To be a smidge uncomfortable with hotel bathroom set up?

Am away on a short break going to a few Nice Hotels.

Tonight's offering is a new concept in establishments apparently 🙄.

It's rather lovely BUT the set up is rather jolly odd.

The bathroom only has a shower and loo in it. The sink is outside in the lobby area leading to the bedroom..

I'm quite boggled by this, and tbh quite uncomfortable but can't work out why I am.

I'm with DH, we've been together many years and done All The Things together but I do prefer private ablutions really. Though we don't have a door on our en suite at home (previous owner's design) and I know that'd cause the heaving conniptions to most mumsnetters. Just mentioning this to show I'm not normally that pernickety.

Yabu: get on with it - tis fine.

Yanbu: agreed, very odd, discombobulating set up.

ALSO!

No kettle!

A hot water tap down the corridor - no dishevelled morning coffee, will have to sanitise myself for public consumption before I can have a beverage. How unnatural.

My objection would be having to open the door with dirty hands.

You not having a door on the bathroom at home would be a hell no from me.

ItsNotRocketSalad · 27/08/2023 19:05

How can you care so much about private ablutions that you don't want to wash your hands in front of him, but at home you shit in a toilet with no door?

BilliesEyelashes · 27/08/2023 19:06

Yup I mentioned to DH about unclean hands on the knob. 😬

I see the confusion but I cannot remember ever having to go to the loo properly in that room when DH is in bedroom or vice versa. Well trained bowels it appears. 😂

Doesn't seem to be attaching the posts I'm replying to.

Sigh.

It’s just the sink so I wouldn’t have a problem with that at all. What’s embarrassing about brushing your teeth or washing your hands in front of your partner?

NeedTheSeaside · 27/08/2023 19:13

I went away with one of my adult god daughters, the en suite was GLASS, admittedly sandblasted, not totally clear, but still it was uncomfortable.

Iheartmysmart · 27/08/2023 19:14

Could be worse, I stayed at a hotel with a relatively new partner and the bath, shower and sink were all in the bedroom! Fortunately the loo was in a cubicle 😂

QuestionableMouse · 27/08/2023 19:16

This is why I like a Premier Inn! No bathroom weirdness!

isthismylifenow · 27/08/2023 19:16

Maybe it's just a thing in Nice.

modgepodge · 27/08/2023 19:17

I stayed in France in a place a few years back with no separate room for the toilet or shower, it was just round a corner slightly from the bedroom. I was not happy!!!!!

Yes went away - luckily with DH and not a girlfriend- shower, bath and sink and toilet all in a glass cube compartment within room and completely see through.

LadyAstor · 27/08/2023 19:18

I stayed in a hotel in Switzerland once and the en-suite had a door made out of clear glass.

Stayed in another in Malta which had frosted glass saloon doors on the bathroom - a foot gap at top & bottom! 😳

Stayed in another hotel in Gran Canaria with an en-suite with no door (OP would love it but I was 😯)

Apart from the semi-transparent doors.

samuelclemens · 27/08/2023 19:23

I had to google ablution 😂

I don’t really understand OP, washing face and brushing teeth in front of the person you have married seems a non-issue to me.

I have stayed in a couple of London hotels with the frosted-yet-transparent bathrooms in the room and that’s awkward! Luckily with DH but would feel really uncomfortable with a friend or other family member. When did it become a thing I hate it!

harriethoyle · 27/08/2023 19:23

My mind is boggled by what you're doing in or with the sink that you don't want to do it in front of your DH when you are happy with a doorless en suite?!

NotMadeOfStone · 27/08/2023 19:25

We went to a hotel where the shower and loo were in the centre of the room, barely shielded by about 3 inches of room divider.

Let me tell you, it did not divide me from the smell of DH's shit.

Also had a room in Greece where one wall of the apartment was all glass, with flats opposite - and an all glass shower which all the neighbours could look right in to!

BrioNotBiro · 27/08/2023 19:25

I stayed in a hotel in France that one entered from the hotel corridor straight into the bathroom (so if your partner was on the loo/in the bath, someone passing could see them).

The wardrobe was also there, so all one's clothes got damp, and it was really dark (just as well with the potential for flashing).

DixonD · 27/08/2023 19:20

Apart from the semi-transparent doors.

Regular premier inn seem to have normal doors. I stayed in one of their ‘hub’ hotels that has the semi-transparent frosted glass going on. Similar to a lot of ‘minimalist’ style hotels that seem to be about in London.

BruceAndNosh · 27/08/2023 19:28

Loo and bath or shower in room with vanity sink outside is quite common in older USA hotels and motels. And recent houses.
I don't want my DH to see me plucking my chin hairs in front of the mirror,

Userengage · 27/08/2023 19:29

I stayed in a hotel in Paris with a new boyfriend with a glass door on the en suite. Made him go down to the bar when I needed a poo.

DarkPsy · 27/08/2023 19:33

I stayed in a hotel in Belgium where the room was sort of divided by an alcove, with the toilet on the left and the shower on the right. If you were on the right side of the bed you had a clear view of the person sitting on the toilet 😳 Who the hell would enjoy that set up?

Mamette · 27/08/2023 19:33

At least it’s the basin in the corridor and not the loo.

user1497787065 · 27/08/2023 19:37

Surely that’s better than a Premier Inn with the pokey bathroom arrangement with only a shower over the bath and so small you can see, clean your teeth and shower at the same time
