To think eating someone else’s birthday present isn’t ok?

I think OH has been a bit mean here but prepared to hear that I’ve overreacted.

DS had a birthday this week. Both DS and OH love ice cream, so OH bought DS a tub of ice cream as a present.

DS is now on holiday with his dad for 2 weeks, and so OH has opened the ice cream, will eat it and then replace it.

I wouldn’t dream of doing that as it seems wrong to eat someone else’s present even if it would get replaced, but AIBU or am I justified to feel pissed off on behalf of DS?

I thought you were going to say something a bit more exotic, but ice-cream, that he's going to replace - YABU

TwinsPlusAnotherOne · 21/07/2023 22:25

So DS will have no idea it's a replaced tub.

Really. This is what you're concerned about?

IAmAnIdiot123 · 21/07/2023 22:26

If it's getting replaced like for like before your son gets home, I really don't understand the aggro. Yabu

WeWereInParis · 21/07/2023 22:27

Provided your OH can be relied upon to replace it before your son gets back, I don't see an issue with this at all.

Coolhwip · 21/07/2023 22:27

Good grief, get a grip.

Sounds like it’s you and DS against the poor man.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/07/2023 22:28

As long as it's fully replaced this is nothing

I remember a thread were the other half had scoffed all of the children's chocolate that wasn't replaceable due to it being from a tourist place, THAT'S bad behaviour!

Merryoldgoat · 21/07/2023 22:28

If it’s actually replaced before he gets back I can’t get worked up about this.

TotalllyTireddd · 21/07/2023 22:28

Ever heard the expression 'what you don't know won't hurt you'? Your DS will be none the wiser. He'll still get his ice cream! Can't see the problem! (i do this kind of thing all the time!)

Doggymummar · 21/07/2023 22:29

What is the big deal?

BlairWaldorfOG · 21/07/2023 22:30

Total overreaction on your part. Thoughtful of buy the ice cream and as long as it's replaced what's the issue?

cocksstrideintheevening · 21/07/2023 22:31

How is your ds going to know? Massive overreaction

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/07/2023 22:34

If he's going to replace it I don't see what difference it makes.

CC4712 · 21/07/2023 22:36

Is this really your biggest concern in life right now??? 🙄 YABU

TwinsPlusAnotherOne · 21/07/2023 22:37

Is the original tub of Hagen Daaz blessed by unicorns, this rendering every other tub of fucking identical replacement Hagen Daaz, useless?

Circumferences · 21/07/2023 22:43

Am I the only one thinking a tub of ice cream is an unusual gift 🤣

UniversalTruth · 21/07/2023 22:45

Am the only one who wouldn't think of gifting ice cream? Surely it wasn't a 'gift', it was nice food you got in for his birthday, for everyone to share.

Chickenpie35 · 21/07/2023 22:45

Wow! Wish this was the only thing I'd like to ask mn right now.

If this was anyone's biggest worry I'm sure they'd be happy. Get over it and over yourself

UniversalTruth · 21/07/2023 22:46

Haha cross poat @Circumferences

Lindy2 · 21/07/2023 22:53

Sounds like your OH was hoping to share the ice cream with your DS. Now DS has gone away the ice cream sharing is delayed.

If he's replacing the tub of ice cream then I really don't see a problem. DS still gets his present.

3luckystars · 21/07/2023 22:56

I don’t actually know what the problem could be with this.

it’s ice cream ? How would he even know? They are all the same.

LunaNorth · 21/07/2023 22:57

Fucking hell, the times I’ve bought about three lots of Easter eggs when my kids were little, because I kept eating the ones I’d bought.

Somehow they survived childhood.

Hufflepods · 21/07/2023 22:57

You’re being precious. Total non issue.

YABU if he fully replaces it in plenty of time
YANBU if he doesn't

My DCs father regularly eats treats meant for them. I can't hide ice cream, it has to be in the freezer. He does not replace things. Hopefully your OH is a better person.
