...to think Olivia Rodrigo is going to give me a heart attack!!

Posting here for traffic.

DD14 a MASSIVE Olivia Rodrigo fan. Since before everyone had heard of her. Has talked of nothing else for months - the eagerly anticipated new album, pre-ordering the vinyl + merch, learnt how to play and every word to every song in the new album, the tour...she had us all pre-register for tickets the MOMENT the email came out.

But thanks to what is clearly a very good PR firm the whole things gone mad. Demand for tickets is worse than Madonna or Taylor Swift. We got waitlisted for tickets across all ticketmaster accounts, and no doubt those with a pre-code were all ticket touts.

She sat and cried all evening. Not stroppy crying - gazing into the middle distance while tears just rolled down her face. Never seen her so miserable 😢.

Then last night...taken off the waitlist!! Limited availability of tickets, but you could get VIP pit tickets. Cost a FORTUNE but we were like it. Would be amazing to do the whole VIP experience.

DD elated - crying with joy, dancing around the kitchen promising no birthday or Christmas presents were expected this year 😂

THEN we realised you have to be 16 for a standing ticket at the O2. F**K.

Obviously this will have been included in the small print somewhere but every venue we've taken her to - Wembley, Hammersmith Apollo etc only requirement has been about under 14s being with a parent. And it's difficult to read the terms and conditions when you've got a 5min timer counting down your basket checkout!!

Don't know what to do. Do we try and get her in? She looks very old for her age, and will have just turned 15 so not far off - but website suggested they check ID. Imagine getting turned away at the door 😱

VIP tickets can't be cancelled. I daresay we can resell them later and would be happy to just buy more tickets assuming still availability. But strict 4 ticket per household rule with threats everywhere they will be checking and anyone violating will have all tickets cancelled.

Feel sick...HELP!

You might lose money but could you post somewhere (Olivia Rodrigo FB fan page or something?) that you'll do a swap for some "normal" tickets so that she still gets to go?

VIP not transferable...the purchaser has to be present on the day with photo ID

😩

Not sure how they’ll enforce the ID thing as I can’t think of many 16 year-olds who actually have ID? As long as she looks 16 I think she’ll be fine. These things always have age limits but they don’t have time to check every teen girl’s ID at a show full of teen girls. Hope she has an amazing time!! If you end up deciding to swap for seats Twickets are great for reselling and buying tickets as it’s all at face value or less 😊

Weacceptvisaandmastercard · 21/09/2023 08:48

I think you'll be fine. I had something similar at the theatre when I booked tickets for DD and she needed to be 16. Nobody checked at all.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 22/09/2023 12:07

They just opened up my waitlist and I managed to get a standing one. Very happy DD.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 22/09/2023 12:08

Can you log in and get seated as well with your code in case it goes wrong with standing.

TooOrangyForCrows · 22/09/2023 12:21

If they ask for ID just say you forgot it. I doubt they will turn you away.

Crapsummer2023 · 22/09/2023 12:29

I think the marketing teams and venues involved are awful in how they promote pop gigs these days, creating false scarcity, hoop jumping and hype for teenagers.

The woman’s been out 5 mins and only has about 1 album, she’s hardly legend, 90 years old, last chance to see status. It leaves a sour taste.

I refused to get invoked in the Taylor Swift gig bollocks. DD was very understanding.

So the 4 x tickets max was preventing us doing this - any more than 4 per household all tickets would be cancelled 😱

We were hoping to get off the waitlist on one of the other emails addresses and buy some back up tickets.

Even better than this, DDs godmother has managed to get 4x seated tickets for the same night. We can all go together which will be fun in any case as her DD is also Olivia-mad and they will have fun together. But if the worst happens and DD is refused entry we can swap tickets with them (he DC are >16).

Completely agree with you - the hype that has been generated is the work of some very savvy PR people.

What they could have done is pre-released tickets to those that are on her mailing list, pre-ordered the new album etc - those will be the actual fans.

A lot of the people who did get the "magic code" have immediately put them up for resale at £400-500+.

I've just managed to get standing tickets for my 14 year old as well through the waitlist and am now panicking she wont get in! This is for Birmingham - I've looked through all the info and I can't see anything about age limits, where did you see that for the O2?

Tbh, DD is taller than me so hopefully she'll get in anyway. I reallyb hope it's not true, just paid a bloody fortune for these!

Graciebobcat · 22/09/2023 14:20

Normally there is an age limit for them being alone/with mates same age but not with a parent or someone over 18.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 22/09/2023 14:27

@OnlyOneAdda oh that's great news. We went for the Wednesday as thought it would be quieter midweek as gcse time.

Luckily my dd is y12 and mock a level dates were announced last night as the week before so no worries about clashing.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 22/09/2023 14:29

@Crapsummer2023

Musically she is new but she has been on Disney channel for ages so she has a ready made fan base.

It's a specific thing for the O2. It's usually 14+, or must be with an adult etc - this is unusually strict which is why we got caught out.

Looks to me like Birmingham is no worries - under 14 with an adult, and 14+ without.

OP. I just wanted to sympathise.

We got a code for Portugal and I had to wait 4.5hrs for my turn to buy my tickets.

Have also bought two standing tickets for a 15 and 16yr old with no parents. But they look about 21 when in teenage garb!

Who knew buying tix could be so stressful.

It's easier getting West end tickets for big name stars than pop concerts!

allaroundthelamplight · 22/09/2023 14:39

We had this for a different gig and I took younger DD along with older DD's passport 😳older DD was a young child when the photo was taken so it was really hard to tell.

Anyway, they never asked to see ID.

Biscuitsgalore18 · 22/09/2023 14:43

oh no! We are in the same position VIP tickets were all we could get. My daughter will have just turned 15 too… plus, I had to use my mum’s account as it was only her that got a code through O2 priority. I didn’t get selected for any. My Mum is 71 and no way can stand with my daughter all night! I was hoping I could go with her. So now have 2 issues.. getting her in as a 16 year old and me getting in as my 71 year old mum 😫

OnlyOneAdda · 22/09/2023 14:49

Genius allaroundthelamplight! Unfortunately DDs only sibling is her twin sister 😁

We are wondering about something similar...if we can borrow some ID from a friend of Godmother's DD...I figure they look for the ID being fake, look at the DOB, but don't really scrutinise the photo as long as a passing likeness. But hopefully they won't even bother!

I've been to the 02 many times and there are lots of people that attend that are clearly under 16. I personally wouldn't worry.

TheLizardQueen · 22/09/2023 14:59

You will be fine, they never check. I’ve been taking my daughter since she was 14 and she’s never been asked at a 16+ gig. We go to a LOT of gigs.

ClaribelLowLieth · 22/09/2023 15:10

Can you go to another city and stay in a Premier Inn (or whatever)? Make a trip of it?

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 22/09/2023 15:28

I'd be tempted to get a fake ID tbh, just in case. But I've never been to the o2 so take that as you wish!

nickykita · 13/05/2024 10:36

Hi, Did you resolve this...I'm a little late to the party but literally had the exact same experience and we care going tomorrow. I have just read on the tickets NO UNDER 16 for standing and she's just 15! Paid a fortune for VIPand it's tomorrow! Has anyone gone in and had no issues with being asked for ID for the under 16?
