Girlfriend annoyed at me in a restaurant

Went for an all you can eat Chinese buffet. We agreed to order things and share them. She ordered us duck and got some ribs too, I ordered a sharing platter.

She got really annoyed at this because it turns out she didn’t like anything on the sharing platter, and said I should “know her better”. I knew she didn’t like a few things, but thought she might like to try some of the things. She got really annoyed, saying I “didn’t think about her” and only ordered for myself.
I can’t understand why she got upset seeing as it’s an all you can eat. She’s still a bit annoyed at me.

Am I wrong here?

No you are not. She sounds childish.

TerfTalking · 21/07/2023 22:52

Bit ita all you can eat, go back and get
something else

pictoosh · 21/07/2023 22:53

No ffs you're not. She sounds inflexible and selfish though.

StephanieSuperpowers · 21/07/2023 22:53

Who cares what anyone orders at an all you can eat place? It makes no difference! You can have whatever you want! Isn't that the point? But I'm intrigued that you ordered stuff you know she doesn't like thinking she might like yo try it. Why would you think that?

Notimeforaname · 21/07/2023 22:55

She is being unreasonable and acting like a child

Summer2424 · 21/07/2023 22:59

Hi @mrbigcheese aww bless, not nice to be on the receiving end but she might have had a long day, was hungry and just snapped at you. Don't think too much into it.

AngryGreasedSantaCatcus · 21/07/2023 23:04

She sounds like a PITA. It's an all you can eat. You can always go and get something else/more of the things you like. If she's fussy(I am) she should've made sure she picked things she liked in a sufficient quantity.

Hawkins0001 · 21/07/2023 23:07

Why didn't you both order ?

MrsClatterbuck · 21/07/2023 23:12

Don't understand this. At any Chinese buffet I have been to you just take a plate and help yourself. the clue is in the name No ordering except for drinks.

There are some table order ones. Better food imo!

Screamingabdabz · 21/07/2023 23:13

Why would you ‘share’ at an all you eat? This makes no sense!

AutumnCrow · 21/07/2023 23:14

Did she not understand the concept?

Jongleterre · 21/07/2023 23:20

Girlfriend - 'You order, darling'

Also Girlfriend - 'I don't like it!'

Solution - order your own fucking food.

CC4712 · 21/07/2023 23:25

I can only assume you haven't been dating very long? Less than a year? Sounds very odd to order like this in an all you can eat and your girlfriend is childish.

To have a smaller amount of various things. Otherwise you could be too full to try everything you want to.

Daphnis156 · 21/07/2023 23:27

What a princess.
Get rid of her.

Boomboom22 · 21/07/2023 23:28

Was it a buffet or a restaurant where any dish you don't eat like 90% of they charge you for?

Rewis · 21/07/2023 23:31

Well, you agreed to share and knew she didn't like what you ordered? Didn't you talk what you were ordering? I have to say I kinda agree with her and you shouldn't be sharing if you have different tastes

SingingNettles · 21/07/2023 23:35

It does strike me that this could have been avoided by discussing your order before placing it, if the plan was to share, but that’s on both of you so yes, she’s being unreasonable.

Ywudu · 21/07/2023 23:36

Did you eat all the food? She may be unhappy if lots of food was wasted because you'd ordered a large sharing platter and had no one to share it with.

fpurplea · 21/07/2023 23:53

Yeah OP, this was your bad. If you've agreed to share food you get stuff you both want to eat, surely this is just base level social norms? Aside from anything, didn't you discuss this prior to ordering? If she'd said she wanted to try stuff fair enough, but it very much sounds like you just made that decision yourself. There should always be a discussion before sharing. This whole situation just sounds bizarre.

EmeraldFox · 21/07/2023 23:59

Dud you eat the food OP? I wouldn't want to eat out with someone who wasted food.

Chinese buffets are very, very different to an all you can eat Chinese restaurant where you order off the menu.

Bit like saying why would you wait for someone to bring your £25 gourmet handmade burger and hand cut chips to the table in a gastropub, because at McDonald's you can just pick it up from the counter!

Chinese buffets are cheap, junky fast food, an all you can eat restaurant is (in this area) about £30+ per head (plus drinks) and a fairly standard restaurant experience. Very different beasts.

Are you being sarcastic? Or genuinely excusing bad behaviour because it was a woman ? If a woman had posted saying her boyfriend had snapped, would you have defended him too?

Presumably if it’s all you can eat, then you can go and get more stuff you like?
