If you lived in Portugal, would you go and live in Manchester?

As the questions says, Manchester V’s Portugal?

It would depend on what part of Manchester and obviously what part of Portugal. It would also depend on many other factors. What stage of life I was at, whether work was affected, whether I had children, whether I had any medical issues or elderly family that needed me close. Impossible to answer just from a one liner as I'm sure you know.

I'm in the minority but I'd rather live in Manchester than Portugal. I find learning languages difficult so it would be a daily struggle and I don't like heat. So I wouldn't want to live outside the UK.

You do realise that not everywhere outside of the UK is hot? 🤔

IvorTheEngineDriver · 24/09/2023 10:53

Why not? My Grandad moved from Tuscany to Croydon and never went back.

Yes, are you ignoring the other part I mentioned about languages?

Eyesopenwideawake · 24/09/2023 10:54

I live in Portugal. There is no amount of money that would persuade me to live anywhere in the UK.

Maybe you also don’t realise that many other places use English…

Yes, but I think it would be very rude to move to another country and not try to speak the native language.

@Eyesopenwideawake Which part?

@Eyesopenwideawake Which part?

Nr Tomar in the central region - and you?

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/09/2023 12:15

Would depend where in Portugal. Climate change and its effects would put me off certain regions.

CoffeeCantata · 24/09/2023 15:01

No, certainly not Manchester.

Other cities or locations, maybe.

BennyBlancofromtheBronx · 24/09/2023 15:23

Well, Manchester has a reasonable number of Portugese residents, so some must choose it.

Hilarious. As I said, many other countries use English, and it is the primary language. Have you ever even travelled out of the U.K.?

Not everywhere is hot. Not all countries use another language. 🤣

@MrsSkylerWhite Which parts?

We have friends in Portugal and visit regularly.

I agree the decision would vary based on which part of Portugal and even which part of Manchester. Neither is perfect and neither is awful so there is a lot more detail to weigh in like work, qualifications, ages of you and family if others involved, will you work or retire, etc

Charlattanus23 · 24/09/2023 23:25

Why on earth would you choose Manchester over Portugal? If this is for a bloke, remember how fickle so many are and ask yourself would you rather be heartbroken in Porto or Lisbon or Manchester???

Just the accent will drive you up the wall, not to mention the grotty weather, bloody awful transport, beyond abysmal NHS (oh the stories I could tell you...), aggressive inmates, and the fact it's Andy Burnham's personal fiefdom (and I'm a Labour supporter)!! And yes I'm trying to get out!

TheMurderousGoose · 24/09/2023 23:41

aggressive inmates?

Grin

How am I only just learning that Manchester is in fact one very large open prison?
