To wonder what happened to programs like Most Haunted?

We were watching an old Most Haunted last night (on YouTube) and it made me realise that programs like this are a thing of the past.

The excitement on “most haunted are live tonight!” Etc … all gone. What killed them?

I did think maybe YouTube killed them as content creators these days can produce just as good content as these massive corporations but these shows died before the rise of YouTube.

So what happened to them?

They were very samey. How many years can you have grainy, green-lit rooms and a load of people shrieking and running around a building? There was a US version a couple of years ago, can’t remember what it was called though.

Scariest places on earth? I loved that show!

I agree they were grainy and a bit silly but they could have modernised as the years went on … I find myself watching YouTube more than actual TV these days and the guys I watch has a slither of the budget these proper tv companies have

Ghost Hunters, Paranormal Lockdown, Ghost Adventures, Kindred Spirit and Dead Files just some of many American versions. Loads more on the Travel Channel my son loves them.

The fakery got really cringy at the end.

My favourite episode was when Richard Felix (I think) spent ages 'communicating' with an air conditioning unit.

But we all know it’s fake (well I’d hope we do!) but it was entertaining none the less. I love dark history and that’s the main reason I watched it but the paranormal element was a fun bonus

Derek Acora(sp?) was outed as being a fake if I remember right? Didn’t someone trip him up with some info once?

I always liked the history part best too. Ghost Adventures used to be good at that.

Dh and I once went on a ghost walk in York with Richard Felix. It was so interesting to watch people get themselves in a tizzy and convince themselves they were seeing ghosts all over the place.

I used to watch Most Haunted a lot with my family. Derek Acora was funny, but he really did make it look like a load of bollocks and it was really. A fart was turned into paranormal activity. The paranormal psychologist looked like he was despairing on the inside. I do have fond memories of watching with my family though. I'm still not sure paranormal stuff doesn't exist due to my own experiences, but Most Haunted didn't convince me at all.

Most haunted are still on YouTube and have a theatre show next year I think?

If you like this stuff try Danny Robbins (creator of theatre show 2:22 a ghost story which is brilliant too!) and the podcast Uncanny along with Battersea poltergeist and the witch farm all a good listen gave us the same vibes as most haunted back in the day much more what could this be let's look at everything rather than its definitely a ghost/deamon blah blah!

Cerian O'keith is one of the skeptics too it was he who exposed Acorah!

I think they just fell out of fashion, very few things are popular long-term and so they no longer get made.

There’s some great paranormal investigation channels on YouTube, some obviously fake and others much more genuine (because nothing happens very often).

I was explaining to my child that you used to have to mail in your funny videos for them to be shown on television and now they’re just everywhere on the internet.

Ghost Theory are my favourite! These types of videos do not scare me but there is one of them in a house where they hear these really loud footsteps that was terrifying!

Also recommend Ouija Brothers, iConjure, Ghosts on Trent for more honest investigations. Not saying the following are dishonest but they are American creators and so more dramatic! I like Charm City Paranormal, The Haunted Side, Paranormal Files and Twin Paranormal.

I watch all with a healthy skepticism but enjoy the content.

Watch DMAX on Thursday and Sunday night and Really Channel on Friday and Saturday night. They don’t show Most Haunted but do show similar programmes.

They were on shit channels that no one watches because everyone watches everything on demand?
There’s something nostalgic about lying on the sofa surfing through the shit channels and landing on Most Haunted 😄 probably the morning after the night before too
