To think that cutting your grass at 9.15pm is out of order?

Next door neighbour has just started doing their lawn and it’s 9.15pm. We have a 2 year old who is trying to sleep on the back of the house. Neighbour is well aware we have a small child. I just feel that this time of night is unreasonable when they’ve been at home all day as they’ve been sat in their garden!

Sounds very u reasonable. Nearly dark too.
Maybe do yours when they are nodding off in the afternoon

YourNameGoesHere · 15/07/2023 21:30

Very unreasonable!

Although I'm not going to lie my biggest take away from your post was fuck where do you live that the grass isn't drowning under all the rain from the last week!

Yes, I was wondering this. We have had torrential rain the last two days.

We are in the Midlands. It has chucked it down on and off throughout today! She’s still out there now with the lawnmower…

I would just love to know where you live. It's torrentially rained for 90% of today 🙈 I almost wish someone was cutting their grass here...

That makes the whole situation even more batshit. Her lawn and her mower are going to be fucked!

DP said this and he is wondering if that’s why it seems to be taking her so long. It lasted rained about 4pm here, so whether she has waited and waited and thought 9.15pm it might be dry… who bloody knows!!

How is it still light enough to be mowing the grass , it’s reallly dark here

Hufflemuff · 15/07/2023 21:40

Do what my mum does when her neighbour's shooting video game booms through the walls till gone 3am.

Put Wuthering Heights on repeat at full volume and aim your speakers against your walls at 6am when you leave for work.

Just kidding - 9.15am is no 3am.

I'd settle for some window slamming and loud conversations with DH by the backdoor about DD being woken up by a mower.

Namechangedforthis25 · 15/07/2023 21:41

Would annoy me loads

and I think it’s unreasonable

but what can you do about it? Will you say something

Mygrandadwasmywingman · 15/07/2023 21:44

I'll swap your neighbours for ours
They've been blasting out Bryan Adams since half past 4 this afternoon-its still going on
I don't know what's worse-bryan Adams at full blast, her howling along to it or your neighbour
Both are out of order

Oh no, you definitely win out of the two. She’s finished now, so I only had 30 minutes of the lawnmower 😂

Well, she has just finished. Thankfully DD didn’t wake up as we put some rain noise on in her room. Interesting split on the vote. Perhaps I was being unreasonable as it seems a good lot would cut their grass at 9.15pm too 😂

Haha-i swear if I hear 'summer of 69' one more time,I'll lose it
We don't get on with them-they just turned on us one day but if it's still going on after 11pm,I'll be forced to phone the police to get her to turn it down
If its not good ol' Bryan, she's swinging the hoover round at 3am
Joy of living in a street I guess

FoodFann · 15/07/2023 21:49

Yes it is out of order. In fact, I think power tools are illegal after 7pm. Maybe a mower counts! Complain to the council

Humidititties · 15/07/2023 21:50

Bit annoying. My neighbour started jetwashing his driveway at 21.45 last night, was still going at 23.00. I was up anyway but a bit inconsiderate to the other neighbours

noglow · 15/07/2023 21:51

People have noisy parties til 10. Lawn mowers are no worse than that.

Squiggo · 15/07/2023 21:53

We’ve had loads of rain but DH still got the ride on mower out this evening.

kayserah · 15/07/2023 21:56

She’s probably having a garden party tomorrow

Not in the Midlands she isn't.

BungleandGeorge · 15/07/2023 22:04

It’s not warm enough to need a window open so I don’t think a mower is actually that noisy and it’s not that late. I wouldn’t do it personally but would personally find it much less disruptive than a ‘gathering’ in her garden and people generally have those until 10/11 (or later if they’re totally inconsiderate!)

GlitteryGreen · 15/07/2023 22:22

I think it's one of those things where it's super annoying to you (and would be to me) because you have a small child, but actually it's not that late and many wouldn't think anything of it.

She's probably taking her chance to do it while it's not raining and hasn't thought about your little one.

Is she friendly? If she is I'd have a chat next time you see her and just ask her if it would be OK to mow earlier as your daughter is in the back bedroom etc etc

VeniVidiWeeWee · 15/07/2023 22:23

@FoodFann

Want to quote the legislation on that?

Thought not.

Peacoffee · 15/07/2023 22:26

It’s very much still light here at 9:15 so I don’t think it’s that unreasonable on a weekend.

HedgesNotFences · 15/07/2023 22:27

Looking at it from the other point of view, do you keep your daughter quiet until 9am so she can have a lie in?
