To be sick of loud, sweary shirtless men in beer gardens!

Hi,

Just got back from a bank holiday lunch at a local ish pub. The sun was out, which apparently means no one is safe from the beer guzzling, shouty/sweary man.

It was about 18 degrees, so hardly hot, but of course any hint of sunshine is a green light to take your top off and start shouting and get drunk.

It really pisses me off. It's like man spreading, but through sound. I couldn't hear anything dp and dc were saying and was constantly on edge that things would kick off.

It's so common now. You can't seem to go anywhere when the sun is out without these shirtless dickheads ruining things. It's the sheer volume that pisses me off the most. Why do they have to be so loud?!

Anyway, I'm just ranting really. Probably should have just stayed in our garden 🙄

Completely agree. No one needs to see their manky bodies.

ExhaustedAlready · 29/05/2023 16:44

"It's so common now"
It's nothing new is it? I remember my parents taking me to beer gardens 30 years ago and it was the same then.

Men will be men 🙄

x2boys · 29/05/2023 16:46

Really ?
don't they have a dress code where people have to remain dressed ?

Izzabird · 29/05/2023 16:46

Get a tshirt that says PUT THE NIPPLES AWAY, LADS?

In fairness, a topless bloke in the queue at the icecream van in the park gave me a guided tour of all his slightly sunburnt Padre Pio tattoos the other day. Which was novel.

I live in a very busy touristy town-at least 10+ pubs an easy walk away.

There are some I love where that behaviour would not be tolerated and some I avoid like the plague.

Find a better pub!

Throwncrumbs · 29/05/2023 16:47

You need to stop going to Wetherspoons and go to a pub that has a dress code, that’s a bit more upmarket!

bibbityboppityboo · 29/05/2023 16:48

Can you go somewhere a bit nicer maybe? All of our locals wouldn't allow that and I've never seen a topless man in any of the beer gardens I've been in!

Is it specific to that pub or location?!

Crayfishforyou · 29/05/2023 16:49

yanbu, but, find a better pub.

@ExhaustedAlready nothing new, no, but I do think it's worse now. It used to be that you'd avoid certain places, but now it just seems to be the case everywhere.

Not usual in the places I go!

Find nicer places to go.

MovingHoodie · 29/05/2023 16:53

Well I was going to say it was a nice area, but was worried I'd be shot down in flames for being a snob 😬

@thebloodycatwontstopmeowing but it really is supposed to be a nice area.

Don't think there are many Wetherspoons with a beer garden and they do have dress codes. A supposedly upmarket pub near to me has had the most obnoxious, foul mouthed topless yobs in their garden this weekend, supposedly on a golfing holiday. The management did speak to them but nothing happened and their language got worse the more they had to drink and people were leaving because of them. Never seen or heard it like that in that pub before.

Stratocumulus · 29/05/2023 17:01

Going off piste a bit here…

Went out for an expensive Sunday lunch yesterday. Just us two. Decent place, good menu, very busy. Good service. £75+ for two courses, one pudding. 2 wines. A rare treat.

Nearly all the men in our section were in shorts, flip flops, and tee shirts. Women likewise. Awful piggy table manners.

After lunch most diners processed to the beautiful garden where the noisy banter drowned out a quiet conversation over a drink or coffee in the sun.

Are there any places these days with a “dress code?” Do the establishments think “all money is the same colour?”

I’m at a loss but can see both sides. Just get fed up with making an effort to dress what I think is appropriate only to be dismayed when the “Beach Boys and girls” walk in.

Must be getting old!!

Even worse are the ones that have small children in tow. Parents getting arseholed while kids running around unsupervised

Mylifeislikeaboatrace · 29/05/2023 17:19

You should know that a degree or two of warm weather brings out the scum classes.
No random man, I don't want to see your beer belly hanging over your shorts or have to listen to your stupid fog horn voice that has to use a swear word every sentence. As for screechy women....
I live at a lovely holiday destination and whilst it's great to have visitors coming over, it's better still when the scummy 10% fuck off home.

nutbrownhare15 · 29/05/2023 17:19

Just been to lunch at a nice pub. No topless men. I'd also suggest trying a different one, maybe one in the country?

EverythingsCominUpMilhouse · 29/05/2023 17:19

YANBU, it's extremely off-putting.

Also, it's never the hot guys with their tops off. Always the men that sport a full term pregnancy beer belly.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/05/2023 17:21

When I used to work at a gp men would come in topless in the summer.Cheers for the view of your sweaty nips.
