To want a pink bathroom

Maternityleavelady · 14/07/2023 09:33

Hi, we have a grey marble en-suite bathroom. I would like to paint the bathroom vanity unit a pale pink. The amount of pink in the room would be pretty small (2m wide for double sinks by 60cm high). DH is massively opposed to pink because he is old fashioned and thinks it is girly. If he has his way the entire house would be boring grey. AIBU to want a tiny bit of pink in the only bathroom in the house where no guests go and I spend way more time in there than him?

(For context we have another family bathroom which is boring grey and beige already!)

Bright colour yes, just not pink.

Whatames · 14/07/2023 11:11

My other half doesn’t like pink so as a compromise I was allowed to paint the en-suite pink. I used Farrow and Ball Pink Ground and it’s beautiful

yellowsmileyface · 14/07/2023 11:16

LTB.

Honestly though, I couldn't be putting up with an entirely greige house. Go ahead and paint the unit pink. Ask for forgiveness, not permission. 😁

rubylink · 14/07/2023 11:42

Not bathroom, but my whole kitchen diner is painted in a match of F&B Sulking Room Pink, complete with up cycled rose pink sideboard. Our box room My dressing room is a bright happy coral pink. And now with our first DC, a little DD, on the way, I have 6 pink swatches on what will be her bedroom wall that I’m debating over. Thankfully I have a pink-loving DP. Point is, if it makes you happy then sod it OP! I doubt you love every single thing in your home DP has chosen - point in case your already grey walls?! Good luck and enjoy your little bit of pink

This is true

I think he might notice now after discussions/negotiations which have been ongoing for months on the subject 😂

I can't agree to pink, my worst colour, but definitely not grey, I know what you mean, my 3 bathrooms and toilets are grey, black and chrome, that's ok, but the rest of my house will be colourful, when eventually done.
I so wanted a turquoise bathroom, real 70s under the sea style, but I wasn't allowed, so He won't be allowed on the rest of the house.

Jesus woman! Grab a brush! I bet a tenner he won’t even notice!

I agree with this 100%, many years ago I repainted the white render outside our home, terracotta, DH came home, didn’t say a word, after a week or so he said didn’t it used to be white outside 😂

Maternityleavelady · 14/07/2023 12:54

Not surprised to learn that most of you think a bit of pink is fine, a good compromise and that he is being ridiculous! Glad many of you have more open minded DHs when it comes to decor!

Honestly OP, in future just do it. My DH didn’t like the disruption caused by decorating etc, when we first started out, I would wait until he was away on business for a few days and get it done, he was always happy with it, once he noticed 😂

I think everyone should have their houses the colour they want and ignore the latest fashion, it makes life very boring.

UndercoverCop · 14/07/2023 14:22

Our morning room is pink. Is your DH a child, does he think a pink bathroom vanity will make his penis fall off? Our bedroom is green, spare room has a yellow quite elaborately patterned wallpaper, DS' room is a pale turquoise colour, bathroom is Hague blue. I do have some light grey in the open plan living dining rooms but also patterned wallpaper in more than half the rooms. I like colour

UndercoverCop · 14/07/2023 14:22

@bilbodog I really like that wallpaper

Thank you ladies. Has anyone else’s DH objected to pink decor or is mine just a fuddy duddy?!

Recently decorated spare room in pink… he was not too keen on it but did not stop me doing it!

willowtree66 · 14/07/2023 14:25

Tell him his penis is pink, so he must like the colour on some level 🤣

My bathroom is entirely pink.

It's a 70s one that wasn't ever updated (it's on the list!)

When I say pink, I mean PINK! Ceiling. Walls. Basin. Bath. Tiles. Woodwork. It's like being inside a marshmallow.

Other than it being a bit ropey with some cracked tiles and shocking grouting, my DP has made no comment at all. It's just a colour. He certainly doesn't feel it threatens his masculinity...

And pink looks nice with grey.

Same! We moved in last year and can't afford to replace it. I actually love it though. We've got patterned bathmats, loads of plants and bright pink and green towels. It looks awesome 😍

NowItsSpring · 14/07/2023 14:48

Well a friend of mine has a shocking pink bathroom ceiling - her daughter painted it to brighten up a rather dull grey bathroom. Looks fab!

FadeAwayAndRadiate · 14/07/2023 14:49

YANBU. Grey is grim and outdated. It was always dreary. Our bathroom is pink! (And blue.) Bit of a mix.

My shower room is turquoise. The plumber pulled a face when he saw the tiles but when he finished he agreed it looked great. Then I showed him the bright orange paint for the walls in the kitchen and the denim blue for the chimney breast in there!

Walesagogo · 15/07/2023 22:02

I have grey with dusky pink in mine. It looks more subtle and IMHO quite classy. I really love it. White towels look great with it too or navy blue towels would work.

Underminer · 16/07/2023 00:22

Just about to use Frenchic Alfresco Dusky Pink in our bathroom. The under sink unit was white but has turned yellowy cream. DH likes most colours. Especially ones he doesn’t have to paint!

Wouldn't say your DH is a fuddy duddy.

Would say he's sexist and ridiculous.

We have a lot of pink in our house. My DH helped choose the colour. And he wears pink 😱

Are all penises pink? 🤔

I thought they were generally related to skin tone.

RosesAndHellebores · 16/07/2023 00:40

We have no grey in the house.
I am relieved DH leaves colours and furnishings entirely to me.
My first house was very pink. Pale.pink carpets, raspberry pink curtains, but also.with lotsnof soft green. I even had a soft pink kitchen fitted :).

I have pink downlights in the kitchen.

I have read that coloured porcelain is about to make a comeback in bathrooms.

Surely grey must be on its way out.
