To knock on my neighbours door at 5.30am?

Every single morning I get woken up by next doors dog barking. Usually it’s between 6 and 7, this morning…. 5.15!
it gets out the cat flap and just barks mindlessly.
AIBU to go round there in my pjs to make sure they are wide awake too???

Ooh yes, go on, do it! I'd love to bellow over the fence a bit further up to bloody shut their dogs up at 4.30am.

Of course I haven't done it, but you do the trial run, yes? Super 🤣

PuddlesPityParty · 16/06/2023 05:52

Omggg how is it not waking them up as well 😭 I wouldn’t blame you - I’d be embarrassed letting them bark like that! Some people have no shame

user1492757084 · 16/06/2023 05:55

Yes, go and knock to inform them that their dog sounds unreasonably upset by something. Do they have a burglar?
Do it every time the dog barks before 7:00 am.

Sunmachine · 16/06/2023 05:55

They have fancy new super-insulated house so I wonder if they actually don’t hear it…. Or maybe they just don’t care Angry

It’s unacceptable. If you’re a coward like me send a note.

GoodChat · 16/06/2023 06:15

I would knock the door.

Maybe they just don't realise how much it's affecting those around them.

GnomeDePlume · 16/06/2023 06:35

If my dog was disturbing people I would far rather they told me than sat and seethed.

Mind, the dog and I have synchronised bladders so we are both up at 5am!

LakieLady · 16/06/2023 06:41

I'd ask your neighbours to lock the cat flap at night, or put the dogs in a room where they can't get to it.

When I had dogs, they had a dog flap, but after a couple of mornings when 1st dog went out early for a pee and a bark, I started locking it. I'm an early riser, so I used to go out in the garden with them for a supervised pee, and shush them if they barked. They never had unrestricted access to the garden before 8am, 9 at weekends.

If that doesn't work, start keeping a note of dates and times they're barking and report to the council.

Did you do it OP?

Sunmachine · 16/06/2023 08:11

Our neighbour's house alarm goes off regularly during the night. He apparently can't hear it. Pretty pointless having it then! We have to text to get him to switch it off! Odd he can hear his phone...

LulooLemon · 16/06/2023 08:15

Good luck OP

You have to let us know the outcome of this! Hopefully your neighbours are somewhat decent people & can be more considerate moving forward. Positive thoughts & manifestations!

We had a neighbour in university who would have parties until the early hours & then sleep all day. One of our neighbours was a PT who did online classes & live-streamed with clients so he decided to take his classes outside (when the weather was good and the pandemic was still a thing) & do his classes outside your mans window with a very loud boombox. Party neighbour was p*ssed & was really abusive (all ended up being live-streamed to this guys PT FB) & someone ended up tagging party guys mum, more of the neighbours chimed in about the parties on the comment she was tagged in 🤣 but he ended up moving out a few weeks, it was the talk of our student block for ages!

Sunmachine · 16/06/2023 08:42

Just back…. She blamed out cat! Said our cat tries to get in and her dog is just chasing him away… which is rubbish…she also said she understands how awful it is to live with noise because our son plays football in our garden! To which I said I’m happy for the council to come and decide which is unreasonable, some one playing football in the garden for half an hour at the weekend or a dog barking at 5.15 in the morning 😡and every morning!

Oh dear OP, you have an entitled dick on your hands. See if any other neighbour is prepared to make a joint complaint to the council as they tend to ignore solitary complaints nowadays. How bloody annoying

In view of her unhelpful response I would lean on her doorbell the next time it happened and ask them to stop the barking.
Is this a thing these 24/7dog flaps? My dogs go out last thing at night and then first thing in the morning.
Is there anything in her answer that it's your cats fault? She sounds like one of those people where nothings ever their fault

There's an easy solution for her then isn't there. The dog gets out of the cat flap trying to chase someone else's cat that's trying to use the cat flap. Assuming they don't have a cat themselves, how about the lock/block up the cat flap then your cat can't come in, and their dog can't get out.

If the dog then still barks because it sees your cat outside, then at least it'll wake them up not you.

Can't believe she had the cheek to compare the noise to your child playing football in the garden!

If you had one of those big super soakers, do you think you could get the dog when it's barking? Let it go back indoors soaking wet and leave footprints everywhere!

Tessasanderson · 16/06/2023 09:52

Some rather disgusting replies here, including suggesting hurting a dog.

I find it rather amazing how dismissive of someone else's issues we are here whilst supporting another strangers version of events.

The woman has given a clear indicator of why she thinks her dog is running out and causing noise and rather than look at whether this may have some substance you just said it was rubbish. Is it? Is she really so petty she is sending her dog out at 5.30am to annoy you? Could you test the theory by telling your neighbour the cat will be indoors the next couple of days to see if it is indeed this causing it. Kind of call her bluff.

She also pointed out about noise. Of course she has no grounds for your son to limit his football and i for one absolutely support any child exercising and playing in their own garden regardless. However, once again you completely missed an opportunity to discuss it and possibly get some kind of improvement in the situation. Noise has different triggers for everyone.

End of the day, its for you both to work around. It can be done reasonably of aggressively but i hope you do not even remotely consider the suggestion of trying to hurt the dog. Vile human being to suggest that

Fucking hell, you cruel bastard. You know animal cruelty is a precursor for psychopathy don’t you?

Sunnydaysareuponus · 16/06/2023 10:28

Ask the council for a diary sheet op. Keep notes for 2 weeks and they have to take action
. I do know of a couple who were forced to rehome their yappy little fucker..
The sooner you take the legal appropriate action the sooner it will stop.
