You can neither taste nor appreciate the chocolate chip due to its coldness and it doesn't get the chance to melt, or change state at all in fact. Therefore, pointless.

yup

Oneearringlost · 30/05/2023 19:18

Yes! Not dissimilar to eating chocolate out of the fridge.

Worldgonecrazy · 30/05/2023 19:18

Go to Dorset. Find Baboo Gelato. Try their Peanut Choc.

Then come back to the thread and tell me you still think the same.

Blondey2023 · 30/05/2023 19:19

I concur

Rockbird · 30/05/2023 19:24

Absolutely yes. I love mint ice cream. I do not love mint choc chip. I don't want the choc chips. I start off eating them and by the end of the bowl I'm spitting them out. Can't bear them!

GwinCoch · 30/05/2023 19:27

YANBU - I’m convinced that standard chocolate chips are made of plastic. If you’re ever in Pembrokeshire go to Pointz Castle for ice cream. You will die happy. Nothing else will ever matter again. The world will melt into loveliness.

DilemmaDelilah · 30/05/2023 20:30

I completely agree. Chocolate ripple is so much nicer! Why don't they do that any more?

downtowndavinia · 30/05/2023 20:33

I wish you hadn't posted that thought. I hadn't thought of them as like this but you are absolutely right. Ice-cream with choc chips will never taste the same

cardibach · 30/05/2023 20:35

If it’s decent chocolate and you don’t wolf it down it melts in your mouth.

Willweeverfindout · 30/05/2023 21:30

Go to lidl. But their (not fancy, crap looking £2.50 p/l) ice cream. Chocolate or mint choc chip. 70 per cent cocoa. It melts. It’s lush.

dudsville · 30/05/2023 21:32

You've identified the perfect description. If you would please circulate amongst ice cream sellers so that they can either capitulate or improve, you'll be doing the world a favour.

AnyFucker · 30/05/2023 21:34

Even worse when it is white choc chip 🤮

Paperlate · 30/05/2023 21:37

Chocolate should always be eaten at room temperature so I agree with you.

KohlaParasaurus · 30/05/2023 21:40

There's probably an art to making chocolate chips with a low enough melting point to stop them being flavourless waxy lumps at ice cream temperature.

bellac11 · 30/05/2023 21:41

Yes. Its because chocolate chips for cooking/recipe purposes are often cheap imitation chocolate and most ice creams will use these types

Very occasionally posh ice creams use proper chocolate.

Im not keen on ice cream personally but on occasion Ive had it so I know there are good ones and not so good ones.

Allthenamesaregone123 · 30/05/2023 21:42

Yes! Very accurate description.

tourdefrance · 30/05/2023 21:43

Spot on!

Ardiaei · 30/05/2023 21:45

Yes. Stracciatella is the only way to go.

GwinCoch · 30/05/2023 21:45

At least you’re got lots of good ice cream recs on here regardless! 🍦

PurpleWisteria1 · 30/05/2023 21:47

Only true if it’s cheap ice cream / cheap chocolate used. Then it’s waxy and tasteless. Decent ice cream has real chocolate which you can taste and which melts. You just haven’t had any of the good stuff!

JMSA · 30/05/2023 21:48

Agreed!

BleakMostly · 30/05/2023 21:49

Ice cream tastes of cold, mostly. And the crayon comparison is apt.

GoFaster83 · 30/05/2023 21:49

This is one of the single best observations I've come across!

AppleKatie · 30/05/2023 21:50

Yabu I had the best mint choc chip ice cream on holiday yesterday.
I will admit to liking the texture change though!

ohsuzannah · 30/05/2023 21:54

I knew they reminded me of something! 🤔
