To think I can lose 2 stone without any loose skin?

I have 2 stone to lose after pregnancy, I won't lie dd is now 3 and I've put this off but with this heat I'm finding myself uncomfortably exposed when I'm used to covering up.
Pretty sure I can lose the initial weight by eating low calorie healthy foods and then finding a healthy lifestyle to maintain, I'm just worried about loose skin as 2 stone doesn't sound a lot but I'm 5"2 and 41. And all belly.

I've put on and lost a similar amount of weight (more actually) and lost it without loose skin afterward, but that was in my 20s/30s, since being in my 40s/50s no such luck, so age really plays a part.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 07/09/2023 14:18

You absolutely can. Lose the weight you want to at a steady pace and it'll be fine.

DNLove · 07/09/2023 14:21

Yes, absolutely. Exercise and diet together. Steady weight loss. Incorporate weights into your exercise.

Tally00 · 07/09/2023 14:22

It doesn't get any easier, if I was better proportioned it wouldn't be so bad but skinny arms and legs, no boobs and a big belly. I do an hour of walking every day just to and from work so I get some exercise which takes me over 10,000 steps.

I’m interested in this too. OP I’m the opposite shape, got a slim tummy (apart from the post pregnancy saggy skin 😩) but large thighs and upper arms. I’d love to slim these down but is there any point if I’m just going to be left with elephant folds…?

Tally00 · 07/09/2023 14:26

That's reassuring, I'll try and aim for a lb or 2 a week and hopefully by next summer I'll be back to my old self.

I'm 5 foot 1 and lost 4 stones two years ago without gaining loose skin (sadly put most of it back on now though)

MissMillyFluff · 07/09/2023 14:27

Sorry, I'm in my 50's.

minipie · 07/09/2023 14:28

How old are you MissMilly please?

minipie · 07/09/2023 14:28

oops cross posted! That’s encouraging

When people get loose skin from weight loss, it’s usually because they’ve lost a lot more than two stone - I lost five stone without any loose skin and the only really significant loose skin issues I’ve seen it’s been on people who have lost amounts greater than I did or have lost weight very, very fast (eg from sudden illness or gastric band surgery).

So please don’t worry, you should definitely be able to lose two stone through normal healthy eating and exercise without getting loose skin. Good luck and hopefully you’ll get some confidence back!

Tally00 · 07/09/2023 14:34

@MissMillyFluff don't give up, if you've done it once you can do it again. I think my problem is I can always start tomorrow but of course tomorrow never comes. I think you need that wake up call and mine is this heat when I look pregnant in anything other than a coat.

I'm 49 and in the process of losing weight. While I still have a couple of stones to go, I have already lost 2 and the skin seems to be shrinking back with me. I think the key might be to do it gradually to give your skin time to adjust and also to try and tone up the muscles simultaneously

LadyBird1973 · 07/09/2023 14:36

If it helps you, there's a low carb bootcamp starting on here on Monday. Maybe have a look at the threads on it and see if you fancy it. It's nice to do this with company

Weefreetiffany · 07/09/2023 14:37

Incorporating some kind of weight training will help. A friend lost 20kgs over 14 months after her baby by doing a YouTube weight training thing, running and watching her diet. Once you’re in the habit and routine of it it become much easier. Good luck!

showmethegin · 07/09/2023 14:39

I lost 4 stone after pregnancy and have no loose skin. I'm also 5"2. Want to lost another stone but I've done it very slow and steady with no crash diets!

mandymion · 07/09/2023 14:39

Doing extended water fasting is good for this because it activates autophagy e.g. recycling of the old tissues (such as loose skin). Google Jason Fung and loose skin or fasting and loose skin for info. You have to do it safely though so be sure to read up about electrolytes etc.

Tally00 · 07/09/2023 14:39

Ooh thanks @LadyBird1973 I'll give it a try

I’ve lost one and a half stone since mid July and don’t have any lose skin. The weight has come off really evenly and I look
a lot prettier now.

Puffwiththegreeneyes · 07/09/2023 14:42

It depends - if you have loose skin due to stretching in pregnancy then it will be more obvious once you've lost weight. But 2stone in itself shouldn't create the loose skin. I've recently lost 3 stone and no additional loose skin (had some due to pregnancy).

EmmaEmerald · 07/09/2023 14:48

MissMilly that's good to know, I've got 3 stone to lose but 4 would be better. I'm 47.

bit worried my face will sink like a souffle too!

hylian · 07/09/2023 14:50

Definitely do it gradually and do weight/ strength training as part of it.

I've lost 2 stone and haven't had any issues at all.

workshy46 · 07/09/2023 14:53

Do the Tracy Anderson ab floor mat workout. Its about 4 minutes but designed to bring the skin back it. Its MUCH harder than it looks and you will need to stop and watch it a few times as she goes quickly but if you do it every day within about 6 weeks you will notice a massive difference. I did it and had serious definition after a month and no loose skin despite having v large babies (but I am thin)

civetcat · 07/09/2023 14:59

I've lost 3 stone in past 18 months on 5:2 and have no loose skin. Am 5'4" and now aged 60.
