To think I can lose 2 stone without any loose skin?

I have 2 stone to lose after pregnancy, I won't lie dd is now 3 and I've put this off but with this heat I'm finding myself uncomfortably exposed when I'm used to covering up.
Pretty sure I can lose the initial weight by eating low calorie healthy foods and then finding a healthy lifestyle to maintain, I'm just worried about loose skin as 2 stone doesn't sound a lot but I'm 5"2 and 41. And all belly.

Yes, you can.

Just adopt a healthy eating plan that is easy to live with and enables about 1lb loss a week.

Andrea87 · 07/09/2023 15:30

How can I join the low carb boot camp on here? Sounds like a great idea.
Thanks

Tally00 · 07/09/2023 15:38

@civetcat well done, how easy was it to get used to?

@workshy46 could you share the link please?

mummabubs · 07/09/2023 16:50

I am essentially the same as you! I've left it til my daughter turned 2.5 to face the idea of trying to lose the 1.5 stone that I gained during pregnancy and never lost!

Personally I've found Noom great, I'm 9 weeks in and have lost a stone, they only recommend losing 1-2lb a week so it's low and slow. It also focuses a lot on habit changes and thinking about your relationship with food, so I'm feeling much more confident that at the end I won't just regain it all. I've also done no formal exercise, just moving more and aiming for 10,000 steps a day. (Sometimes I get there, mostly I'm around the 7-8000 mark, but it's been enough for me to keep gradually losing weight). Good luck on your journey!

TempName247 · 07/09/2023 17:11

I think it’s genetic as well as to how elastic your skin is

RandomMess · 07/09/2023 17:15

The only loose skin I have is from the 10lb 6oz baby I had when I'm only 5' 😭

Losing the 2 stone never causes issues anywhere.

Bubbles254 · 07/09/2023 17:20

I lost 11kg over 6 months with no loose skin including 6" on my waist. I started strength training towards the end of the 6 months and feel everything feels harder as a result although it is still early days and little muscle definition yet. Lower belly is the last area to slim down and I still have a small amount of fat there.

I’m interested in this too. OP I’m the opposite shape, got a slim tummy (apart from the post pregnancy saggy skin 😩) but large thighs and upper arms. I’d love to slim these down but is there any point if I’m just going to be left with elephant folds…?

I've lost 11 St and although I have a very loose belly, my legs and arms are alright. I was not expecting that!

changlinggranny · 07/09/2023 18:42

I'm 66, I've lost 9 stone since February last year and my skin isn't hanging in folds. It seems to be shrinking at the same pace as the rest of me. A bit wattley under the chin, but that's pretty normal for women my age, and it certainly isn't any worse now than it was last this time last year.

A friend who has had gastric band surgery says her surgeon told her she would need corrective surgery to remove excess skin once she had lost the weight. I wish she had tried semaglutide before surgery, and also that she should wait a couple of years to see if the "loose skin" tightens up without further surgical intervention.

LadyBird1973 · 08/09/2023 08:37

@Andrea87 if you go into the weight loss topic there is a thread there on signing up for the Bootcamp, so you can be added to the spreadsheet, and another thread there on how to prepare. That one explains all the reasoning for it and the rules.

addictedtotheflats · 08/09/2023 08:43

Definitely. I put on 4stone in pregnancy, 3 of which was probably actual fat weight, lost 2 of it and the only part of me with lose ish skin is my upper arms

Redavocadoes · 08/09/2023 08:49

To add to what others have said, you may get some sag as the fat reduces BUT I looked into this before and if "you can pinch more than an inch" of the saggy bit, that means it is still fat in there to lose, it's not just skin. It's just that the fat is packed less densely.

It's not a pleasant stage, but keep going and do weights, drink plenty of water and it should pass.

If you lose the weight now you have a decent chance of not being left with loose skin. If you wait 5-10 years it will become a lot harder.

Good luck!

fruitnutz · 08/09/2023 08:55

Two pounds max. Anymore and you do risk loose skin. Recommendation is half a pound to a pound a week for best results. Slow and steady. Cut daily calories by 300-500 or exercise more.

Sugarcoatt · 08/09/2023 08:56

Loose skin won’t be cause by losing 2st. You may have it from pregnancy though.

MissMogwai · 08/09/2023 09:05

I'm 44 and have lost just over 2 stone in the last 12 months.

It's been a slow and steady process but I've done that through walking, swimming 3/4 times a week and diet, and don't have any loose skin.

fruitnutz · 08/09/2023 09:08

True, two stone is nothing but speed and genetics can influence things. I lost a stone rapidly after losing my appetite with a bad flu and I have loose skin on my upper arms now. Slow and steady is best.

Snowpaw · 08/09/2023 09:11

I don't weigh myself so I don't know the numbers, but I have dropped a dress size from 16 to 14 over the last 6 months and have lost several inches off my waist. I've been weight training twice a week for an hour, cutting out most forms of sugar, just eating small portions of carbohydrates with increased protein and veg / fruit / nuts. My aim is size 12 by Christmas. I haven't noticed any loose skin, though the stretched area on my lower stomach will never go back to what it was, but I'm fine with that as its covered by clothes most of the time and the rest of my skin looks good. I think the key is including exercise as part of your routine and aiming for slow steady weight loss. Whatever you do, it has to be manageable and something you can stick to, week in week out. Consistency of effort is the key. No fad diets.

minipie · 08/09/2023 11:09

I'm 66, I've lost 9 stone since February last year

Wow!!

OneTwoThreeShake · 08/09/2023 13:02

Yes you can. Core strength exercises like lifting weights will help.

Siwggy · 08/09/2023 14:24

I'm in my 40's and 5'4 in height. Over the years I've yo-yo'd considerably. Put on loads of weight between being married and having my first child. Weighed 15st at my heaviest (I think - I stopped weighing myself after that). Lost 4st slowly over a period of years, then became pregnant with my second. Put a bit back on but I was very careful not to put too much on. I've since gone on to lose a further 3.5st.

I now have so much loose skin it would require multiple surgeries to remove. I need a 360 tummy tuck / body lift, breast lift (with implants if I want the fullness back), arm and thigh lift (I'd love these but don't want the scars, so just deal with the loose wobbly skin) and could also do with a back lift tbh but I'm not too bothered about that. I'd love to get the tummy tuck / body lift one day, but it's super expensive and sadly I I just can't afford it at the moment.

Overall from my heaviest I've lost 6.8st. I now weigh 8.2st and while I look pretty good fully clothed, I hate the way I look undressed. I will not wear shorts, I don't own a swimsuit, and dislike wearing sleeveless / strappy tops that show my wobbly arms.

civetcat · 08/09/2023 18:34

@Tally00 Took me about a month to get used to it. I felt rubbish and tired in the first week and not much better in the second. I found it helpful and motivating to look at forums, especially when weight plateaus. Best things about it – you only think about weight loss/eating two days a week, you don't have to cut out certain foods/drinks (eg alcohol/chocolate) and it's really easy to fit in around social commitments/going out etc. I've stopped it for about 8 weeks in total when I've been on holiday. Best of luck!

Andrea87 · 09/09/2023 15:52

@LadyBird1973 thank you very much that’s great 😃

Loopytiles · 09/09/2023 15:54

Lost 1.5 stone and it left baggy skin on stomach, for which I blame the DC!

hellohellothere · 01/11/2023 10:46

I recently lost almost 2 stone and no loose skin. It's not a huge amount so I can't imagine why it would create loose skin, unless you lost it very quickly.
