To want to cry because of the fucking reverse beeping

I think it's a farm thing. It's been going on for the last 5 days now, including Sunday. Starts just after 7.30am and is literally constant. I mean, they must be reversing for ages then driving forward for about 20 seconds.

I can't actually complain as I don't want to fall out with the farmer but I've got a broken arm and what I suspect is covid and feel like shite . I'm trying to read but the beep is driving me mental.

OK it's 9 seconds of beeping followed by 7 seconds of quiet. All. Fucking. Day.

@FlibbedyFlobbedyFloo i deliberately chose a dishwasher that has a light it shines on the floor that goes off when it’s finished. I don’t need it to beep at me!

Wait, like a headband? How did I not know this! I have brilliant ones from Bose that really work, but I can only wear them every few days as they make my ears so sore from the hard plastic. Where does
one get these handband ones from please? I need these!

I have found my noise cancelling headphones.

Currently listening to choral evensong and it's marvellous. Sweaty ears though.

I find lorries announcing they're turning left at 5am just as annoying. When did they decide that was a good idea?.

I've worked in agriculture and construction, and I live in dairy farming country. I really sympathise!

Heavy wagons/plant has had to have reversing bleepers by law since the mid 1980s! They have cut deaths and accidents involving reversing vehicles massively. From something like 70% of construction/agriculture deaths to 25%. Still too many though. There is a required decibel limit, and it can't be turned down.

Manouvering big vehicles can require a lot more moves than a road car would need. Farming is busy at this time of year too, and all the farmers round me are making the most of this spell of warm, dry weather. Give them a chance to do their jobs!

If it's really bad, many local authorities have a nighttime noise reporting line. Whether the noise of essential industry would be considered enforceable nuisance, rather than say pub gardens having a BBQ party, I don't know.

And yes to noise cancelling headphones!

I'm sure they must get so used to it it serves no purpose whatsoever!

Thank you @ThatFraggle !

I sympathise, I live near two farms, an industrial estate and a haulage yard, and there are hundreds of houses being built here on several new estates. All I can hear in the garden is "beep beep beep beep"
