Unusual discharge, early pregnancy. To worry?

Hi everyone,
I posted this in the pregnancy section but I don't think many saw it so posting here for more traffic. Sorry!

I'm 5 + 4 weeks and for over a week I've been having strange discharge. Sorry if TMI but at my wits end and looking for some wisdom and experiences.

Basically it's only on wiping and having only very mild period type pains now and again. None today, some that lasted about half an hour yesterday morning. Like that, very sporadic but mild pain.

The usual spotting seems to be brown and stringy but on occasion I'm seeing very very light pink too. That's less of a mucous and more liquidy. Very very light though and only on wiping.

Has anyone experienced this and been ok? For full disclosure I was having investigations done for irregular bleeding before my bfp and this was diagnosed as cervical erosion and spotted by the gp during a physical exam. Could this be the cause? I know epu won't entertain me so early but I feel so terribly anxious.

I had this at 5 and 6 weeks and was all good! Are you on progesterone pessaries by any chance?

Worrywortlady · 30/07/2023 16:03

@readingismycardio thanks for the reassurance! Not on anything at all. Is it something I should be asking about?

I would! I am on progesterone pessaries, but I don't live on the UK, I understand is not easy to get them in the UK. Best of luck, OP'

I'll call the GP tomorrow to ask. Thanks for the advice!

I had similar and was totally fine. I contacted EPU via nhs24 and they reassured me. It also happened approx 4 weeks later and they were able to do an early scan which showed no issues.
Unsure what caused it tbh but it was good to get some reassurance. Currently 31 weeks.
I would contact EPU and see what they say rather than worry yourself.

BusyMum47 · 30/07/2023 16:58

Possible implantation bleeding & cramping from everything expanding. I had similar with my son. Panicked as I'd previously miscarried which started similarly but all was fine - he's now a disgustingly fit & healthy 6ft 16yr old!
Give your GP a call for reassurance. Hope all is OK for you. X

Minimochi · 30/07/2023 17:07

Contact your EPU...check whether they do self-referrals or whether you need to go through your GP. They can check and then at least monitor you. It might turn out to be nothing.
I had an ectopic pregnancy with only very light spotting at a similar stage. I'm prone to those and classed as high risk, though, and have always been monitored by the EPU (when we were still back in the UK) and now by my gynaecologist as soon as I get a positive result.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you that it's nothing, though. 😊

Call EPU or midwifes direct if you can, not GP, GPs can be pretty useless in early pregnancy.

They will either be able to reassure or arrange a scan (although don't be surprised if asked to wait to scan until you're a bit further along).

nimski · 30/07/2023 18:20

Sounds pretty normal to me but speak to GP or midwife for reassurance

Worrywortlady · 31/07/2023 12:57

Thanks everyone, turned red today. Still only when wiping but feel something isn't right. Trying to get through to the epu...

@Worrywortlady sorry to hear that. You can also try 111 but they are likely to say GP during opening hours.

Mangotango39 · 31/07/2023 13:10

Yep every colour discharge under the sun. And light pink spotting since implantation . some brown.

Now 11+3 and two healthy scans so far. EPU couldn't find any reason for bleeds etc and swabs have been fine. Just said it's something some woman experience.

Mangotango39 · 31/07/2023 13:11

Sorry just seen your discharge. Have had some red once. Hopefully all ok for you 🙏

Mangotango39 · 31/07/2023 13:11

Your update not discharge * god I'm tired

TheKeatingFive · 31/07/2023 13:13

I had this, it was absolutely fine. I think it can be caused by sharp increases in hormones. But do get it checked if you can.

Worrywortlady · 31/07/2023 13:21

Thank everyone, can't get a scan until Wednesday. Glad they're going to see me but the wait will kill me. No pain and it's just very very small amounts but the change in colour has really worried me.

Glad you've got a scan. Fingers crossed it will be ok.

Worrywortlady · 31/07/2023 16:22

Will post an update once I know. Thanks for the support and advice, early pregnancy is such a strange and lonely time. Too early to tell anyone in real life but it's the time we worry lots and could do with the help!

JenWillsiam · 31/07/2023 16:28

Good luck on Wednesday. Be prepared to have to return.

Worrywortlady · 02/08/2023 13:09

Just an update for anyone interested. Had a scan today and baby measures as expected and sonographer saw a heartbeat. Can't believe it! She saw an area of haematomas which she said is likely causing the bleeding but didn't seem concerned. What a relief!

Mangotango39 · 02/08/2023 13:46

That's fab!!! Great news x

Un7breakable · 02/08/2023 13:55

Great news and really good to see a heartbeat this early

Worrywortlady · 02/08/2023 14:49

Aw thank you! So relieved, still spotting but now we know the possible cause I feel a little less anxious about it. Don't think I'll relax again until next March and little one has safely arrived!

Another update, this morning had a really heavy bleed. Came out of nowhere and was doubled over in pain. Waiting at the epu for them to confirm the worst but I already know our journey this time is over. Can't believe it after such positive news a few days ago.
