To wash ALL the holiday clothes…

Settle a lighthearted debate here…

Just returned from 2 week holiday with DH. About 85% of 2 suitcases of clothes have been worn, so we have dirty clothes mixed in with ‘clean’ clothes as there wouldn’t be enough space to have 1 clean and 1 dirty suitcase. I’ve just started loading it all into the washing machine and DH thinks I’m mad? He thinks anything unworn can be hung back up. My rationale is that as it’s all been mixing together for 24 hours or so it all smells. We have damp swimsuits and T-shirts mixing with clean stuff so in my view it all needs to be freshened up. He completely disagrees. Who IBU here?

I’d most definitely wash it all too! Hope you had a great holiday 🙂

illiterato · 24/06/2023 18:15

take it all to the laundrette. So worth it.

WhiteFire · 24/06/2023 18:15

I'm guessing there is hardly enough unnecessary washing to worry about it.

FionnulaTheCooler · 24/06/2023 18:15

YABU for not having taken bin liners to store your dirty washing in inside the cases. YANBU to rewash everything if its been in with damp swimming stuff, it will stink if you don't wash it.

Rainrainstayawaytilseptember · 24/06/2023 18:16

Next time pack a pacabag thing and keep dirty stuff in there!
Have to wash the lot this year op!

parliamoglesga · 24/06/2023 18:16

I store the dirty clothes in bags to make it a bit easier.

but in your situ I’d defo wash them all

Chickentonights · 24/06/2023 18:16

I put the wettest swimsuits in carrier bags, but it’s still all a bit musty. Everything has a slight taint of sunscreen and sand.

TheUsualChaos · 24/06/2023 18:16

If you wore most of it, I couldn't be bothered to pick out which was clean plus it probably doesn't smell fresh if it's been all mixed up anyway. Just chuck it all in the wash!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/06/2023 18:17

So if he has a better way of doing this, he can do it all surely?

MidnightInAustin · 24/06/2023 18:19

I’d wash them. Why is he even bothered if you’re doing it?

RosesAndHellebores · 24/06/2023 18:19

The one who didn't put the dirty stuff into black bin liners and seal them and the clean stuff into ordinary plastic bags is the unreasonable one.

You are both unreasonable to be arguing about it. DH wouldn't give a flying and I wouldn't discuss it.

powershowerforanhour · 24/06/2023 18:21

Sounds like he's volunteering to do all the holiday laundry (including folding and putting away).

Baneofmyexistence · 24/06/2023 18:24

I would wash it all too!

IglesiasPiggl · 24/06/2023 18:25

I usually wash everything because even if it's unworn, being transported in a suitcase with dirty stuff makes it less than fresh. I don't usually take much extra stuff though, so we're talking a few t shirts and a dress

red78hot · 24/06/2023 18:25

I always have the same issue, I try to keep stuff separated by bags, put the dirty undies and socks in carrier's and put toiletry bags between too but I do end up washing clean stuff because everything seems to have that "smell"

Chickentonights · 24/06/2023 18:26

Well he’s seen me unpacking suitcases and sorting into piles straight for the washing machine and questioned it, I think in his way he’s wondering why I’m making extra work for myself. He’s obviously happy to smell!

Measuresimposed · 24/06/2023 18:26

Wash it in case of bed bugs 😬

cocksstrideintheevening · 24/06/2023 18:27

I'd definitely wash it and I'm really lazy!

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 24/06/2023 18:29

I wash everything that's been sat in a suitcase as they're hardly the most hygienic things.

lauraisa · 24/06/2023 18:30

I always just wash it all.

Justlovedogs · 24/06/2023 18:31

Totally this Smile

Thelnebriati · 24/06/2023 18:31

If he disagrees let him go through his stuff and decide what needs washing; you just wash everything else.

Bryonny84 · 24/06/2023 18:36

Been there, done that. Wash it all and ask him to help you peg it out. Job done. In my experience husband/partner is more than happy to do it as long as they don't have to confront the washing machine. This should not be a big deal. It's a shit job but if you both help then that's it, it's done.

FictionalCharacter · 24/06/2023 18:38

No way would I hang stuff up in the wardrobe if it was smelly and damp!

doitwithlove · 24/06/2023 18:46

I always pack one or two black sacks for the dirty washing to go in.
