To ask you to settle this?! Dressing toddler for bed in this heat!

2.5 year old. Usually still in cot with sleeping bag. His room is the coolest in the house and is currently 27degrees. During all this good weather, the most the temp had dropped in his room overnight has been down 2degrees from what it was when he went down to bed. Today is the hottest day we’ve had so far.

Simple question really - is 27 degrees (potentially dropping to 25 overnight) warm enough to just have 2.5year old in a nappy with nothing else?

If yes, what would you dress them in?

Vest and nappy

NEmama · 13/06/2023 21:09

Yes nappy or sleeveless vest

Hugasauras · 13/06/2023 21:09

Just a nappy is fine. If he gets cold then I imagine he'll let you know!

MargotBamborough · 13/06/2023 21:09

I've just bought my two year old a super lightweight sleeping bag and he is currently in that and a short sleeved vest.

Sirzy · 13/06/2023 21:09

I always did vest over nappy mainly to help ensure the nappy stayed on!

Curtains70 · 13/06/2023 21:10

Mine is just in a nappy. Room is 29 degrees

Gdxx · 13/06/2023 21:10

Mine has a nappy and vest with his duvet cover but will just lie on top of it if he’s warm

Dacadactyl · 13/06/2023 21:10

I wouldn't have known what temperature it was in my children's rooms, never had a thermometer in there. Just play it by ear. If they're cold they'll wake up and call for you.

takealettermsjones · 13/06/2023 21:10

Mine would have been in pyjamas (short sleeved, short bottoms) and nothing else (uses toddler duvet but would kick it off)

Barleysugar86 · 13/06/2023 21:11

Mine goes to bed with just their pjs at the moment and sleeps well. I think they suggest a babygro and nappy will actually be cooler than just the nappy in heatwaves.

Cryingbutstilltrying · 13/06/2023 21:12

Vest and nappy, as just a nappy would have found it’s way adrift!
If you don’t use popper vests anymore, short pyjamas would be fine.
No covers needed.

spaggybolly · 13/06/2023 21:12

Mine is a creature of habit and insisting on full Pajamas and duvet. Despite also living in a hot country Blush

hattyhathat · 13/06/2023 21:13

T shirt and nappy

GlobetrottingPercy · 13/06/2023 21:14

Nappy with pyjama shorts over the top otherwise I don’t trust him not to pull it off! Toddler duvet was folded back on the bed but he’s covered himself up in the last hour it seems.

FlounderingFruitcake · 13/06/2023 21:16

A light duvet is better for that age I think as they can kick it off and pull it up as required. Mine has shorts and t shirt PJs on plus his duvet, currently 1 leg is under it!

Thislittlepiggy89 · 13/06/2023 21:19

Just a nappy if it was my toddler (child always ran hot though). Not sure if toddler is independent with removing clothing yet? If so they may remove a vest or T-shirt in their sleep if to hot, mine often did. I know it can feel like you have to 'dress them' but in this heat I think a nappy is just fine.

VivaVivaa · 13/06/2023 21:21

Last year at a similar age DS was just in a nappy and 0.5 tog slumbersac.

Goldbar · 13/06/2023 21:24

Mine wore a nappy and ultra thin sleeping-bag. They wouldn't go to sleep without the sleeping bag.

thaisweetchill · 13/06/2023 21:25

Just nappy. My son overheated and had a febrile convulsion in the first lockdown heatwave so would never run the risk again.

OneLittleFinger · 13/06/2023 21:26

Just a nappy here, but that's usual. She has a duvet if she needs it (and me, but I'm trying to keep away from her atm!)

FerrariLaFerrari · 13/06/2023 21:26

Mines the same age and his room is also 27 at the moment.

He's been in a bed with a duvet since 18 months so we just adjust his pj's accordingly. He's in a vest and shorts tonight and no duvet. I'll put the duvet over him before I go to bed so he doesn't get the middle of the night chills but he'll probably just kick it off!

RecklessBlackberries · 13/06/2023 21:26

Our toddler is in just a nappy tonight in similar temperatures. He was last night as well and did just fine.

Roundandnettledr · 13/06/2023 21:28

Mine is in nappy and loose t shirt, he’s got a duvet but will kick off if gets too hot

NeverThatSerious · 13/06/2023 21:28

Mine (albeit a bit younger) is in tshirt and short pyjamas and is currently sprawled half under his duvet, his room is so warm I don’t know how he can bear the duvet at all. I do worry a little that he’ll be too hot but he seems fine!

Darcy86 · 13/06/2023 21:29

Mine has been in a nappy and vest or short sleeved t-shirt, he likes to pull his duvet onto him but I've noticed he has ended up on top of it the last few nights so obviously feeling warm. I think just a nappy is fine, it's unlikely they'll get cold.
