Shorts at a wedding

Holesinthewalls · 09/09/2023 12:47

Is it OK for a man to wear smart shorts to a wedding evening reception on a hot day? Unsure of the dress code but the venue is at a farm.

No-YABU
Yes-YANBU

Thanks!

Yes I would say tailored shorts with a shirt are fine for an evening guest at a casual wedding.

Thepeopleversuswork · 09/09/2023 12:49

I would say so as long as they are smart.

DilemmaDelilah · 09/09/2023 12:52

I would say no unless the dress code specifically states smart casual

Dolores87 · 09/09/2023 12:57

Yes as long as they are like chino smart styled ones.

thedevilinablackdress · 09/09/2023 12:59

Yes, why should men have to melt in the heat.
And dress code!? Do weddings come with stated dress codes now?
All the unstated 'rules' grind my gears enough as it is!

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 09/09/2023 12:59

only if they are Lederhosen and he wears a feathered cap with them

Cece92 · 09/09/2023 13:00

Definitely my cousin she is 16 and a tomboy she had tailored shorts as it was a mid June wedding and roasting with a blouse shirt. Xx

When I googled the question lots of people said "no unless the dress code says yes". 🤷‍♀️

Would having bare shins really make much of a difference to body temperature?

For an evening invite, where you weren’t wanted at the actual wedding, I’d decline anyway, but yeah, no need to make as much effort with your appearance as a wedding guest.

Blough · 09/09/2023 13:05

There was a thread about this in the last few months, with mixed replies but majority no, if I can remember.

UsernameNotAvailableArghh · 09/09/2023 13:15

Not unless you’re abroad.
I work in this industry and several weddings in this weeks heat, not one person in shorts, not even the kids. Night do, possibly, daytime no.

Ifailed · 09/09/2023 13:19

Whose been invited, the man or the shorts?

MatildaTheCat · 09/09/2023 13:20

I attended a hot beach wedding abroad recently and was really surprised at how few men wore shorts (DH👀). I was really impressed by how almost all of the men were really smartly dressed. For once the women had the easier option of pretty dress and sandals, job done.

However, it would be fine today but I wouldn’t expect it to be the norm.

unbelieveable22 · 09/09/2023 13:22

Shorts at a farm in the evening? Good luck with that 😂

YourNameGoesHere · 09/09/2023 13:23

Honestly I'd say no. It never looks very smart and unless it's a destination beach wedding then I don't think shorts are wedding attire.

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 09/09/2023 13:26

If it was a church wedding I’d say not appropriate but a farm wedding sounds like a pretty relaxed vibe. It depends on the B&G really, are they quite chilled folks or a bit more rigid?

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 09/09/2023 13:27

Who cares what other people thing, he should wear what he’s comfortable in as long as it’s smart, so smart shorts with a shirt and tie, that he can always take off later in the evening. Also a wedding on a farm is likely to be more relaxed than a formal hotel. He’ll probably need a generous spray of bug spray on his legs though 😂.

WellPlaced · 09/09/2023 13:29

Fine but 🦟

Weren’t wanted?

so precious

And have good legs!

Tinybrother · 09/09/2023 13:34

Absolutely fine unless explicitly ruled out

WaltzingWaters · 09/09/2023 13:36

I’d say absolutely fine on a hot day like today provided they’re smart shorts

Blough · 09/09/2023 13:37

@WellPlaced 😄 nah, but I hate going to weddings and will happily decline for the smallest reason. An ‘evening guest’ is someone not liked enough to be a wedding guest by very definition. Obviously.

ThreeLittleDots · 09/09/2023 13:37

I would hope anyone would wear what they are most comfortable in, at my wedding.

Tinybrother · 09/09/2023 13:37

“I work in this industry and several weddings in this weeks heat, not one person in shorts, not even the kids.”

more fool them, children look great in chino shorts, very smart and cute. My 6yo wears them for weddings, however formal
