Currently waiting for my app for a lump Iv found in my armpit. I’m hoping it’s nothing but still slightly worried as anyone would be.

Does anyone who knows the process know how long it takes to get the results after the ultrasound?

Im hoping instantly but I’m guessing not.

I've just found this helpful video, in case there's anyone waiting for their appointment.

It's exactly as PPs have described, but seeing the mammogram machine was very helpful for me (though I've no idea how they'll fit my fried-eggs in there!).

@SpiderVsBee Aww thanks that's helpful! I am breastfeeding at the moment but not sure that has been communicated between GP and clinic. I've read it is harder to scan and less likely to get a clear result. I'm going to take my pump with me and hopefully be able to pump enough beforehand to make it less painful and remove as much milk as possible to give a clearer picture. Praying they don't say they can't do it when I arrive as I just want it over with and hopefully so I can stop worrying.

Here’s the time line of my cancer journey, I’m 39 and found a lump in late January this year, I’ve just completed my final chemotherapy today

27th Jan - doctors with lump
8th Feb - biopsy/ultrasound/exam
16th Feb - confirmed cancer
21st Feb - pre-op
10th march - lumpectomy surgery
27th April first (of 6 three weekly) chemo
14th August final chemo

Still to complete:
Radiotherapy
Months ovary suppression injections

Liellacat · 15/08/2023 09:40

really happy to hear it was just a cyst op! Are you having it out?

I had my app and my results were inconclusive. They found at least four tumours and I’ve had biopsies on one of them and a metal marker. I’m back in tomorrow for further scans and more biopsies on the one that’s different than the rest. Im hoping they are fibroadenomas. I get my first set of biopsy results tomorrow

it just shows how different peoples experiences are with breast lumps but the service of the staff in the breast teams seems outstanding throughout

Thanks for asking.

It was a cyst! They told me straight away so it was such a relief!

So happy to hear this! 🙂

Years ago I went to the One Stop Shop at Barts, the first doctor I saw said “ oh, cyst” stuck a needle in and drained it, which made it a bit tricky for the next two on the rotation who had nothing to look at !

That’s a real roller coaster of a time line. Congrats for getting through the chemo and best wishes for the next stage of your treatment.

Is anyone else waiting for their appointment?

Mine is this Wednesday. I've been ok so far but the worry is really ramping up now.

Good luck!
I won’t say try not to worry as it’s impossible. I was lucky that I was abroad while waiting with my kids so they kept me distracted. Sleep was probably the hardest. I tossed and turned.

Ok, some freak-out questions:

Did you go by yourself? DH needs to stay home with the kids. I'll be going by myself.
What if it's bad news. I'll be texting DH all through it anyway, he'll be worrying. I don't want to tell him bad news while he's home with the kids. But he'll worry if I do t confirm all ok. Obviously.

If you get bad news is it worse after? Or better now that you know? How long does it take to find out just how bad it is?

I went on my own as DH had work and kids went to their nans.

how did it go?

It was just a cyst 😅
I went by myself, and I did keep DH updated.

It was helpful that the first doc who had a feel (and the student) said he thought it would be a cyst. The radiographer was incredible and put me right at ease.

Obviously logically I knew it was likely going to be fine but I had a lot of low worry which I started to struggle to keep a lid on as the appointment got closer.

Ztha · 09/12/2023 23:03

Hope u r doing well now
All the best wishes for u.
Can u tell me was u diagnosed on ultrasound? How did ur lump left? I felt some thickening but when I had ultrasound dr doing the sca. Said it is glandular tissue. I am not convinced and worried that she has missed something?
Can u let me know how did urs lump felt? And is ultrasound a proper test to diagnose it? I am 38
Thanks

Lavenderhaze93 · 09/12/2023 23:12

Hi lovely,

I had this last week. The ultrasound results were instant and no further action was needed.

Context: I'd gone the GP about an unrelated issue and they found a lump!

Ztha · 22/12/2023 22:14

Hi
Can anyone tell me if radiologist doing the ultrasound r sure shy they see on ultrasound ? They fold me after my ultrasound that its fibroadenoma. How sure will thry be ? Can u share ur thoughts? They said they will book me a biopsy as I am insisting to be 100 percent.

OneInEight · 27/12/2023 05:43

I don't know the percentages. All I can tell you is that when my biopsy came back negative they were so certain from the ultrasound it was cancer that they had another go (which was positive). So, yes, I think the imaging gives a pretty clear indication of whether there is something suspicious going on or not.

Kimmeridge · 27/12/2023 05:46

@Ztha you'd be better posting your own thread.
