To consider buying 3½ yo DD a dog bed for her to play in?

She loves the soft and fluffy dog beds and will spend ages playing in her cousin's actual dog bed. Would I be U to just buy her one from a pet shop for home as a kid of cosy nest/den thing??

Seems a bit odd. Could you not buy her a cosy beanbag or chair instead?

FusionChefGeoff · 26/08/2023 15:39

I think that's a lovely idea if you've got room. You could add a tipi thing too either now or later

Not unreasonable at all, nice soft place to sit! Just like a beanbag. My toddler loves a dog bed too.

And I think @FusionChefGeoff ’s idea of adding a teepee is lovely too.

Bbq1 · 26/08/2023 15:41

Or a pop up tent /teepee as a den. Could make it cosy with fluffy blankets and cushions and it will last her a few years.

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 26/08/2023 15:41

Anything to encourage imaginative play and keep kids away from screens is a winner with me! Our dog sadly passed away but we still have the plastic shell of the bed and have bought a new fluffy liner so the kids can play dogs. They have a lot of fun with it.

Ihateslugs · 26/08/2023 15:43

Yes I would! I’d love to be small enough to cuddle up in one! Pop a couple of soft cushions in and a blanket - I bet she’ll be in it for hours.

You can always donate it to a dog charity when she gets fed up with it or use it to store soft toys.

LittleMonks11 · 26/08/2023 15:43

Never mind your DD I want an adult size one!

Trenchfootinthescottishhighlandstoday · 26/08/2023 15:44

As a crawling dc our ds use to go 'missing'.. He would be found asleep in ddog bed. With ddog. Having one to himself would have been meaningless but if your dd would like one why the heck not?

PurpleBananaSmoothie · 26/08/2023 15:44

You shouldn’t be letting her get into an actual dog bed that a dog is using. That is a dog’s safe space and a place to avoid toddlers when they become too much. So as long as you teach her to only go in her dog bed and not actual dog beds.

redrighthand83 · 26/08/2023 15:51

I would, why not? DD loves to lay in her nest from when she was a baby! Every time I try and get rid of it she suddenly cant not lay in it....

IkeaMeatballGravy · 26/08/2023 15:54

They had a massive dog bed at my DCs nursery, the kids loved it, they used to grab a book and snuggle up in it.

MargaretThursday · 26/08/2023 15:57

Ds would have loved that at that age.

He was once given a small amount of money to spend and knew exactly what he wanted-he bought himself a dog's bowl to eat breakfast from. I did draw the line at putting it on the floor. Grin
If he's had enough money for a dog's bed, he'd probably have done that-and wanted to sleep in it.

LakeTiticaca · 26/08/2023 16:21

Why not?.as long as some busybody doesn't get wind of it and report to social services that you make your child sleep in a dog bed 😉

Starrynightsandpixiedust · 26/08/2023 16:27

It's a great idea, a cosy place to snuggle and I love @FusionChefGeoff idea of adding a teepee

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 26/08/2023 16:38

We have a teepee!

The dog has a day bed and a night bed. She plays in the night bed, dog can escape and hide from people in his day bed :)

Brilliant idea.

Wish I'd had one as a child. And even now...

primoseyellow · 26/08/2023 16:41

@AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps that's actually a really good idea! Ive just bought my dog a lovely bed, which cost 90.00 and she has sat in it twice so far and only because I told her to🙄

Singleandproud · 26/08/2023 16:42

I bought DD one, we turned an old built in cupboard into a reading nook and found a dog bed that was the exact dimensions and the higher back and sides were perfect too.

Clefable · 26/08/2023 16:42

Not quite the same but we have a play sofa which gets SO much use. It's a Zonky and it's played with every single day by both DDs.

Spidey66 · 26/08/2023 16:44

Why not? Many dog beds look more comfy than human beds!

DwightShrute · 26/08/2023 16:44

I would, I'd love this but have no room 😆

AuroraForever · 26/08/2023 16:44

You can buy human pet beds. Google it. They’re big and look so comfy! I’d get her one of those rather than something that’s obviously for a dog and tell her you found it in a pet shop.

CurlewKate · 26/08/2023 16:48

I think it's a brilliant idea! I've seen grown up sized ones and I really want one!
