Asking what a "tasteful splash of colour" is for funeral attire?

Mycatstolemylunch · 12/07/2023 12:12

Apologies if this is very obvious but this is the 3rd funeral I've been to and this has never been requested before.

I currently already own a black, funeral-appropriate dress but I'm not sure how to add a splash of colour. Any ideas on accessories that would be appropriate or would you change dress?

Thanks in advance

I'd go with a colourful scarf from that description.

RudolfsLeftToe · 12/07/2023 12:14

A scarf? A bright bag / belt / shoes? I’ve never heard of that before, although I have been to a few funerals which requested little to no black.

WhiteFire · 12/07/2023 12:14

I would maybe add some kind of scarf or a brooch / ribbon.

WhenDoISleep · 12/07/2023 12:17

A scarf (or pashmina) or belt? Possibly shoes, but it might depend on the style.

Is it a specific colour or more a general request?

Hoppinggreen · 12/07/2023 12:19

We asked for this at my Mums funeral and most people wore a bright scarf or tie and DD had a bright red handbag

Hufflemuff · 12/07/2023 12:28

Feather bowa.

No just kidding. I'd probably wear a bright pair of shoes or handbag.

OneTC · 12/07/2023 12:34

Shoes, bag, small hat or flower hair pin, scarf, just any of the accessory bits really

TroublesomeTrucks · 12/07/2023 12:36

I would say a cardigan would be ok too.

almostoverthehill · 12/07/2023 12:37

Scarf/shoes/belt/handbag/necklace/brooch

8misskitty8 · 12/07/2023 12:38

Scarf or handbag.

thecatinthetwat · 12/07/2023 12:38

Cardigan or jacket too if the rest is black.

Do88byisfree · 12/07/2023 12:45

I'd probably wear black trousers/skirt with a coloured or patterned top and then wear a black cardigan or jacket

LulooLemon · 12/07/2023 12:51

Why do people have to give dress codes like this? I find them really annoying. Some people just don't want to wear a splash of colour to a funeral.

Beeswood · 12/07/2023 12:52

I wore a scarf when this was requested.

HappiDaze · 12/07/2023 12:53

You can't go wrong with a scarf

Greenflamesburn · 12/07/2023 12:55

I wore Black trousers and a red blouse to the last one I went to, my sister had a lovely black dress and wore a blue blazer. Gain asked to wear colour

GlitterIsTheWorkOfTheDevil · 12/07/2023 12:55

I wore a chunky necklace in the colour.

Cherrysherbet · 12/07/2023 12:58

I’d go with a colourful scarf

Coffeedrinker7 · 12/07/2023 13:00

I’m not really one for scarves so I’d probably go for colourful earrings or necklace, maybe a bag

Necklace, ring, nail polish. Handbag.

Nat6999 · 12/07/2023 13:10

I wore a bright pink scarf & purple boots to my dad's funeral with black.

NeverThatSerious · 12/07/2023 13:15

A bright scarf, bag, shoes, brooch, hair accessory, cardigan, something like that. Sorry for your loss.

Wicksytricksy · 12/07/2023 13:18

Scarf, cardi, shirt under the shirt if it's the right style, shoes, bag, necklace.

I've been to 4 funerals this year that have requested a colour to be worn (it's been a rough year). I like it, though I did have to borrow a bag for the purple one from a friend.

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 12/07/2023 13:19

If it’s too warm to wear a scarf I’ve tied a silk scarf to my handbag before so I’m in keeping with the ‘Please wear something x y z colour’ requests.

Riapia · 12/07/2023 13:52

A family friend who was a keen cyclist requested that all his friends attended his funeral in their cycling gear. Very colourful.

My Aunty’s wish was no black to be worn at her funeral.

I only want people to come to my funeral if they have nothing better to do. No dress code.
