Next week helping on DDs school trip to local mosque. What should I wear? Weather looking very hot.

Linen trousers, floaty top and take a scarf to cover your head

continentallentil · 05/06/2023 22:06

Some clothes? Just light ones

Just normal clothes - it’s not like you’d wear a micro mini or plunging cleavage on a school trip anyway

Long trousers or skirts though, and a top which covers your elbows.

I would wear a scarf over your hair and loose fitting clothing but you could email the teacher and ask them what they advise.

It’s fairly unlikely they’d expect a non Muslim woman to cover her head

Rachie1973 · 05/06/2023 22:11

Normal clothes, just cover shoulders and legs etc

BrunchMonster · 05/06/2023 22:13

they would at the mosque near me; it's in the visitor guidelines.

I haven't been for a visit yet. I don't know what kind of scarf I'd wear - my scarves are all thin narrow things you tie around your neck, not wear on your head. Or winter scarves.

But some kind of scarf would work I'm sure.

Whattodonut · 05/06/2023 22:13

Thanks. I was expecting cover legs and arms. Wasn't sure on head. Will take a scarf.

Maybe make sure you have socks, too, not just sandals if it's a hot day, as you'll probalby have to take your shoes off too, and you might prefer to wander around in socks rather than bare feet

moretea · 05/06/2023 22:19

The mosque will be happy to welcome your group to share information about their faith, but they won't expect you to cover your hair. It is respectful to dress reasonably conservatively though, in any place of worship, so I'd avoid anything revealing/tight.

thefirstmrsrochester · 05/06/2023 22:21

head-covering is required, shoes off at the door, and re what in general to wear, just be respectful that you are in a place of worship.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/06/2023 22:21

Just normal clothes is fine, but wear socks because you will have to leave your shoes in a rack. They don't expect you to cover your hair (I just accompanied DS's class last week).

Fandabedodgy · 05/06/2023 22:22

Normal school uniform

whoateallthecookies · 05/06/2023 22:23

The need for a head covering may vary - our local mosque asked the girls in a Y6 class to cover their heads (which didn't go down well with the parents...). If you've got a scarf, I'd take it; you can always keep it in your bag if it isn't needed.

No but feasibly people might be defaulting to shorts and vest tops/sleeveless tops at the mo - it's not an unreasonable question from the OP. Honestly, such a daft answer - why don't you just move on, if you can only think of something patronising to say?!

gogohmm · 05/06/2023 22:24

I always wear linen trousers, longish tunic top with 3/4 length sleeves and a floaty scarf that's quite wide though not particularly opaque. I had to attend quite a few things for work

I have always done this when on school trips to mosque as have all other staff.

scrivette · 05/06/2023 22:24

I went last week and covering hair was optional but I had a scarf with me. I would wear or bring socks too.

As she is helping that would look very odd🤣🤣
