To let DS wear odd socks on purpose?

He's ended up with odd socks to school by accident before. There is a girl there (let's call her Hermione) who has been telling him off about this.

He thinks it's hilarious.

DS6 now wants to wear the most odd socks possible to school.

School does not care about socks.

WIBU to allow this?

Do it, 😄

Capitalismwantsyou · 01/07/2023 16:00

I love odd socks!

YeahIsaidit · 01/07/2023 16:01

As someone who thinks life is too short to spend pairing up socks after doing the laundry I regularly wear odd socks. YANBU to let your DS wear odd socks, I encourage very very odd, perhaps a brightly coloured spotty one with a plain black one? Fruit patterned and stripes, go go go!!

Topseyt123 · 01/07/2023 16:01

My 21 year old DD3 rarely wears socks that match. Always odd socks.

Let him if his current school don't object (some schools would).

RachelGreensHair · 01/07/2023 16:01

Yes!!

Isittimeformynapyet · 01/07/2023 16:01

This is the thin end of the wedge OP. If you allow this he'll be high on crack before the year's out 😱

WeWereInParis · 01/07/2023 16:01

YANBU. I never match socks. I'm not sure my DD knows socks should match.

DataNotLore · 01/07/2023 16:03

It's particularly pertinent now it's shorts season.

He may have managed to do it without me noticing the other day (rushed) and did a foot waggle dance when he got there.

I don't think mine have ever worn matching socks and the eldest is 27 😁.
Life is too short to match socks.
I was definitely let him just to wind up Miss matchy pants

Fridaysgirl17 · 01/07/2023 16:05

We constantly wear off socks here 🤣 sometimes I try make sure they have a similar colour in them like today 3 year old is wearing camo socks both with navy on them but most certainly odd, life with young kids socks inevitably go

missing so I use what we have found

Fandabedodgy · 01/07/2023 16:06

Go for it

DataNotLore · 01/07/2023 16:07

My DD10 wears shorts all year round and last year at school you would often see her wearing odd socks. We got her a set of 5 with different animals that went up the leg like a green crocodile on a blue background, or a hippo on a green background etc and she would wear these odd.

Wonderful @DataNotLore and may he have a chuckle about it every time 😍

Personally hate odd socks, don't know why it just annoys me but if it makes him happy go for it. I'd just make sure he wears the same odd sock pair (if that makes sense) the next day so they go in the wash together

I think you’re trying to impose too much order on the odd socks!

I wore odd socks for years. One day I noticed I’d worn matching pairs for a while without noticing and felt sad I’d “grown up” without realising it.

CurlewKate · 01/07/2023 16:20

When my two were at primary together they used to wear matching odd socks all the time!

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/07/2023 16:21

Of course you should let him do it. My dd did this at a similar age. No uniform in those days so she co-ordinated different coloured fluorescent socks with opposite coloured laces on white trainers.

Thelastofbus · 01/07/2023 16:22

It’s a struggle to get my kids to wear matching socks. So I don’t bother! I consider it a win if they are wearing 2 socks that came from the same
original multipack!

That sounds fun 😃

FishIsForCatsNotDogs · 01/07/2023 16:22

Look on the bright side OP...the days of trying to match up his socks after washing them are over.

HighEndGrifters · 01/07/2023 16:23

I wear odd socks, they both happen to be black. 😂

TheCheeseTray · 01/07/2023 16:24

It drives me insane but DS refuses to wear matching socks - he is colour blind and has various other colour recognition issues.

Ive played the heavy line and now couldn’t give a tiny rat’s arse - pick your battles and this isn’t mine

Findyourneutralspace · 01/07/2023 16:24

I like his style! Hermione can get in the bin with her matching socks policing.

GalileoHumpkins · 01/07/2023 16:25

I greatly look forward to Hermione being a Mumsnetter in years to come.
