Mainstream women's shoes only going up to a size 8

And even then its not always a 42!

Took ds school shoe shopping today and while I was in and out of the various shoe shops, I had a quick look in the women's sections.

I am a 9, but a 43 9. Sometimes a 10. Not a single shoe was bigger than an 8.

Now, luckily I know where I can buy shoes that fit, but I was thinking about this, and isn't it ridiculous?

So, I'm wondering how many women here have feet larger than an 8? I mean, I imagine there aren't tens of thousands of us, but there just be enough to warrant shops selling 9s and 10s?

Absolutely not helpful but just to illustrate the attitude to larger feet, I am a size 8 but went up half a size after each pregnancy and spent a good few years as a size 9. I went to a v. posh Country Living Show in London with my mum, and said to her in a crowd of people 'I just want to look at those shoes as they go up to a size 10.' 2 women in front of us looked at each other wide eyed, pulled a horrified face and burst out laughing and I've been self conscious about my feet ever since. It's not fair as I'm 5ft 9 and would topple over in a strong wind if they were much smaller. Just because I have big feet it does not mean I don't like pretty shoes FFS! Anyway, my go to is Fairfax and Favour as they have size 9 shoes to die for!

Omg. Years ago I commented on a business fb post asking if they stocked their nice winter boots in a 10. I got a PM from a man (of course) saying, 'size 10?? Wow you have big feet'.

I used to be self conscious about it, but now I'm the opposite. I stare men down who comment on my foot size and have even told a man he has small feet for a man (after telling me my feet were bigger than his).

I'm 6 feet tall, wtf size feet do you expect me to have?

I’m a 9 sometimes a 10 - i mostly wear my sons cast off trainers

i get work shoes from long tall sally, they are a bit hit and miss though. I miss saxone!!

I have found my people…. Size 9/43 here and fresh from throwing a wobbly in a shoe shop a fortnight ago when I was desperately looking for some nice sandals to buy to take on holiday. Also needed trainers and ended up with men’s sketchers.

It has been this way since I was 16. I honestly thought by now that shoe manufacturers would have caught up with the times.

I’m saving this thread so when I have a chance I can scroll back through and make a note of all the big shoe companies people have mentioned on here!

Maybe we should start a support group…

Honestly @PoppityBoo try TKMaxx for trainers next time. There were a few 'women's' sketchers in stock in size 9 and I once bought a pair of hot pink adidas ones in size 10!

I’m a size 3 and often stuck buying childrens shoes. Them being VAT free is a small consolation prize.

I'm a size 2 but have feet that are too wide for children's shoes (and need more support than they seem to have). It's the worst of both worlds!

AlwaysFreezing · 11/08/2023 11:26

Yeah, I understand the whole shops don't want to carry any stock, hence the death of the high street.

But online is so hit and miss!

My DD 14 is 6'. With size 10 feet. Her school shoes, trainers, & converse are all mens. Plus she has DMs. She doesn't like skirts or dresses so these are OK, for now. But she is starting to get much more into clothes & I have no idea where I will find her pretty shoes. Many of the places who do larger sizes don't have shoes teenage girls would like. And we have to buy online because she, understandably, does not want to be in the men's section trying on shoes.
My feet are 8 or 8.5 & they can be difficult to get sometimes, especially 8.5.

Chypre · 11/08/2023 11:49

Mainstream women's shoes also rarely go to true size 3 or lower - if winter boots or trainers can be sorted out with a thick sock, its not the same with sandals. Kinda tired of shopping JUNIOR (kids....) lines, I want proper tarty adult heels :(

ChristAndHisBike · 11/08/2023 12:02

@HelpIcantfindaname Koi go up to a 12, so there maybe some there that she likes.

Ihateboris · 11/08/2023 12:04

Me!! I absolutely hate shoe shopping as I'm a 42/9. My mum is a size 😁 and often has the same problem 😕

DoormatBob · 11/08/2023 12:09

DW is a 9 but seemingly has no problems finding new shoes (every week)!

I get all my trainers from the kids section.

But there are many, many, many women's shoes in a 3 Confused

I'm a 3-4.

Awful! I went to Go Outdoors for some walking boots and they recommend to go a size up. Bit difficult when they only go up to a size 8 in womens and I am an 8. Mens are too wide for me.

It's awful. Such a pain in the arse, they are making it hard for me to spend my money with them!

TheEverdelightfulsamantha · 11/08/2023 12:20

I have found my people! Size 10 here / 44 - mostly shop at Magnus, and occasionally find the brands Magnus stock cheaper on Amazon. However - a word of warning - I posted on a women’s big feet Facebook group and got inundated with pretty graphic messages from foot fetishists - but at least I know if things are tough I can get paid to let someone lick my feet 😝🤪😂🤣🤮🤢😵‍💫

TheEverdelightfulsamantha · 11/08/2023 12:22

And it just totally sucks that none caters for us - I just want nice normal shoes that don’t cost a fortune! Loads of shops in Soho that sell PVC thigh boots and the like in size 10 and above - but they aren’t quite right for a quick trip to Tescos 😂

Thanks for the moral support, NOT! Many of us on here have spent years being told we have "fucking massive" feet and we don't need you saying it too. Plus, as can clearly been seen from this thread, there are many many women and girls with size 9+ feet. People are getting bigger and taller, and us bigfoots are not the freaks you seem to think.

(Although my DSis did used to enjoy going into shoe shops muttering "Mutant feet coming in, beware the mutant feet").

namechangenacy · 11/08/2023 12:38

@SheRaaaaa who hurt you that made you that insecure you had to come on a post and make a nasty comment like that ?

🙄

Size 9 is pretty big for womens feet. I doubt the store sell many hence not stocking them as they won’t sale them.

My feet are a 7 and I was always told I had big feet.

Size 9 maybe at the larger end of women's feet size, but it is not uncommon for women to have size 9 feet, especially as we are apparently growing taller. Those sizes sell out really quickly in shoe shops an are not replaced. It's even harder to get size 10-12 women's shoes.

The real problem is that the people who own these shops think that the only womens who are allowed pretty shoes are the tiny women who look cute. The rest of us have to wear blokes shoes or pay the £100+ for a pair of normal womens shoes.

Yes I am bitter about this

Leopardchange · 11/08/2023 12:50

My friend's dad used to call me boat feet
The shops have conspired to make me feel unfeminine even though my feet are long and slim and attractive. I don't have fat calves, wide feet shoes or especially boots in plus size shops don't work.

HelpIcantfindaname · 11/08/2023 12:53

@ChristAndHisBike

I'll have a look.
Thank you.

@TheEverdelightfulsamantha , Crocs are popular in my local supermarket.

6 isn't massive, FFS. The average woman in the UK is a 5.5.
