To leave my laundry out in the rain and just wait for it to dry again?

Is this something other people do too?

I put my laundry out early this morning, it was drying off nicely…and then it started raining and has barely stopped.

AIBU for just leaving it out, even though it’s now soaked? And I’ll then just wait until it dries off again? Are there any downsides?

But it will get darked on!

Cryingbutstilltrying · 04/07/2023 22:30

Not to mention the spider willies…

My neighbour has left theirs out for 3 days now. Rained on at least 4 times.
I wouldn’t leave it but I can’t criticise tbh!

Dotandtime · 04/07/2023 22:30

My mum would be horrified but I've done it and nothing terrible happened.

KnitMePurlMe · 04/07/2023 22:31

It’s fine! Rain is clean 😊

Murphs1 · 04/07/2023 22:32

Do it all the time 😁

AngryBirdsNoMore · 04/07/2023 22:33

I did wonder whether to mention the darked on and spicy willy aspect in my OP!

Do it pretty much weekly

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/07/2023 22:34

Me. It can be weeks.

My windows and car (in a town) say otherwise. But it was clean when we lived in the countryside 😁
location, location,location?

AngryBirdsNoMore · 04/07/2023 22:34

I’m so glad I’m not alone in this.

I am in west London though…

I’ve left mine out tonight 😬

jmh740 · 04/07/2023 22:35

I've left a fleece blanket on the line for 3 days it keeps getting wet again....but its for the dogs bed not sure if I'd have left it out if it was for people.

I think I'm your neighbour.

fungibletoken · 04/07/2023 22:35

I've definitely done this. A colleague told me it'd get sooty from air pollution but I don't think it's a given (depending on where you live/what's going on with the air quality).

Velvian · 04/07/2023 22:36

I see it as an extra rinse cycle.

DDivaStar · 04/07/2023 22:37

I don't mind leaving out towels and swimming things in the rain or overnight. I tend not to with clothes as I worry the wet/rain, damp and change in temperature might damage them or stretch them. Not sure if thats a thing or just me !

Quitelikeit · 04/07/2023 22:37

I leave mine out for days and weeks sometimes then pop it in the dryer on freshen up for 10 mins to catch all the spiders (have so many webs on my rotary line)

Camdenish · 04/07/2023 22:40

Your west London foxes must be stylistically challenged. Our NW London lot would have the smalls off the line and into the neighbours garden as quick as. Causing a street WhatsApp of whose got whose jeans.

if it wasn’t for the foxes I’d leave the laundry out for an avid rain rinse.

That is hilarious

Yes, it's slovenly. It would also bother me if I could see it in someone else's garden. BUT, I've done it myself before when I'm just too tired. Only my immediate neighbour has a view of it though and I look after her cat when she's away so equilibrium is maintained.

JobMatch3000 · 04/07/2023 22:44

I just consider it an extra rinse.

AutumnCrow · 04/07/2023 22:48

It's actually how I wash my rugs and duvets.

emmylousings · 04/07/2023 22:48

I often do. I think it makes clothes smell nice.

Confusedmeanderings · 04/07/2023 22:48

I do it all the time. I live quite close to a nuclear power station - if anyone comments on the washing being out, I always claim that its making my Whites whiter!

Beginningless · 04/07/2023 22:49

Sometimes they go a bit foosty (now how would you spell that?!) smelling if they’ve been v soaked then take too long to dry. But I do it too!
