Currently waiting for my app for a lump Iv found in my armpit. I’m hoping it’s nothing but still slightly worried as anyone would be.

Does anyone who knows the process know how long it takes to get the results after the ultrasound?

Im hoping instantly but I’m guessing not.

Good Luck OP
Kent based here.
I saw my GP for pain in my breasts initially, they found a lump, I was referred to the two week wait clinic.
When I was there it took about 3 hours.
Had a conversation with a doctor.
Doctor examined me physically, then did an ultrasound, had me sign the consent form and they cut the lump out and sent it for analysis.

They placed a titanium clip into where they took the lump from so it would show up on future mammograms. Put a plaster over the incision and told no heavy lifting for 2 weeks.
I was then given information leaflets and went home.
After two weeks was able to ring up and find out my results.
Good luck and hopefully it's nothing 💐

Mine was also a one stop shop. I had found a lump just before Xmas. Went to the doctor who said he was referred. 7 long weeks later (still angry about that). I went for the appointment. Saw the oncologist who examined me. Send me downstairs for a mammogram and an ultrasound. I knew by the way they were acting during the tests that there was something wrong although they didn’t say anything. Went back up to the the oncologist who told me there and then that it was suspected cancer, unfortunately I found out a few weeks later that it had already progressed to stage 4 so although treatable it was incurable. 5 1/2 years on, I’m still on regular treatment. Recently started oral chemo after the cancer spread to the liver. Although I’m having to attend hospital every 3 weeks, I’m still keeping reasonably ok and working full time as well as doing most of what I was doing pre diagnosis

What a terrible wait!
Glad to hear you are doing well Year later.

I'm late twenties, also close family history of BC and I've had 3 mammograms now. All with results in the same day and all nothing to worry about. You'll feel better when you know- either way. Fingers crossed you get the all clear x

I've also had a 2w referral a few years ago for unexplained breast pain. I had a scan, saw someone and had another scan because the first wasn't clear, saw a doc again and was told all was clear all in a few hours. NHS in this instance was bloody wonderful. I hope you get the same speedy turnaround

Wowokthanks · 28/07/2023 13:38

I had a 2ww referral about 2 years ago.
Like many others, one stop shop. I was examined, consultant thought there was nothing concerning, went straight to ultrasound, found to be a cyst which was explained to me, they showed me what they saw in the appearance and movement through the US.

All was well, I hope its the same for you.

Just because it may bring you some relief- have you had an injection in the arm that you have the lump under recently? Any vaccine can make the localised lymph nodes increase in size temporarily. I was told this when my gp initially thought it could be a vaccine reaction

Fizzyfish67 · 28/07/2023 13:44

I was also seen within 2 weeks. One stop shop here, seen by surgeon, sent for ultrasound and mammogram and given results there and then.

2bazookas · 28/07/2023 13:45

One stop shop in Glasgow too. Mammogram, ultrasound, needle biopsy, consult with DR.

Tapasgoofy · 28/07/2023 14:19

Thanks everyone. Seems like it’s a ultra speedy process. Really pleased to hear that.

I was told moveable smooth lumps are more likely to be nothing to worry about (however I've also had an ultrasound on hard lumps on my neck that were fine too.)

It's really hard not to spiral to worst case scenario but statistically the breast clinic see about 90% benign conditions and of the 10% that need attention the vast majority are treatable. Hope you are able to enjoy your holiday.

ConfessionsOfAMumDramaQueen · 28/07/2023 21:43

I had a breast mouse (bengin). I got an appointment quickly, one stop shop at hospital. Had the ultrasound, got results there and then. Decided to take it out rather than biopsy, operation was booked that appointment for a week later. It was taken out, got pathology confirming nothing concerning within a week of it being taken out.

Flippingflamingo · 28/07/2023 21:49

I was referred for a lump a few months ago. Took 10 days for the appointment.

First a consultant examined me and had a good feel around.

Then I had an ultrasound. I was told there and then by the ultrasound technician that it was nothing to worry about.

BashfulClam · 28/07/2023 21:57

Had consultation, taken for mammogram, had ultrasound where she told me it was a cyst and drained it. Back to doctor to discuss. All done and dusted and home for lunchtime.

Purplefoxes · 02/08/2023 17:24

Mines on 17th August OP so wishing you very best of luck with yours and following with interest. I'm 39, currently breastfeeding and my right breast has a red scaly rash, sort of peau d'orange appearance and a lump at the top. Quite scared, thought I was protected whilst breastfeeding but clearly not as have since googled! Here's hoping it's good news for us and the other lady on the thread waiting for her scan.

peskykiddds · 02/08/2023 17:42

Depends on area. I was referred, saw a surgeon who checked me over and sent me for an ultrasound, the person who did that didn't tell me anything, I went back a week later for the results. My mum had the same (different area) - not a one stop shop and can take a week or two for results. I'm 3.5 years out from diagnosis, finished treatment last year, doing well. It's more often than not, not BC. But well done for getting checked. Fingers crossed for you op.

peskykiddds · 02/08/2023 17:42

(I was 35 and pregnant)

Fidgety31 · 02/08/2023 17:52

I had a two week referral . I had a physical examination by two female staff . They felt lumps . Then I had an ultrasound which showed cysts that were then drained . There was also a large lump which the dr said looked like cancer .
I had a mammogram same day and a biopsy .
two weeks later results were inconclusive so I had to have a more invasive suction biopsy under a mammogram .
Another two week wait for results and it was a benign tumour - still in there , alongside a titanium clip .
I’ll never go back to the drs for a lump again … I spent four weeks thinking I had cancer . Dr should’ve kept their mouth shut until the actual biopsy results were in !!

Merapi · 02/08/2023 18:00

Perhaps it varies by area, but I was recalled, saw the consultant who explained what they'd found, more mammograms, ultrasound and a biopsy all on the one afternoon, and they rang me with the results (good news) 48 hours later.

peskykiddds · 11/08/2023 10:04

How're you doing op?

I got my results as the doctor was doing the ultrascan.

Nat6999 · 11/08/2023 18:41

*ultrasound

Confusedmeanderings · 11/08/2023 18:57

One stop shop in Somerset too. I had the mammogram and then the ultrasound where the nurse said she was sorry but it looked like cancer. I was then asked to wait to see a doctor to talk about the results. I knew when they didn't take me back to the waiting room but took me to a little side room instead all painted in calming pastel colours and with pictures of nature on the walls. The box of tissues was a bit of a give away too! The doctor said that it would need to be confirmed with the results of the biopsy they had done, but that they were very sure that it was.
I hope that it turns out not to be for you, but can I say that if it is breast cancer, you will cope. It's ok. The treatment is tough but it's manageable and the medical team around you will make sure that you are alright. Feel free to message if you want to ask any questions or want any advice.

Just want to say @Tapasgoofy thats amazing news, I'm so happy for you! The waiting is awful isn't it? Your life literally flashes before you and all the things you wish you had done and what the future could hold. Hoping and praying I get the same positive news next week. 🤞

SpiderVsBee · 13/08/2023 16:38

I've just found this helpful video, in case there's anyone waiting for their appointment.

It's exactly as PPs have described, but seeing the mammogram machine was very helpful for me (though I've no idea how they'll fit my fried-eggs in there!).
