To think that a lot of adults (not kids or teenagers) are spoilt brats now?

I'm talking about fully functioning adults of all ages from twenties to old age, expect the entire universe to conform to what they want? Not need, want.

I'm talking about people citing human rights if they can't drive everywhere, stating that their Christmas is ruined if they can't have real butter in their mash, that they're being attacked if they accidentally learn any non fluffy history about the UK, getting genuinely angry at just the sight of a caravan across the street.

People seem to expect a sort of personalised world, where everything they encounter is exactly the way they would like it. Nothing even slightly disconcerting or uncomfortable, nothing jarring or even unexpected.

It's all so beige, neutral.

I think there have always been entitled sods of all ages and always will be.

madamreign · 17/09/2023 14:39

If you'd have complained about any of that 30 years ago, you'd have been a laughing stock.

I seem to come across more of them, like the woman on my bus to work the other day that was asked to buy a ticket on the bus. She started arguing that public transport in Luxembourg was free so why should she pay, she was only 150m from the border.
The bus driver told her to walk to Luxembourg if she didn’t want to pay but if she was getting on the bus in Germany she had to pay.

Evaka · 17/09/2023 14:43

But they stand out as headbangers. I'd be worried if everyone agreed with precious/entitled/hypersensitive people but they really don't. Think about a sample of people you actually know- colleagues or your extended family or social group. I'll bet most of them are decent and reasonable for the most part? If not, I think you're unlucky rather than typical.

I agree.

I was thinking about this the other day. Can you imagine if the UK went to war. There would be no make do and mend spirit of the previous war generations.

It would be fucking bedlam
(See covid times)

I don't think it's a generational thing- I know plenty of older people who do this.

My husband's parents complain like buggery about their free nhs treatment and they are 88 and 86. It's just people, full stop.

Floogal · 17/09/2023 14:57

Used to see it all the time working in retail. And yes, the kids and teenagers tended to be better behaved overall

madamreign · 17/09/2023 14:59

(I am fairly old btw)

You could turn some of those though. For example parking a camper opposite someone's house and noisily opening the door all day.

mogsrus · 17/09/2023 15:21

Working in amusement arcade & the 3p prize goes down the lose hole. They think they have ploughed boat loads of cash in, they are entitled to it, sorry but your not, if you read the little black sticker on the machine it actually says your gambling,

MattDamon · 17/09/2023 16:16

You see it on here all the time. I thought they were trolls at first, but there are so many of them...

Wiccan · 17/09/2023 16:31

Was actually just discussing this with my DH , why our DD is fucking moaning about everything and I mean every damned little thing ,nothing in the world is good enough . Turned into this precious thing . Came round for a cup of tea and totally harshed our Sunday buzz . DD no offence but FFS just fucking fuck off 🙄

What as apposed to people who...

I'm talking about people citing human rights if they can't drive everywhere,
People who complain cars are all too big SUV`s, that all speed limits shoud be under 30mph, that every one should not be driving cars and taking public transport.

stating that their Christmas is ruined if they can't have real butter in their mash,
Asking for all traditional Christmas celebrations should be changes or rewritten as they are not inclusive enough or offend others?

that they're being attacked if they accidentally learn any non fluffy history about the UK,
Upset that more British people are not apologising for the exact same things every other country and religion and race has done since the dawn of time and that every perceived bad thing the British has done historically should be white washed from history and cancelled.

getting genuinely angry at just the sight of a caravan across the street.
Getting annoyed at locals because they have pride and their areas and don't want them trashing with illegal camping, rubbish left and abuse when they walk their dogs.

Oh yes OP well all get you.

I think your title is wrong and it should actually read "To think that a lot of adults (not kids or teenagers) who disagree with me are spoilt brats as I cannot handle opposing views, WAAA"

😂

You think what I described as reasonable behaviour?

I really have seen a grown man try to cite the human rights act in response to traffic restrictions.

That's normal to you?

Yanbu OP.
What is even more bizarre is how many people get equally upset about made up or exaggerated things that have not and will not ever actually happen.

no there was plenty of bitching in world war 2. propaganda was used to create a sense of unity and purpose. It would be the same now, we have just lived through a multi-generational period of relative peace and prosperity and haven’t needed to rise to the occasion of existential threat

TheFairyCaravan · 17/09/2023 17:54

Last weekend we were waiting to board our plane, to come on holiday, when they discovered a fault. They sourced another plane immediately but said it needed a clean and catering needing loading so we’d have an hour delay. It was little bit inconvenient because we were already at the gate, but there were toilets so it wasn’t the end of the world. But Christ on a bike, people flipped their lids. The children, from tiny babies upwards behaved beautifully, not some of the adults though. I felt so sorry for the staff. It was so out of proportion for what was actually going on.

Calistano · 17/09/2023 18:00

That camper van post was a bit mad tbh. I think home ownership sends some people a bit loopy. I mean that was the very definition of busybody entitled weirdo.

Gladtoblasto · 17/09/2023 18:07

I agree. I think things have gone downhill the past 20 years. Everyone is me, me, me nowadays. I think social media is to blame somewhat.

Calistano · 17/09/2023 18:08

There's a non zero chance that guy has clocked the curtain twitching and does it for fun, people can be petty Grin

Can you imagine the very funny thread about a couple living in a car outside someone's house now? Haha.
