Is it unreasonable to think that first time buyers don't stand a chance? £100k for this???

The housing market is just nutty... https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/133923353?fbclid=IwAR0SODUwef2m54iQ-RTPEFLvJrzpx0UZtYTUn8h6UbY6IeL5JcTduRYv63c#/?channel=RES_BUY

Comments on the local online newspaper question whether that's a person in pic 7?!

I feel desperately sorry for the previous inhabitant(s) but £100k for all that clearance and renovation?! How can anyone buy houses if this is the cheapest (and only) option in the area.

So a developer could knock it down and build a couple of houses? That's a land project not a FTB house!

Menopants · 28/06/2023 07:06

Yup it’s a site not a house

Guavafish1 · 28/06/2023 07:08

Auction for land and future flats/house.

I don't think suitable for first time buyer unless a developer.

Triflenot · 28/06/2023 07:09

I don’t understand your thinking OP. That’s obviously not a first time buyers home, it’s aimed at developers.

110APiccadilly · 28/06/2023 07:11

That's not really for a first time buyer though, is it?

This is possibly more like what you'd be looking at as a FTB in the area (I looked for properties within 10 miles of Oswestry- I don't really know the area) and is only 70K https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/133886120#/?channel=RES_BUY

Oysterbabe · 28/06/2023 07:11

Seems reasonable. No one buys that house to actually live in it.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 28/06/2023 07:12

Not the point of thread but Im still looking for the person in pic 7 Confused

Me either. Confused It's clearly not for a first time buyer.

No first time buyer is purchasing a 4 bed detactched property, with 0.25 acres of land that's being sold at auction.

Lemon1111 · 28/06/2023 07:16

I think a beach hut near here went for 100k 🫤

Fizbosshoes · 28/06/2023 07:18

I'm pretty sure getting a mortgage on non standard construction is tricky, it seems like 100k for a plot of land which a ftb probably wouldn't buy....

BathoryCastle · 28/06/2023 07:21

Cheapest? Yes, because it's basically just land.
Only? No. Lots within 5 mile radius. Some areas are cheap some are not...

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 28/06/2023 07:21

But that's not a home for a first time buyer - it's a property for developers Confused

BathoryCastle · 28/06/2023 07:24

Note that there are nice 2 beds, ideal for firat time buyer for about that prices in the area so plenty to pick from

Iwantmyoldnameback · 28/06/2023 07:24

You could add an extra nought here for that and it would become either a mansion or flats. It's incredibly cheap.

veryfluffyfluff · 28/06/2023 07:25

What are you on about? 4 bedrooms is loads.

arethereanyleftatall · 28/06/2023 07:25

I cba to see where it is but where I live that's a bargain for the land. And would have been ten years ago too.

You're right that's it's difficult for ftb op atm, but your example isn't a good one.

At first glance, it looks like an elderly person with their head in their hands.

It's in Pant

BelleMarionette · 28/06/2023 07:29

That's a bargain for a development plot!

If you think that's expensive look at London. You might get a parking space for that price.

VenusStarr · 28/06/2023 07:29

Picture 7 is weird. It definitely looks like an old man sitting / slumped 😳 how bizarre.

LizS16 · 28/06/2023 07:34

I am entirely out of touch and brain cells haha, I hadn't even thought of development.

You can get lovely homes for £100k in the North. The housing market is just silly in certain places.

It’s shared ownership

That's a shared ownership house, full cost 200k.
You can buy for 100k up north, but not that particular house.

LammasEve · 28/06/2023 08:38

You know it's not compulsory to buy a house as a first time buyer? Why not buy a flat, maisonette, shared ownership?

I agree the housing market is absolutely insane but it doesn't help when everyone thinks it's their right to buy a 4 bed semi as a first home. And I say that as someone who hasn't been able to afford to move to somewhere bigger for 25 years because I'm priced out of larger property.

We struggled to sell my mum's house at a very, very affordable price - easily affordable on minimum wage - because it wasn't a 3 bed semi and even the single people who viewed wanted something 3 times the size. So I get a bit cynical about the expectations of some FTBs.
