Heartbreaking.

Doyoumind · 24/07/2023 22:49

I don't get your point.

whatkatydid2013 · 24/07/2023 22:52

The story is awful. I’m not sure what you mean either though.

IslaSkywalker · 24/07/2023 22:59

I mean people who make excuses for taking drugs and think it's ok and often turn a blind eye to the hell behind it all.

OP posts:
Thatswhatitis · 24/07/2023 23:01

It’s probably because there are quite a lot of apologists for drug use on MN, people thinking it’s just a bit of weed and making out people are uptight if they don’t like it.

Drugs are illegal it’s criminal activity and anyone taking anything illegal someone somewhere down the line has suffered. County lines, kids groomed, prostitution and weapons. Gangs tend to run it so you are possibly supporting all or some of that.

PurpleButterflyWings · 24/07/2023 23:13

You mean 'apologists for drug use...' ?

Yes I absolutely agree. People really piss me off (I see some on here,) with the way they brag about how they used to snort cocaine and have joint with a glass (or 5) of wine! (When they were a bit younger apparently... Hmm...) And the way they act like they were real cool girls and they were better than other people who didn't do it ... (because they were just too uptight!) This really pisses me off!

Smoking a joint is a slippery slope, and the tip of the iceberg - and anyone that does it is an absolute fuckwit, and I have no respect for them and would seriously give them a wide berth. If they think there is anything remotely cool or okay or good about smoking spliffs/snorting cocaine etc, (or anything stronger,) they can get in the fucking bin.

These types are usually the same ones who brag about fucking multiples dozens of men and having orgies etc, as they think it makes them come across as 'edgy' and 'cool.' It doesn't. I would say what they DO come across as but my comment will be deleted!

What a sad heartbreaking story ... anybody that thinks taking drugs is okay - as I said, needs to get in the bin!

IslaSkywalker · 24/07/2023 23:23

I walked past a community centre today that has a gym inside and other events. It's a converted Methodist church. Three guys hanging about outside on the doorstep clearly belonging to the place rather than clients. The smell of weed was horrendous and a couple walking alongside me remarked on it too.

Great advert for community.

Well exactly! There's a couple of people about quarter of a mile down the road from me who smoke pot. You can smell it coming out of the house ... Where do you even get it from ??? I genuinely hand on heart wouldn't even know where to start if I wanted pot. I wouldn't know where to get it and I don't bloody want to know.

You've only got to look at the state of those people on the article to know what drugs does to you ... why would you even start?

Hufflepods · 25/07/2023 10:08

I think this says more about the effectiveness of the war on drugs than anything else.

Oversharingnamechanged · 25/07/2023 10:28

Trauma is a gateway drug for many, myself included.

I grew up being abused by my father, his friend, watching my mother almost die at his hands.
I've been raped, more than once.
I've had DV relationships myself as it was my normal.

Drugs gave me something that I needed, oblivion. I'm completely sober now, but it took along time to get here.

A man (undercover ex cop) Neil Woods has the right idea, watch him on YouTube or read his book.
Drugs are going nowhere, the way we eliminate drug crime is to legalise drug's.

Typical MN hysteria.

There are undesirable elements all across society. Not everyone involved in the drugs trade are murdering psychos. Many people in the UK grow their own and sell it. They aren't monsters looking to get your kids hooked.

I grow my own and use it myself. Am I monster? Why the fuck should I be "chucked in the bin" over a lifestyle choice that's nothing to do with anyone else?

Blinkingbonkers · 25/07/2023 10:31

I’ve seen threads on here where ops are trying to point out that the middle class desire for coke causes abuse & violence to teens caught up in County Lines etc - they deny all accountability, cause their habit apparently only affects them and is ‘totally normal’🤦🏼‍♀️….

I agree something drastic needs to be done regarding hard drugs. But demonising recreational or habitual soft drug users is just wrong. The people, including myself, that i mentioned in my post are doing very little harm to society as opposed to alcohol. many of those who demonise those type of users are the same ones reaching for the vino several nights a week! Pp said a spliff Is the start of a slippery slope. That's utter nonsense.

Capitulatingpanda · 25/07/2023 10:41

It's horrible. I'm not at all against drug use as a blanket thing I think it's down to individual circumstances but I do think you should ideally grow or pick your own or source legally (assuming you can afford the extortionate clinic fees Confused).

Exactly this. Some people are utterly UTTERLY deluded. It's actually desperately worrying that some people normalise this hideous fashion of smoking/taking recreational drugs and make out it's normal.. duh, people dwink booze ya know duuuh. Fuck me sideways! Hmm

An as for ... 'I only grow my own and use it myself - I'm not doing any harm.. nobody's going to be influenced by me .. it's not going to have any effect on my children or anybody around me ...la la la !!' Hmm Completely fucking deluded and desperately sad and really really really fucking worrying ...

I cannot believe people actually delude themselves in this fashion ... No wonder this country is going to shit.

PurpleButterflyWings · 25/07/2023 10:51

Yes I get that some people take drugs/do drugs/smoke weed, due to a bad/traumatic upbringing, but many MANY people take them coz they think it's cool and 'edgy.'

Grow up FFS.

Lauryn95 · 25/07/2023 10:53

I think if we're talking about people that have chose to self medicate then you've no business to judge as you've no idea what led them to that in the first place ,I know a girl who smoked weed because she was anorexic due to being prescribed amphetamines for years to the point where her body was so used to starving herself her appetite physically completely disappeared so when she got to a dangerous weight decided to smoke weed she got a cannacard though which is where legally youre aloud ,its a grey area but certain people are aloud it even though its illegal ,to be able to eat and now she's perfectly healthy and not smoking weed however those idiots that get a bag of Coke purely for recreational use and brag about it need to grow TF up ,I have taken drugs as a teenager as most people have and when I see grown adults even mothers sniffing cocaine in the pubs, ew it's gross ,Like I literally worked in a nightclub and would see mums from my kids schools off their face on ketamime and that's so cringe to me ,Nobody could ever justify to me doing drugs for a bit of fun! I go to music festivals because I love drum and bass and that kinda scene but never felt the need to take a pill first or anything stupid like that ,I'll stick to a couple bevs if you can't enjoy your night without taking Coke or ket or anything then you either need a better hobby or better mates

MissTrip82 · 25/07/2023 10:53

I would have thought the argument should be around decriminalization. There’s some very interesting history about decision to criminalize some drugs and allow/promote others……none of it evidence-based,

This would also mean treating drug addiction as what it is - a medical problem, not a judicial one.

But if the reality of the drug trade horrifies you it’s probably best you never find out how the smartphone you’re using - or a vast number of other products in your home - was made.

smilesup · 25/07/2023 10:55

People are always going to take drugs.

The only way to stop the cunts who run the drug gangs is by legalising it all. It would have to be done carefully but could be funded through the millions raised in taxes. Drugs would be clean, dosed safely, provided with clean equipment, linked to support for coming off and taken away from the criminal gangs.

Government is too scared to do it as it is a vote loser.

PurpleButterflyWings · 25/07/2023 10:56

I'm hiding this thread. It's giving me the fucking rage.

Capitulatingpanda · 25/07/2023 10:56

@PurpleButterflyWings
Why is it so much worse growing my own (not planning on until kids leave home) and me going to Sapphire or similar clinic and getting a prescription? If I had £100s+ a month of magic money I would go private but I doubt many people have that luxury.

Interesting take. So because smartphones are manufactured in a particular way and we're not horrified by that we're by definition not allowed to be appalled by the drug trade?

I'm not sure your comment even counts as logical, frankly.

Annaishere · 25/07/2023 11:00

There can be a blurred line between “drugs” and medicine
