DH clothing choice for baby

sillyme563 · 20/07/2023 12:42

DH came downstairs ready to take baby to nursery. He's dressed her in a jumper and a pair of tights.

Argues that the tights are fine stop fussing.

It's odd but she's clothed and fine so don't be the baby expert and just live with it.

A baby can definitely pull this look off so I wouldn't worry.
It's practical and warm. Might look a bit daft but oh well.

She might become a trendsetter, though I think it may be a bit late for that. About 8 years ago, I met a teacher on a course and he was horrified telling us about a girl who had come to school (non-uniform) without a skirt on. After a bit of quizzing, we worked out that she was wearing leggings. FF 8 years and just about all girls (and some women old enough to know better) are wearing leggings when out and about.

@PuttingDownRoots Clashing patterns...

The horror. Clashing patterns on a baby.

Honestly you do yourself no favours with things like this. Women complain about being the default parent, the mental load etc and then get unnecessarily worked up over a baby in ‘clashing’ clothes.

Actually I found it funny (as did his Mother!) And let them happily play in the bizarre outfits DH came up with! DH happily admits coordination isn't one of his strong points.

Younger DD isn't much better than her father and puts together wierd and wonderful outfits to go out in still at 10yo!

Tights are winter underwear and not summer wear

The jumper is winter wear

If nursery say anything it's dad's choice nowt to do with you

With all due respect, what are the nursery going to say?

When my daughter was at nursery kids turned up in all sorts. A preschooler wore pyjamas every day, others were in fancy dress. My daughter wore leggings and a dress every day because that was what she liked to wear (a cotton casual dress that she could play in) - as long as they are clothed and comfortable nobody cares.

Yanbu. Tights need a skirt or dress over the top.

This

WandaWonder · 20/07/2023 13:23

Sure odd but why do you 'own' what your child wears?

Does it really matter?

Badger1970 · 20/07/2023 13:26

I'd get up tomorrow and walk around in a jumper and a pair of tights.

Loveys · 20/07/2023 13:28

Who says they need anything over the top? The clothes law?

Yonderway · 20/07/2023 13:28

For a baby I think tights and a jumper are fine, tights are very similar to leggings anyway and much easier for a baby to get around in tights than a dress.
The only issue would be if its hot where you are. If not then I don't see the issue

Hufflepods · 20/07/2023 13:28

I regularly seen babies wear tights as trousers on mat leave. Its really not that weird.
Adult rules hardly apply. Are you adults wearing nappies and bibs too?

Wait till she insists on wearing pants on her head

adriftinadenofvipers · 20/07/2023 13:29

OMG what does it matter?!!

My eldest was a newborn during a hot summer. I used to take them out wearing only a vest...

Mummy08m · 20/07/2023 13:29

It sounds like you are talking about a small baby.

When your baby grows into a toddler (if she's anything like mine) she'll insist on choosing what to wear to nursery and then tights and a jumper will pale in comparison to the ridiculous outfits she will choose!

Pyjamas, odd socks, weird combinations of summer and winter clothes, the most clashing colours and prints, insisting on having an evening handbag with her jogger-set, several days in a row (yes this happened, and nursery put the photos on the app for all the parents to see)... and you'll let it all go.

Practise now, let it go - as long as the baby is comfortable and the right temperature it's fine. Nursery does not care.

I think leggings and a dress is still considered quite stylish in certain echelons of MN S&B board!

Mummy08m · 20/07/2023 13:31

Ps my dd has a classmate at nursery who kept wearing her peppa pig christmas jumper well into the month of May. Basically until it got too hot. Another classmate wore a Halloween t shirt the other day. Seriously, it's fine.

Icannoteven · 20/07/2023 13:32

What is the weather like? As long as the clothes are appropriate for the weather and activity planned then I would let it go. Nursery will probably realise baby has been dressed by dad though 😬 one time I was at a toddler music class and a little girl was there with her dad. She was dressed in one of those beach towels shaped like a dress - I’m guessing the dad hadn’t realised that it wasn’t actually clothing 😂

It's July!

I was replying to a previous comment by someone else who was querying a comment by me
I know it's July and summer in the northern hemisphere
......I wasn't suggesting tights and trousers for summer.

Hufflepods · 20/07/2023 13:32

@Newname211 With all due respect, what are the nursery going to say?

Phone social services obviously!

Icannoteven · 20/07/2023 13:33

Oh and just wait until the baby wants to dress themselves. One of my dd’s insisted on wearing her crocodile wellies all year around, regardless of the situation or weather.

DinnaeFashYersel · 20/07/2023 13:34

She's a baby. It really doesn't matter and not worth arguing over.

Hopefulbride18 · 20/07/2023 13:36

I've had this debate with my DH many times 🤣

I'm sure he's doing the tights and jumper outfit just to annoy me now ! Interesting others on here agree with him though that they're more like leggings.

To me, it looks wrong, so I'm with you - tights need a long dress or top with them! They are not to be used interchangeably with trousers at any point.

empatheticpretzel · 20/07/2023 13:40

youre meant to dress a baby in layers so they can be taken off or added to if needed

empatheticpretzel · 20/07/2023 13:43

You're not being unreasonable, it looks stupid

Hugasauras · 20/07/2023 13:46

DD1 often wore a top and thick tights that were like those leggings you get except had feet on. Way easier than socks! Can't say it occurred to me to care about the fashion choices of an infant.

PussInBin20 · 20/07/2023 13:51

It’s not about the fact whether the items go together or not though. I wouldn’t want my baby to overheat!

I mean I wouldn’t be wearing tights and a jumper in the middle of bloody Summer - it’s just obvious.

Although my DH wears the same clothes all year round, so maybe not?
I would still change her though as she won’t be comfortable.

In my experience blokes don’t really think about this kind of thing - just “she needs clothes”.
