darkdeepandwithsauce · 29/06/2023 11:56

(within reason)

I want a cleaner
I want my weekly food shop from M&S
I want a good selection of gins to choose from anytime I like at home
I want a new car (second hand, but new to me), specifically a Range Rover
I want to be able to have my nails done whenever I need/fancy it

yes this is a materialistic post ! Certain things in my life right now have prompted this.

You are being very very reasonable imo.

takealettermsjones · 29/06/2023 12:01

I want a housekeeper. I'm not bothered about a cleaner, I can do that, I just want someone to do laundry/dishwasher/tidying.

BonnieGlasses · 29/06/2023 12:01

So what's stopping you?
I used to do most of my food shopping in M&S, those were the days!

I imagine not enough money, as all those things together are fucking expensive

martha4clark · 29/06/2023 12:06

Start with the gin. Check offers in supermarkets and treat yourself to a nice bottle, or ask for one for your birthday.

AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison · 29/06/2023 12:08

Ooo, I feel you

In my dream land I have
-a cleaner
-a gardener
-able to cook expensive meals daily e.g. salmon
-cook ready meals for when I'm tired
-pay to get my car cleaned
-have regular hair cuts, manicures, brow threading and tinting
-be able to go to the dog swimming pool weekly/monthly

Sigmama · 29/06/2023 12:10

They are all reasonable aspirations list except for the range rover

MavisMcMinty · 29/06/2023 12:11

I was “just” a nurse, but could afford a mortgage on my own in London, and to keep a car and 2 horses on my salary, in the late 1990s. And to do all my food shopping at Waitrose, the only local supermarket. Never gave these things a thought, it was normal back then. Before I retired I really believed I’d spend my retirement eating M&S Dine-In-For-Two-For-A-Tenner for £70 a week.

Now I can’t even afford to take my dogs and cats to the vet (horses all dead now thank goodness) and just have to hope whatever ails them will get better on its own. I never thought pets would become a luxury item.

AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison · 29/06/2023 12:13

In my dream dream land I have my own swimming pool and cinema room :)

Firsttimecaller · 29/06/2023 12:14

If you start with enough gin you'll forget you wanted anything else on the list. (Not encouraging you to drink to despair)

darkdeepandwithsauce · 29/06/2023 12:15

@BonnieGlasses Money is stopping me.
@Sigmama yep, the RR is a no-go and probably always will be 😭
@AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison I also want my car cleaned. I want someone to come to my house to do it. Someone in my road has this done. I asked for a quote - £45 !!! For £15 I can get the outside washed at the local hand car wash while I wait. I only ever do this when I am feeling a but flushed (which is rare these days)
@martha4clark I think I am going to try to buy a bottle of gin a month. I like the flavoured Gordons. I don't want the Aldi brands (nothing wrong with them, just personal choice).

WhimHoff · 29/06/2023 12:16

M&S is crap for weekly shopping, their meat is rubbish. Good for picnics though.

Gerrataere · 29/06/2023 12:16

Oh god my list is endless.

I want a reliable Gardner who doesn’t cost the earth.

Housekeeper whose main job is laundry and hoovering. I don’t mine cleaning but those jobs drive me to the brink.

A higher range car, preferably a VW or Audi. And a Mini just for me when the kids are at school. No car seats, no crumbs, no random stickiness.

To shop at Sainsburys all the time and not feel like I’ll have to start selling organs on the black market to do so.

For KrispyKreme to bring back lemon meringue donuts that I can inhale on a daily bases.

A house with a dining room.

Actually one further - a lottery win so I can buy a gorgeous semi nearby that I’ve totally fallen in love with, gorgeous character with room for improvement 😍. I don’t need millions, 500k would do just fine 🤣.

WhimHoff · 29/06/2023 12:16

£45 for a car valet? I’ve not seen them for below £125!

Wow, for £15 I can get a in and out wash and hoover at my local car wash! One good thing about living in a poorer area…

MeeThree · 29/06/2023 12:18

...what I really really want

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 29/06/2023 12:18

I want a ready made bottle of mojito.

my own heated swimming pool and someone to do the maintenance would be very welcome too.

OhComeOnFFS · 29/06/2023 12:20

Ready made mojito is horrible! Someone to buy the ingredients and make fresh mojitos on demand would be nice, though!

Verv · 29/06/2023 12:20

I want a Porsche Panamera before im 50.
And a weekly hot stone massage.

AgnesX · 29/06/2023 12:21

Me, I'd like to be fitter and have no/fewer/less severe health conditions.

After that to not get hangovers and not be affected by the long winter nights.

More about what I don't want rather than what I do want🙄

MavisMcMinty · 29/06/2023 12:23

My horse once smashed the rear passenger window of a car by leaping sideways into it as it passed - over 20 years ago. Obviously I offered to pay the owner’s excess on a new window, but the cheeky fucker pretended she’d had to have the car fully valeted and gave me a £175 “bill” that was obviously fabricated. 20 years ago! I refused to pay, and horses are considered by car insurers to be “Acts of God”, so the silly cow got nothing for her lies.

OhComeOnFFS · 29/06/2023 12:24

But if the glass shattered into the car, then valeting would be much more expensive, surely?

MavisMcMinty · 29/06/2023 12:27

I’d’ve just hoovered out the back of my car. And car valets did not cost £175 20 years ago!

yes this is a materialistic post ! Certain things in my life right now have prompted this.

The only way to get these things is to earn more - time to climb the ladder!
Honestly, a lot of those things aren't all they're cracked up to be though.

Cleaner - yeah sure, that one would be pretty good.
M&S - their meat is pretty dire, range limited and you'll find much more interesting products at Aldi / Lidl. If you want the bling factor or to impress the neighbours (who really won't care) then buy some M&S carrier bags and take them into Aldi.
Gins - the Aldi stuff is just as good as the 'premium' options in taste tests - so that's presumably to show off. Again, no one really cares.
Range Rover - in both image and reliability, they're dogshit. Save yourself the aggro and the image of being a Chelsea Tractor owner by picking something more sensible.
Usually driven by footballer's wives who are too interested in their phone or touching up their makeup rather than driving!
Nails - you can afford those by following the above with all the money you'll save!

You're welcome 😁
