If a few people have come to visit you on your birthday and someone has baked you a cake and gives it to you, what is the etiquette?

YABU it’s yours to eat once everyone has gone home
YANBU you ask if anyone would like a piece and cut it immediately

Is she set in her ways? I have family members that only drink and eat at set times. So if you weren't there at the correct time, you won't be offered anything.

Cake can't simply be eaten because you've brought it, you know! It's eaten after a meal or at 2.30pm.

It was a fruit cake as that’s her favourite and we were there just after 3pm. Perfect time for tea and cake I thought.
