No to a girls day out - update

A few weeks ago I asked for your advice regarding a holiday with DH family (children & spouses, 2 adult grandchildren & boyfriends, and 3 toddler grandchildren). I was asked to join the step DIL & GDs on a wine tasting day out, with the caveat that I drive.

well ladies, I took your advice, and I said yes I’d join them but that I didn’t wish to drive as I too, would like to sample the wines so I wouldn’t drink & drive as French law is severe (€1000 fine, confiscation of license and/or overnight in jail).

The result was . . . no girls day out as they only invited me to chauffeur them. My gut instinct was that this would be the case and so it turned out to be.

Thank you ladies, your advice was invaluable. And I’d add, always trust your gut instinct!!

Ah, that's a shame.

BellaJuno · 22/08/2023 21:40

Oh that’s a shame but well done on sticking up for yourself. What did they say when you said you wouldn’t drive?

poulderi · 22/08/2023 21:41

that sucks im sorry, you deserve so much better.

stayathomer · 22/08/2023 21:43

Did they not go because they had nobody to drive as opposed to not having you iykwim? So they may have wanted you there but also needed a driver? It sounds weird I know but could be the case! (But didn’t read the other thread!)

I didn't read the other thread. Why couldn't one of the other adults (male) who aren't going on girls day out drive?

Do you have a link to the other thread?

Well done, op. I had a feeling this would be the case when I read your original post. How did the rest of the holiday go?

AnaJane1 · 22/08/2023 22:36

Put it this way, I don’t think we’ll do a holiday with the family again!

Erm, good, you'd have spent the say being staff for them. Well done.

AnaJane1 · 22/08/2023 23:40

“Forget it then!” was the response.
I felt both relief and disappointment that that was all they thought of me.
oh well . . .

Car would only fit the five of us in, 1 DSD, 1 DSDIL, 2 GDs.
