To be a smidge uncomfortable with hotel bathroom set up?

Am away on a short break going to a few Nice Hotels.

Tonight's offering is a new concept in establishments apparently 🙄.

It's rather lovely BUT the set up is rather jolly odd.

The bathroom only has a shower and loo in it. The sink is outside in the lobby area leading to the bedroom..

I'm quite boggled by this, and tbh quite uncomfortable but can't work out why I am.

I'm with DH, we've been together many years and done All The Things together but I do prefer private ablutions really. Though we don't have a door on our en suite at home (previous owner's design) and I know that'd cause the heaving conniptions to most mumsnetters. Just mentioning this to show I'm not normally that pernickety.

Yabu: get on with it - tis fine.

Yanbu: agreed, very odd, discombobulating set up.

Some Disney hotels have this- actually a massive double sink with a a privacy curtain, plus a tiny room with bath and loo.

I was unable to be bothered as there was five of us squished in the room with zero privacy anyway Grin

Kpo58 · 27/08/2023 19:40

I wouldn't be happy either. What if you were sharing the hotel room with a work colleague instead of your partner? I wouldn't want to wash in front of them.

I went away with one of my adult god daughters, the en suite was GLASS, admittedly sandblasted, not totally clear, but still it was uncomfortable.

I’ve been in one of those. All style over substance. I didn’t like it. I think it was The Sanderson which is a pricey, modern hotel but I wasn’t impressed with having a glass bathroom in the bedroom.

Mamette · 27/08/2023 19:43

What are people doing at the basin apart from washing their hands and brushing their teeth?

Are you all washing your bits at the basin? Please clarify.

"Am away on a short break going to a few Nice Hotels"

Sorry...is this as in, "naice hotels", or are you in Nice, France?! I only ask because it's quite common in France to have the loo in a separate room from the sink!

I don’t think having a sink outside the toilet area is great if you’ve had a poo. Who wants to be opening doors after that before washing your hands? Does not seem hygienic to me.

Yes of course but that not what I’m questioning.

It’s the people saying this would make them feel a lack of privacy or they wouldn’t want to wash in front of the other person in the room… wash what!

Ah, ok. My only issue would be the hygiene of hand washing. I wouldn’t be concerned about brushing my teeth in front of someone or washing my face.

PatriciaHolm · 27/08/2023 19:58

They have that set up at Molly's - there are 3 in the UK now. I quite like it as I can brush my teeth/do makeup etc whilst the person I'm with is in the bathroom!

AHobbyaweek · 27/08/2023 19:59

Citizen M?

PatriciaHolm · 27/08/2023 19:59

oh and they have the no kettle/hot tap thing too! Took me ages to work it out first time.

Takes away the reliance that other people are washing their hands though. If you've washed your hands then have to touch the potentially shitty doorknob then you're in an unknown state of shit particled.

However if the sink is outside then you wash after touching the doorknob, it makes more sense tbh

WillowCraft · 27/08/2023 20:05

So the toilet and shower are in an en suite bathroom but the sink is in the corridor outside the bedroom? That's v weird

Carpediem15 · 27/08/2023 20:12

BilliesEyelashes · 27/08/2023 19:02

ALSO!

No kettle!

A hot water tap down the corridor - no dishevelled morning coffee, will have to sanitise myself for public consumption before I can have a beverage. How unnatural.

We have stayed in lots of hotels in France and Spain and there has not been a kettle, not the norm especially in Spain unless it is a "Brits" hotel on the coast. When we first lived in Spain we couldn't buy a kettle in the shops and was told to use a pan to boil the water.

No, but it's like almost all public toilets, where you leave the cubicle and then wash your hands.

Prescottdanni123 · 27/08/2023 20:20

When they renovated my senior school, they had the cubicles inside the toilet block like normal but the sinks in the corridor outside. Bizarre. And awkward. You'd be standing at the sink washing your hands, aware that everyone walking past knows where you've just been

Maybe it's just a thing in Nice.

👌😂

katepilar · 27/08/2023 20:23

I am with you OP, I prefere to have privacy too.

Tequilamockinbird · 27/08/2023 20:28

YABU to even consider using a hotel room kettle 🤢

BaronessBomburst · 27/08/2023 20:29

All of you who had clear glass bathroom walls, are you sure that there wasn't a switch to frost it? When you switch it on a current runs through the glass and it turns opaque. I've stayed in a few hotels like that.

BilliesEyelashes · 27/08/2023 20:30

I didn't dare use Naice!
