To want to cry because of the fucking reverse beeping

I think it's a farm thing. It's been going on for the last 5 days now, including Sunday. Starts just after 7.30am and is literally constant. I mean, they must be reversing for ages then driving forward for about 20 seconds.

I can't actually complain as I don't want to fall out with the farmer but I've got a broken arm and what I suspect is covid and feel like shite . I'm trying to read but the beep is driving me mental.

OK it's 9 seconds of beeping followed by 7 seconds of quiet. All. Fucking. Day.

You're ill - you are allowed to be grumpy and that does sound really irritating! Do you know what they are actually doing? Are they harvesting/packing/transporting something specific? From your description this sounds like a new thing.

wombat1a · 31/05/2023 15:04

It's silage season, they bring the cut grass into a clamp and then they have to roll, roll and roll it until all the air is squeezed out.

Hopefully 1st cut will be over soon and you'll have a 3-4 week break before 2nd cut starts.

I would imagine it's something farmy! It's new, yes.

Noise cancelling earphones/headphones.

There are sleep ones like a headband too.

I think they've done first cur on some fields.

Actually that's a good idea. I've got some somewhere I think dd has nicked them

Are you able to ask them what it is? Sometimes just knowing what they're doing (and how long for) is enough to take the edge of the annoyance.

Lockheart · 31/05/2023 15:06

Can't you just move to a different room and / or put the TV on or headphones?

Or go round and ask if there's any way the beeping can be turned off.

FlibbedyFlobbedyFloo · 31/05/2023 15:06

I'm sorry, that sounds grim.

I was just thinking how annoying it is that everything beeps these days. Our car has dozen of different beeps - I never know what it wants. Our washing machine beeps, our dryer beeps, our dishwasher beeps. Now, one of our neighbours has bought something that beeps so loudly that I think it's in our house. Oh, and our neighbour who comes and goes all day has a new car that beeps... It drives me nuts!

Play white noise if you don't want music. Or audiobooks/standup comedy to cheer you up.

Different room makes no difference. I have shut all the windows which is a shame as its a lovely sunny day. Can't sit outside.

Can't go round and complain as the farmer basically runs things around here (and he's nice and I don't want to be a dick).

Well I'd have to walk over there and I don't feel like it (broken arm etc). Also they'll just be snotty about it. Can't believe I'd be the first to complain though as have a very, erm, assertive aging population in the village

You don't have to complain, just explain you're unwell and ask if it's possible to turn off the beeping. There may be a simple solution. If not then that's unfortunate but you won't know until you ask.

Fizzytea · 31/05/2023 15:16

Same here in London. Even with earplugs, I'm woken in the early hours by reversing vehicles beeping loudly and announcing themselves at full blast. Sleep deprivation driving me crazy. :(

MzHz · 31/05/2023 15:16

Any repetitive sound eventually gets on your wick.

cuckoos. A couple of weeks ago I was like “ah a cuckoo, how wonderful”

now its “ffs mate, give it a rest!”

this beeping would be even worse!

hope you get better soon, hope you find the earphones!

Newjobtorment · 31/05/2023 15:18

That's so frustrating, noise can be such an irritant. I feel for you and completely understand your pain! My neighbour is having roof repairs and the noise is driving me crazy. Sorry it's no help but you're not alone.

QuintanaRoo · 31/05/2023 15:20

Do you live right next to the farmyard? Is it your first year in this house?

Not right next to it, no. But the noise is carrying across the village
Been her 20 years! Obviously a new piece of equipment

I'm going to ask neighbours if it bothers them at all although one of them is deaf! Bliss!

Definitely find / buy the headphones. Or use ordinary ones to listen to or watch something you like - music, podcast, audio book, film - to shift your attention from it.

AlfietheSchnauzer · 31/05/2023 15:32

Try living in a new build that was one of the first to be built! That beeping was in stereo from 7:30am to 6pm 6 days per week, for 3 years!

QuintanaRoo · 31/05/2023 15:33

I get they probably need the beeping for safety reasons but maybe it has a volume control? They might be able to turn it down a bit?

Totally agree. Constant noise pollution.

Wait, like a headband? How did I not know this! I have brilliant ones from Bose that really work, but I can only wear them every few days as they make my ears so sore from the hard plastic. Where does
one get these handband ones from please? I need these!

TeenLifeMum · 31/05/2023 16:38

We have a farm opposite behind the trees so can’t see but I cannot understand how or why they need to reverse so much. We get it at 3am. Who needs to reverse for an hour at 3am? The farm opposite apparently. I find it baffling but when ill it pisses me off.
