So many aeroplanes in the sky

At once…Is this normal?

I’m not in the U.K., but wanted to see if this was a normal occurrence. Sat on my balcony at maybe 7.45/7 ish this evening and in the sky, so many lights darting across in a line, maybe five or six but pretty close together. Showed Dh and he said it was planes and the trails from them. But I’ve honestly never seen so many at once in the distance at the same time
Is this weird 🤷🏻‍♀️

It depends where you live

comedownwithme · 09/09/2023 22:15

But yes lots of aircraft in the sky is normal

Crazynonenglishsummer · 09/09/2023 22:15

@comedownwithme In what respect?

OP posts:
Wishitsnows · 09/09/2023 22:15

Probably normal if you are near Heathrow

@comedownwithme In what respect?

If you are near a flight path it's normal. If you don't live near a flight path it will be less common to see a lot of aircraft at the same time.

Crazynonenglishsummer · 09/09/2023 22:17

We are close to an airport and I’m used to seeing planes regularly, this was far in the distance but the trail lines seemed so close to one another and so many. Have never ever noticed that before, just odd! The amount of times I sit in that chair looking out at the sky and I’ve never seen that
Oh well 😂

Sunbird24 · 09/09/2023 22:21

It may just be that atmospheric conditions are better for con-trails at the moment, so you’re seeing more of those rather than the number of planes actually being any higher?

VWT5 · 09/09/2023 22:22

Worldwide, currently 14,000 aircraft shown actively transponding….

If you want your mind blown about the number of flights just take a look at the flight tracker app!

Presil · 09/09/2023 22:23

Maybe it's aliens 👽👾

Oysterbabe · 09/09/2023 22:24

I'm not saying it's aliens, but it's aliens.

Crazynonenglishsummer · 09/09/2023 22:26

@Sunbird24 Yes, it must be something like that, so many trails in the sky today, strange I’ve not seen it before though

QueenOfHiraeth · 09/09/2023 22:28

We are not near an airport but near airfields and there has been lots of flying today because of airshows and events

BakedTattie · 09/09/2023 22:29

I suppose, no one can say if it’s normal unless we know what country you are in.

but you live near an airport so I would imagine planes are a pretty regular sight?

blobby10 · 09/09/2023 22:36

I saw more planes overhead today because it was a clear sky rathe then hazy - often hear them (and check flight radar 🙃) but rarely see so many so clearly

StillWantingADog · 09/09/2023 22:39

Use flight radar app to see where they’re going

but sounds normal. Remember you will see more in clear skies!

Hawkins0009 · 09/09/2023 22:41

Presil · 09/09/2023 22:23

Maybe it's aliens 👽👾

Sometimes it could be, these days who knows

megletthesecond · 09/09/2023 22:42

Our sky is packed around 8am with the flights coming in from the States. On a clear day they're everywhere.

Fleur02 · 09/09/2023 22:42

In the respect that there are tens of thousands of commercial flights every day.

How many do you normally get per hour at that time of day, and how many today?

Dibblydoodahdah · 09/09/2023 22:43

I live near to an airport and have been thinking how quiet it is tonight. Only heard one plane all evening despite all the doors and windows being open. I even checked the online departure board at the airport because I though it was so quiet. 😂

Crazynonenglishsummer · 09/09/2023 22:43

People are saying it’s chem trails, are they are real thing though or conspiracy type thinking? I have no idea, it just seemed a lot

OP posts:
Crazynonenglishsummer · 09/09/2023 22:44

A picture by someone else, but they were very much like this, close together, one in one direction, the others in another direction, perhaps five or six around the same time

Sunbird24 · 09/09/2023 22:46

Chem trails are definitely a stupid conspiracy theory! 😂

SnapdragonToadflax · 09/09/2023 22:46

Maybe the atmospheric conditions are conducive to the con trails not disappearing? Usually they're gone quite quickly, but it's very still and humid (here at least). So it might look like more than usual because the evidence is sticking around for longer.
