To wonder if mums of BF toddlers could make ice lollies out of breast milk, in this weather?

Just that, really - keep them cool, feed them, give them something to do, get yourself five grab-free minutes to fan yourself …

I thought this was standard, one aways done it from 5 months ish, once older you can add fruit purée to it too.

I did this for DD. She loved them in the hot weather. Nuby do an ice pop tray thats perfect for making them.

I had a ring pops set that I used to make mini breast milk lollies for when DC1 was teething.

I bf my kids for years but it's a no from me, I think it sounds weird. What's wrong with just giving a fruit juice lolly (not one of the added sugar ones necessarily)?

But you know, whatever floats your boat. If your kids enjoy it, great.

this. Toddlers should be eating far more than breast milk so why bother? It seems try hard…. Sorry.

I agree that it sounds weird.

I breastfed my child until they were 2.5. If they're young enough that they're exclusively breast fed then a supplementary breast milk ice lolly is really not necessary.

Mine did at that age, it was great for teething and keeping them cool. Would you want to drink warm milk in hot weather?

Like a PP, if I could be arsed to pump, then yeah I probably would do this. We just do Greek yoghurt & fruit.

Did this with both mine and so did all the summer BFers I knew. They also help relieve teething pain. Mine were only 5/6mo their first summers and we started weaning solely on veg and savoury food, so didn't want to do fruit juice lollies at that stage.

It's definitely try hard I agree.

If exclusively breast fed there's no need to make it into ice lollies.

If toddlers, who are still breast fed but not exclusively, then it is not necessary to have an ice lolly using breast milk.

I did this when mine were teething, it really helped.

As for it being "try hard" Confused well, yes, I did try quite hard to alleviate teething pain and uncomfortable overheating when my kids were little. Shoot me.

There are other healthier options as alternative to fruit juice. I was part of an extended breastfeeding group (some up to six years) and nobody froze their breast milk into ice lollies or pops for five month olds +.

There are other alternatives to soothe teething pain. All of us have also been through teething with our children too, just to inform you. Funny that. @Greensleeves

Just give a normal lolly. Who can be arsed to faff around expressing and freezing into moulds etc. when they're able to eat normal food?

If they're a toddler you can just give them cow's milk ice lollies or yoghurt ones, can't you? That's what I do in the summer, that way you don't have to mess around pumping or carefully labelling.

Just seems like overkill for a toddler. Why go to the hassle of pumping and making your own lollies when there are lots of other alternatives? It's not like when people do it for younger babies who aren't really taking water yet.

And yet nobody has felt the need to call you names for whatever measures you took, have they? A mum using a common infant food item which she has in abundant supply and which her child already associates with nutrition and comfort is "try hard". Bonkers.

Breastfed 3 kids, never once had the urge to pump breast milk never mind turn it into ice lollies. If it helps though then crack on!
