Do you shave for you or for men/women?

Hoping this doesn't offend anybody. I'm talking about all over, legs, armpits etc.
I shave my legs and armpits every day as I like the smooth feeling and I get stubble after even one day. I even have to pluck my chin hairs most days and have regular dermaplaning as I seem to have a very hairy face.
However I realise that I'm conditioned to think bodily hair on women is 'gross'. It's expected that women have smooth, hair-free bodies, of course you see the odd woman with full armpit/leg hair in retaliation, but generally not. I remember forgetting to shave once, going out in a dress and feeling so ashamed and 'dirty'.
Men don't have these pressures.

Shave for myself. Love the feeling of smooth legs in particular - especially when wearing tights. Never waxed as I’ve not been able to leave the hair to grow. I don’t do anything to please men.

I’m not sure I’m grossed out by body hair on women, but def on myself. I feel unclean. If I was with someone that was hairy it would be a deal breaker as I’ve got sensitive skin so hair brushing against me would set me off scratching.

It was only recently that I found out that many women lose body hair in menopause territory. So hoping I am one of those!!!

tbh most of the men I’ve had in my life have been pretty well groomed and it’s not unusual for younger men at least to shave/wax parts of their body.

MissTrip82 · 05/07/2023 00:59

Of course I don’t just do it for me.

I’d have to be an absolute moron to think societal expectations hadn’t affected me at all.

LaMaG · 05/07/2023 01:06

Definitely for public show. Also cos I'm overweight and I'm very embarrassed by myself, i feel the very least I should be is well groomed as otherwise I'm falling into 'completely letting myself go' territory. If I was tall and slim and beautiful I'd like to go full natural cos I'd get away with it. Maybe even start a trend!!

Anskl · 05/07/2023 01:08

I don't shave because I've had laser hair removal on my legs, underarms, and bikini line. I'm fortunate that I don't have unwanted hair elsewhere, such as my face, forearms, etc.

I chose to permanently remove the hair because shaving the stubble proved too high maintenance.

I did this for me, to save time and because I prefer a smooth feel.

I've been with DH 12 years and not once has he expressed preference regarding my body hair or lack of it.

smilesup · 05/07/2023 01:10

I used to shave underarms and legs for societal pressure. I don't bother anymore and feel great about how liberating it is. I've never shaved my pubic hair but was always quite tidy naturally. Not one of the (quite numerous men) I've shagged/loved/lived with or married have ever mentioned it. Far too happy to have got between my lovely thighs 😁

tt9 · 05/07/2023 01:33

I quite like a bit of insulation in the winter but much easier to apply body butter if legs shaved. I did start whole body laser but have been too busy to complete treatment. as a Muslim we do have to make sure to remove hair from armpits and private parts (both men and women). and I do feel very stinky and not fresh if those are not done...

Pinkroom · 05/07/2023 01:34

Surprised at responses to be honest. I shave everywhere, for myself and my partner. He doesn't care like I assume he does but I feel a lot nicer clean shaven, I also like him to shave too.

Inthetropics · 05/07/2023 01:50

I shave my underarms because I like how it feels and how it looks. I'll also shave my legs but don't feel bad about using a dress when I have a bit of visible hair growing - I've heard a few comments because of it before. I shave or trim my pubic region because sex feels a lot more pleasurable for me when I don't have any hair or have short hair.

LordSalem · 05/07/2023 02:21

For me. Recently bought a whole new wardrobe to get me out of a slump, armpits shaved every morning in the shower so I can wear any top I like. Legs and arms once a week so I can go with any outfit I fancy.
Other areas I do when they become uncomfortable. No one to impress but cba getting pinched in the nether regions rolling over in bed at night etc.

LordSalem · 05/07/2023 02:23

As for face, I have no natural eyebrows but do remove facial peach fuzz once a week as I've noticed a silver glint around the chin area!

DoAWheelie · 05/07/2023 02:33

I shave under my arms because I stink if I don't. The hair seems to trap the smell and no amount of scrubbing in the shower seems to fully remove it.

I don't shave my legs or anywhere else because I can't be bothered and don't give a shit what anyone else thinks.

OH doesn't care what I do, but he also shaves his pits for the same reason as me.

Highandlows · 05/07/2023 03:34

I do not shave I wax. Do it for hygienic reasons and consideration to any people who do not want see the ugly hair in my armpits and legs. Including myself when I look in the mirror. It is hideous not to do it.

Oblomov23 · 05/07/2023 04:01

I only do it very rarely, for others, because I feel obliged. I don't do my legs in winter, only need to once a month in summer. Only do under my arms when I have to, re what I am a wearing or for a party with a dress. Ds2 made a comment about women's under arm hair the other day which made me very sad, and angry and so I corrected him and told him I was highly unimpressed.

Catsmere · 05/07/2023 04:08

Never shaved except occasionally on my upper lip as it's getting hairier with age and annoys me a bit, and I enjoy hunting down chin spikes, lol. I very much doubt anybody notices or cares, none of it's really visible.

lightisnotwhite · 05/07/2023 04:11

I’ve very hairy. I like summer when I can bleach arm and facial hair and it stays blonde. I don’t mind the hair itself.
I shave my pits because it makes it easier for deodorant. Legs I do for the rest of society.
I used to shave my bikini line but went to waxing as there’s no itch. I get a Brazilian done for me now as easier to wipe and clean up generally plus wear swimwear without worrying.

GarlicGrace · 05/07/2023 05:02

I do it for public opinion. I have trained myself not to care when other people - delivery drivers, shop assistants - see my hairy legs, underarms and/or chin but I do have to consciously 'not care' if you see what I mean.

It pisses me off. It took a lot of effort to get this far, though, and I can't see myself becoming genuinely nonchalant about it. It feels like less trouble to remove the fur (though I haven't yet, this summer - I'll probably do it tomorrow!)

I've never had a bald vulva, though, I think adults look weird with no pubes.

Cakesandbabes · 05/07/2023 05:26

Dh doesn't care. If I exercise regularly I certainly shave. I am a sweater 🙄 and shaving really does help me even in a summer. Deodorant just catchea on better. I remember gym guys shaving and I am assuming many still do too. I don't wear clothes where people would know whether I shave or not so it is just for my comfort

moneymatr · 05/07/2023 05:34

Honestly I'd say societal expectations

AuntieMarys · 05/07/2023 05:42

For me! I have never had armpit hair, my legs are lasered and dh removes the rest.
He also shaves his armpits as he knows I dislike it.

RatatouilleAndFeta · 05/07/2023 05:47

Shave legs/ pits
Sometimes the bikini line gets a wax and the bush a trim.
Tweeze annoying face hairs
Wax toes

Looking at getting a lumier thingy tbh.
I remove hair more frequently in summer. because I want to. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why does your DH remove your hair?

Why does your DH remove your hair?

It's easier for me! Plus he enjoys it.

DogbertMcDogglesworth · 05/07/2023 06:37

As I said upthread, I've never removed any body hair by any method, but out of curiosity can I ask why some of you remove yours because of ' society expectations ' ? Why does what society think bother you so much?
Just curious.

doorstopper123 · 05/07/2023 07:13

OP, the more you shave, the more stubble grows thick and fast

I wax my own legs: always have and do it about once a month in summer and less frequently in winter

If anyone has ever noticed my furry legs, they have never mentioned it

You don't have any standards that come about from societal expectations? You never say thank you when you don't really mean it? You don't clean the outside of you car or keep for front garden tidy? You don't send your children to school looking presentable? Etc etc .
