To leave my laundry out in the rain and just wait for it to dry again?

Is this something other people do too?

I put my laundry out early this morning, it was drying off nicely…and then it started raining and has barely stopped.

AIBU for just leaving it out, even though it’s now soaked? And I’ll then just wait until it dries off again? Are there any downsides?

I would wash mine again if it was out for ages in rain.

Rain isn't clean. I have a tiled terrace and rain leaves a reddish/brown residue.

Quiverer · 04/07/2023 23:56

I did that. The trouble was that the washing was on a rack on the patio, and there were various climbing plants in the area. The wind and rain blew some of the leaves off and onto the washing and, guess what, the leaves weren't clear. Not one of my cleverer moves.

Quiverer · 04/07/2023 23:57

The leaves weren't clean, not The leaves weren't clear.

I specifically put out the dog's bedding if it's going to rain, before I wash it. It seems to be the only way to get the hair out of it.

They stink though. I personally don’t like line drying at all for any reason other than to get stains out. Prefer a dryer with some scented dryer sheets lol

Each to their own. The smell of scented sheets gives me a migraine! Love fresh clothes smell.

Mine got rained on by a torrential shower. Clothes were practically dragging the line down. Took everything in , put on a rinse and spin cycle with conditioner. Try again tomorrow.

At least the spider's have somewhere to shelter from the rain.

teddybearsbear · 05/07/2023 00:42

I did this today for the first time in my 25 years of doing my own washing! It just started to drizzle after I pegged out this morning and I didn't have the time to fetch it back in before I had to leave

I could hear my mums words of disapproval in my head all day and spent too long at work looking on my garden camera to check the weather but despite a few showers it was dry this evening and smelt lovely

I don’t mind being called a sloven. I’m 38 weeks pregnant, if I don’t get to be slovenly now, when do I!

Aw jeez - it’ll be out there until the babys is 6 months old! 😝🫢

Congratulations and good luck with the new baby.

BoxOfCats · 05/07/2023 01:19

I think you should do it just for the spicy willies. So much more exciting than spider willies!

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 05/07/2023 01:30

I do it all the time

Oblomov23 · 05/07/2023 04:49

No. I never do this. As soon as I see a spot of rain I bring it in. I just don't want it getting damp. I assume it will not smell as fresh once it gets dripping wet then dries again.

Snozzlemaid · 05/07/2023 06:40

I do this all the time as well.
DP is always horrified if he notices and thinks we should bring it in and rewash it.
I don't, but let him, if he wants to faff with hanging it up indoors again.

midgetastic · 05/07/2023 07:16

Depends on how clean the rain is

If you get that Sahara dust in it for example it will turn things pink

If its stotting it down the bottom of stuff may get muddy from the splashes

But mostly fine

Coolhwip · 05/07/2023 07:29

This thread fills me with horror. My mum used to bring washing in by 6pm in the summer, even if it was going to be dry during the night. I do the same. And washing doesn’t get hung out if there’s a chance of rain.

KnitMePurlMe · 04/07/2023 22:31

It’s fine! Rain is clean 😊

Looking at my car the rain is definitely not clean.

Purplestorm83 · 05/07/2023 07:39

The weather forecast in my area has been horribly inaccurate lately, I put the guinea pig hutch liner (large fleece blanket) on the line days ago but every time I go to get it back it has been raining ☹️ don’t think the guinea pigs care about spider willies etc, probably would have made more effort if it was actual clothes!
