I'm so bored. What can I play or do on my phone?

I have cancer, having chemo, been in & out of hospital. At home for now and feeling well enough to hold my phone for once, but not much else. Finding it too hard to read a book (chemo brain, exhaustion) and can't really watch TV/movies because I have two small children and while DH is looking after them, I need to keep an ear out. I've spent many hours today scrolling Mumsnet and I have a couple of merge type games that I've been playing, but I'm soooo bored. Any recommendations for games or apps that are good for easy mindless scrolling/tapping??

What about listening to comedy podcasts/shows? I do this when I don't want to follow a long story thread.

I've already downloaded lots of these suggestions and several looking promising, so thank you all very much! And sympathies to anyone who knows how it feels!

Woodoku and Spider Solitaire are good

mumda · 26/08/2023 19:19

Number match.
Just pairing numbers or making 10.
It's very addictive but simple.

Maybethisisit · 26/08/2023 19:19

I see a few have already mentioned woody puzzle, I love that one.
I also play onnect, you have to match pictures with no more than 3 lines, I’ve been playing it for years, doesn’t cost anything but there is a short ad after each level and is my ultimate favourite
monopoly go is a new one I’ve been playing for the past few weeks, you do have to wait for dice rolls to renew but there are challenges on it all the time. Me and dp both play and are always swapping card collections etc

Look up Suguru on the web.

It's similar to sudoku but in my opinion, far better.

Summerisnearlyhere1 · 26/08/2023 19:20

Diggys adventures- hard to explain but ur in say a boat, you have to click tiles to remove them, and solve simple puzzles. I like the way it's a story.

Simpsons tapped out- buy houses n shops by getting the characters to do tasks.

Pipers pet cafe- cos I like cats and dogs

Merge mansion

Oysterbabe · 26/08/2023 19:23

I like tap away.

Oysterbabe · 26/08/2023 19:24

Number match is good too.

Holdontowhat · 26/08/2023 19:26

I spend hours scrolling different subs on reddit and going down various rabbit holes. Sending you positive vibes and hope you find something interesting to take your mind off things

Twilight7777 · 26/08/2023 19:27

I play merge dragons, Triple match (match up things that you find), mahjong, and the love island game when it’s available. Also do loads of code words but on paper cos it’s less easy to cheat lol.

Ponderingwindow · 26/08/2023 19:29

Do you have access to Apple Arcade? Since you normally like crosswords and such, I’m going to recommend the games I like for slowing down.

tint - it’s a watercolor mixing puzzle. Just a bit of a challenge, but most levels aren’t too hard.

Assemble - it’s a story where you go through and help people by repairing small objects.

grindstone - it’s a game where you have to strategize to kill monsters, but there is no speed rush. It’s a grid board and you just methodically work through the steps. You chart a path through a color. It’s just kind of silly.

Gliomes · 26/08/2023 19:35

Flow Water. Nicely designed levels and very satisfying.

There are superficially similar ones like Water Flow but they tend to be more handle turny.

Yes I have Apple Arcade and particularly like games from there as no ads!

Play Return to Monkey Island from the app store. X

JollyJolene · 26/08/2023 19:42

Fishdom and Royal Match are the ones I lose hours on.
I hope the chemo fog clears soon for you.

We've been having fun with this one recently: https://neal.fun/password-game/ Increasingly complex rules about a password. Exasperating and fun.

I play the free games on New York Times website - spelling bee, the mini crossword, connections and sometimes tiles

Wordle

Quordle

Frozen Frenzy Mania

Jewel Mania

Tetris

Brick Breaker

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/08/2023 20:58

Chronophoto

The website can be a bit glitchy, but I find it fascinating. It shows you a photo, and you you have to guess when I was taken since 1900.

GlitterNails · 26/08/2023 21:04

I have three I'm playing now:

Gardenscape
Homescape

Both these have limits so it's good to swap between them. You play puzzles to build up a house/garden and do little tasks.

EMOP - Emergency Operator - very mindless but addictive. Really like this one.

Gerrataere · 26/08/2023 21:11

Wordscape is a brilliant anagram/crossword game, it’s got over 6000 levels.

if you like puzzle games, there’s ones by a app company called Fire Maple. Brilliant little find items/solve the story gaming. Or you can get some of the Broken Sword games - they’re full blown story adventure puzzle games that used to be on PC.

A bit more immersive - you can buy the old Final Fantasy games on phones and tablets now. Take up quite a lot of memory but I highly recommend Final Fantasy IX if you want a great adventure game to get into. It can take anywhere between 50-100 hours to complete (or the phone versions also has a way to cheat through to make it quicker).

DebussytoaDiscoBeat · 26/08/2023 21:14

I like Empires and Puzzles, the game itself is fun and there are alliances you can join which often have lively lighthearted chat. I have made some real life (albeit long distance) friends through it.

Wishing you better health soon.
