Girls day out

Looking for advice - if the ladies in your family group have suddenly invited you to join them on a girls day out, bearing in mind you’re the only one with a car, and they’ve pointedly ignored you previously, how would you respond?

Ignore them right back.

Say I'm busy that day.

If it's the kind of 'girls day out' that involved drinking, I wouldn't be taking my car anyway, so whether or not I have one is irrelevant.

If it's not a drinking event, I'd decide how much I wanted to go and whether or not I would want to drive before agreeing to join them.

Maybe say you'd be interested so long as you can join them after dropping your car off for servicing....

I only like to go out with people who I feel want me around and not just because I'm part of the family or out of obligation.

Newtrix · 20/07/2023 15:25

I'd feel used in that case. I love a girls day out with my mum & sisters but we take turns driving.

NoSunNoSun · 20/07/2023 15:29

If you fancied going then go but don’t drive. If you did want to go then you could reply sounds good and it’s right near x train station or something like that.

AnaJane1 · 21/07/2023 08:45

I have a hard time being rude, so I’d feel uncomfortable ignoring them.

I want to avoid a sour atmosphere but equally I don’t want to feel used by them.

Either say yes, but no car or Just tell them you are busy. Practice saying no in front of the mirror. It sounds as if you need some assertiveness training.
