DH clothing choice for baby

sillyme563 · 20/07/2023 12:42

DH came downstairs ready to take baby to nursery. He's dressed her in a jumper and a pair of tights.

Argues that the tights are fine stop fussing.

Aibu?

Tights are like leggings. If she's too hot, nursery will take them off. Pick your battles

GodspeedJune · 20/07/2023 12:50

Yanbu. Tights need a skirt or dress over the top.

StormInaDcup99 · 20/07/2023 12:51

This is a tricky one OP.

I would put a skirt or dress on over the tights for sure.

A lot of women complain their dhs are not hands on.....your DH sounds like he is.......so its about having a conversation with him where you phrase it in such a way he will still stay engaged, OR try to let it wash over you and choose your battles

Good luck

Hufflepods · 20/07/2023 12:52

Honestly don’t be the baby expert. Tights and a jumper are fine for a baby.
If you take over every little thing you will end up resentful and doing it all in 10 years time.

For a baby?

Why though? Skirts and dresses make crawling, climbing or playing difficult.

Backtothe90splease · 20/07/2023 12:55

Tights are underwear.l so she'd be half dressed in my view. And it's roasting here so tights and a jumper would be far too hot.

TropicalTrama · 20/07/2023 12:57

Where do you live? I know it’s not your point but it’s warm here today so I’d be more worried about overheating than I would about the fashion faux pas. For that reason I don’t even have tights in DD’s wardrobe in summer because they’re for underneath dresses when it’s cold.

I'm assuming she's referring to a young baby as op did not specify age.

You could put trousers on over the tights ( but might make baby too warm in summer)if they're more mobile

What, in case everyone sees her baby bottom? Covered in tights and a nappy anyway?

Check the weather, dress baby accordingly, no drama. Tights are too warm for today where I am, baby or not.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 20/07/2023 13:01

A baby can definitely pull this look off so I wouldn't worry.
It's practical and warm. Might look a bit daft but oh well.

sillyme563 · 20/07/2023 13:03

It's not super warm today. Tights, for me, are underwear so it's a bit odd to have them as trousers.

I’d of changed the baby; i wouldn’t want nursery to think it was a weird outfit as it basically is without a dresss. Also if she gets hot and tights come off then she’s just in a nappy which is a weird nursery outfit

Newjobformoremoney · 20/07/2023 13:04

Honestly, this isn’t the hill to die on.

My DDs tights are see through despite being knitted! Definitely not outerwear like trousers are.

fuckthisprivilage · 20/07/2023 13:07

Tights are not just leggings with socks, they have a different design and are made with totally different fabrics.

But tights are a stupid thing to put a baby in anyway. Personally I think babies are happiest in simple tops and comfortable leggings or joggers, or, if they're not yet mobile, babygrows.

PuttingDownRoots · 20/07/2023 13:07

How old? An immobile baby its practical.
Crawlking... I found tights fell down
Walking... potential trip hazard/slippery

My DH had some corkers. Like putting the vest on over the sleepsuit. Dressing DD1 in DD2s pyjamas to go out. Clashing patterns...

Emmamoo89 · 20/07/2023 13:09

If its cold nothing wrong with tights and a jumper on a baby..

Skinnermarink · 20/07/2023 13:09

I don’t know, because my DH will say something like ‘I never get to choose toddler DS’s clothes’ but when I say ok go ahead, knock yourself out he’ll put him in black skinny jeans and a sleeveless woollen jumper, for soft play for example. So I have to go and do it again/leave a specific outfit out because the above obviously isn’t practical. Pisses me off, it takes more thought than that.

Hufflepods · 20/07/2023 13:13

@PuttingDownRoots Clashing patterns...

The horror. Clashing patterns on a baby.

Honestly you do yourself no favours with things like this. Women complain about being the default parent, the mental load etc and then get unnecessarily worked up over a baby in ‘clashing’ clothes.

Theunamedcat · 20/07/2023 13:13

Tights are winter underwear and not summer wear

The jumper is winter wear

If nursery say anything it's dad's choice nowt to do with you

Ladies 15 denier tights might be underwear. Babies tights are more like leggings so absolutely fine.
