Bridge has broken and I'm at a festival

It's ruining my festival. I have a dental bridge due to hypodontia right at the front and it has broken. It now has a bit of white material on it and you can see all the metal. It looks disgusting and I don't want to open my mouth. It's uncomfortable and is abrasive against my lip. I've just got here, am 4 hours away from my dentist and am not back home until Tuesday when I have meetings. I don't know what to do. How can i let this not ruin my weekend? I've always hated my teeth and just feel really horrible. I don't want to talk to anyone because my teeth are very visible when I talk.

Can you keep putting chewing gum on the sharp bit?

Can you keep putting chewing gum on the sharp bit?

Possibly but I imagine that might be really annoying and equally as uncomfortable.

Phone your dentist now for advice

Chowtime · 21/07/2023 09:10

Can you just get hold of one of those masks we used to use in Covid? Lots of people still use them. Or book in at the dentist and then come back to the festival.

Rachel63 · 21/07/2023 09:11

Apologies if this isn't possible for you- I had a front veneer detach when I was on holiday. I was able to use the temporary crown paste to stick it back on (available at boots/ superdrug). Unfortunately as it was a front tooth I couldn't eat with the temporary solution on as it's not strong enough but it certainly improved the appearance. I had to take it off for eating (and be gentle) and restick back on. If you can leave for an hour to get to a pharmacy it's worth it to feel more confident until you can get to a dentist.

Enko · 21/07/2023 09:11

Phone your dentist and see if there is an emergency one close to where you are thst can do a temporary fix.

I've just spoken to them but there's nothing they can do until I get back as they're 4.5 hours away

There should be a first aid tent. They might have better supplies and will have seen similar issues before.

Tiny2018 · 21/07/2023 09:25

I feel your pain after having fallen years ago and knocked my two front teeth out. Had to wait two weeks for dental work.

I just told everybody what happened and covered my mouth when I spoke. Finding and wearing a mask as previous PP suggested is your best bet here I think.

Id go to my dentist. I’d rather lose today (Friday) and have fun Sat,Sun, Mon than be miserable all weekend.

queenrollo · 21/07/2023 09:33

Do go to Welfare/Medical services because they might be able to help. I'm not sure which festival you are at (I know Bluedot is on this weekend) but there is sometimes more medical provision than you are aware of.

You have my sympathy, as a seasoned festival goer it's awful having to deal with issues like this so far from home and with reduced facilites.

My own dentist can't see me for two weeks which is also fairly upsetting!

You don't necessarily need a dentist, just a dentire repair laboratory that does same day repairs. Where is the nearest town to you?

Honnomushi · 21/07/2023 09:46

Could you get hold of some orthodontic wax from Boots or similar? Should at least give you some protection from rubbing metal and it's not too uncomfortable.

Milk2SugarsAndAShotOfYourFinestValium · 21/07/2023 09:51

Oh what shit timing!!

I’d find local emergency dentist and accept cost. I wouldn’t be able to handle that for a full weekend given the discomfort.

Prettybubblesintheair · 21/07/2023 09:59

I work in a dentist. In this situation we’d register you and bring you in for an emergency appointment to do a temporary fix. Google dentist/emergency dentists and call them, explain the situation (be nice to the receptionist, it’ll get you everywhere!) and they should be able to help. You’ll have to pay and you’ll lose today at the festival but surely that’s better than hating the whole weekend.

If I wait to see my dentist do you think they'd give me a temporary fix whilst I wait for a new bridge to be made?

You can get a denture repair kit from boots, I think it's the pink acrylic stuff and you mix it and stick it back together, which might work to cover the metal piece if you can get to a dentist Dentemp

Def google around for an emergency dentist. I snapped off my cap a few weeks ago and was in the next day. I would rather lose a day and get it sorted than feed sad and uncomfy all weekend! Hope you find something x

Lollygaggle · 21/07/2023 15:03

If it's is porcelain that has broken off the bridge there is virtually nothing you can do as temporary fixes do not tend to stick to metal.
The whole bridge will need replacing , it is not a quick job , but you should have a temporary bridge whilst the new one is being made.
Did you bash it with a bottle or something or did the porcelain just break off? If the bridge has been there many years it may need to be a slightly different design if it was not an accident that broke it.

Isntthisniceandnew · 21/07/2023 15:06

If you're at Latitude I'm sure there must be emergency dentists in Suffolk. Maybe someone on here can direct you to one? Honestly given the weather forecast this weekend your tooth may be the least of your concerns.

Apparently it's not an emergency and I haven't got an appointment until the 2nd August and that's only for a check up. I'll then have to come back after that for any work to be done and could be up to a month. I'm gutted. Don't want to smile.

I’m so sorry that is ridiculous. Are you private or nhs? They can’t leave you like that, we absolutely wouldn’t. I’m in London, please feel free to pm me if we can help.
