To be disappointed I haven’t lost more weight

Start of May was just under 17 stone. I just weighed myself today and I’m 15.9. So barely a stone. I’ve gone from a size 20 to a size 16, I really thought I’d lost 2 or 3 stone.
I’ve been eating 1200 calories a day, often less, sometimes 1000. This month I’ve also been really making the effort to go for a long walk everyday, 4 or 5 miles, and I’ve started working out although I’m often too tired (I have a one year old and at the end of the day I’m just exhausted. I read for an hour then go to sleep at 8 or 9pm).
I just wonder whats the point trying so hard for so little results. Not that I’m going to stop.

So it's been about 6 to 7 weeks and you've lost over a stone. That's good going. It took a lot longer than that to put it on. Consider how much you would lose in 6 to 9 months if you continue. There are no quick fixes in weight loss.

MoggyMittens23 · 24/06/2023 19:28

Are you mad? That's amazing!!! if you lose weight too quikcly it's not good for you and there is less chance of you keeping it off. Keep going! What;s your goal weight?

whitebreadjamsandwich · 24/06/2023 19:29

A stone and 2 dress sizes is great progress in 6 odd weeks! 1200 calories is actually possibly too low for your weight - add in a 200 calorie snack and that might it make feel slightly less miserable! A 4-5 mile walk is still only 10k steps - it's going to help a lot but it will take a while to see a difference. Keep going - you are doing amazing....and keep taking measurements too

Highdaysandholidays1 · 24/06/2023 19:29

I think that's good going, I also lose weight very slowly and it's painful at the time but it gives your skin time to adjust, get into new habits and so on. I don't think expecting 2/3 stone to come off by then was realistic, you've done well, just keep it up!

Starlightstarbright2 · 24/06/2023 19:31

I voted yabu but not really the right words .

well done that is fabulous progress- just think how long you gained weight it won’t just come off quickly.

you must feel loads better.

PriOn1 · 24/06/2023 19:32

But you’ve gone from a 20 to a 16! That’s an amazing change. Until you jumped on the scales, weren’t you happy?

Don’t let the number on the scales put you off.

Seashor · 24/06/2023 19:33

Good for you. Don’t worry too much about the scales, let your dress size be your guide. I think you’ve done brilliantly. Do you feel better for loosing it?

Applesinmyhouse · 24/06/2023 19:34

Honestly I gained about 5 stone during pregnancy, I was housebound with SPD unable to walk during pregnancy and for six months after (I did see a physio but honestly there wasn’t much we could do other than wait for the relaxin hormone to leave my body). It still flares up when I walk too much but it’s bearable.

I don’t understand how you thought you would lose three stone in six weeks on around 1000 calories???

What you have achieved is great. Just keep going.

Haha I know. I’m being silly. But I thought it would be a bit more. I’m fit into my pre pregnancy jeans the other day surprisingly. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's so good that it sounds like a humble brag!

MuserDame · 24/06/2023 19:40

That's a lot! in just one month!
Wow. I've lost a 17 lbs since 1st January. I've reached another plateau so I'm going to try out a few things.

One bit of advice I'd give you is to up your calories. I upped mine to 1400 after plateau'd on 1200. And I kept losing, slowly.

1200 isn't sustainable, so give yourself somewhere to go. if you plateau on 1200 what are you going to do!?

UP your calories but keep doing the right thing.

Have you thought about doing a monk's fast (36 hours) to reset the metabolism. I find it easier than you'd think, and it keeps you insulin sensitive.

I have about 8 lbs to go, so I know it's not easy.

kegofcoffee · 24/06/2023 19:42

And here's me happy with my10lb's in 6 weeks.

Over 1 stone is amazing!

They say 1-2lb max a week is good, so almost 20lb in 6 weeks is smashing it out the park.

However I would say that 1000-1200 calories a day is waaaaay too low. You'd be better off enjoying food a bit more, being less miserable and loosing it slower but in a more maintainable way.

ChildrenOfRuin · 24/06/2023 19:42

That still averages out at a loss of around 2 lb a week, though?

So that’s a good steady weight loss. And going down 2 dress sizes is fantastic progress! Keep going!

MuserDame · 24/06/2023 19:42

Or, if you won't up your calories to 1400, up them every second day at least. I think you'd still lose weight, you'd be surprised. Try it.

Anything but. This is the fattest I’ve been in ten years! 😩

That's massive progress!!

MuserDame · 24/06/2023 19:45

ps, the exhaustion would suggest your body senses a food shortage. As an experiment, up your cals and monitor for a month.

user1471553275 · 24/06/2023 19:45

I'm almost 42 and I'm 11 months into my journey. I started at 16st 5lbs (I'm 5'7"). My change in lifestyle started as I was told I was pre-diabetic. I hit my 3st mark this week. My first stone came off in about 6 weeks, it's been slower since. But it's been the right way. I have a PT and go to the gym 4 times a week. I also started running in February and did my first 5k in May. It's not about speed. It's consistency. I track my food on MyFitnessPal and I'm on about 1800 calories a day to ensure I maintain my calorie deficit.

I know that it's frustrating but this is about a lifestyle change. I have gone from a tight/not a chance size 18 ro a very comfortable size 16. I feel amazing. I'm fitter and stronger than ever before. I'm no longer pre-diabetic. I have zero regrets but it's hard to keep going. My target is 11st 7lbs but as it's slowed down my trainer has recommended just using measurements. I took some a few months in but not at the start (which I wish I had). I've lost 3-4 inches on all parts of me. No lose skin either so far.

I've signed up for my first 10k, do Parkrun at weekends and walk 12000 steps a day. I've made better food choices throughout but I'll still have a pizza or a meal out. This has to be something I can maintain. Stick with it. Honestly it's worth it. It's not easy and I've been feeling a bit meh but I know how far I've come. I see it in the mirror. Keep going.

bellac11 · 24/06/2023 19:50

Definitely a humblebrag sorry.

Its a huge amount in a short time with clearly a visible difference in terms of dropping the dress sizes so quickly

chemistnightmare · 24/06/2023 19:51

I just wonder whats the point trying so hard for so little results.

But the result is huge Confused

I have lots a similar amount (one stone 5 ponds) and I'm still a size 22. No change at all. No visible change that is. I already feel better and I'm more able than I have been in years.

PinkiOcelot · 24/06/2023 19:52

Honestly OP you’ve done great. Well done.

Alas this isn’t my first rodeo. My weights been up and down my whole life. But this is sadly and embarrassingly the largest I’ve been for ten years. I used to be able to lose weight easily on 1800. I was a fit power lifter with good muscle tone. Pregnancy absolutely destroyed my body (the weight gain is the tip of the iceberg) and turned my muscles into what looks like bread dough. My loose skin is already reemerging.

You are doing amazing honestly, you just need to keep going. You are averaging about 2lb a week same as me and i think we will have a more realistical chance of keeping it off the more slowly it comes off. I started mid feb and it will be 18 weeks for me tomorrow and i have lost 2 and a half stone (35lbs) and feel great. I still have a couple of stone to go but i know i will get there this time. Keep going, you've got this!
