To be sick of loud, sweary shirtless men in beer gardens!

Hi,

Just got back from a bank holiday lunch at a local ish pub. The sun was out, which apparently means no one is safe from the beer guzzling, shouty/sweary man.

It was about 18 degrees, so hardly hot, but of course any hint of sunshine is a green light to take your top off and start shouting and get drunk.

It really pisses me off. It's like man spreading, but through sound. I couldn't hear anything dp and dc were saying and was constantly on edge that things would kick off.

It's so common now. You can't seem to go anywhere when the sun is out without these shirtless dickheads ruining things. It's the sheer volume that pisses me off the most. Why do they have to be so loud?!

Anyway, I'm just ranting really. Probably should have just stayed in our garden 🙄

every they think they are all sex gods that's why they do it imo.

Can you go somewhere a bit nicer maybe? All of our locals wouldn't allow that and I've never seen a topless man in any of the beer gardens I've been in!

Is it specific to that pub or location?!

Yes this!!

Our local Greene Kings get a bit like this but all the non chain pubs are fine. Actually thinking about it spoons is always ok too even though it has the biggest beer garden in the town!

midsomermurderess · 29/05/2023 17:31

It’s Taps-Aff weather. Grin and bear it or find a more douce venue.

LittleFreakJezebel · 29/05/2023 17:34

Also off topic but I've never been to a spoons without a beer garden? Even the inner city ones all seem to squeeze a little one in somewhere round the back.

quoteoutofcontext · 29/05/2023 17:41

We purposely drove a little further from home today for pub lunch in a beer garden a bit awkward from public transport for exactly this reason. Normally the Wetherspoons a 5 min walk from home is ideal for a cheap pub lunch with the kids but not today in a seaside town on a bank holiday with the sunniest day of the year so far. You need to choose more wisely. There will be places without this.

SwedishEdith · 29/05/2023 17:46

This is why I hate summer.

Summerpetal · 29/05/2023 17:51

Bizarre how they even get a woman ..all Leary and thinking they are gods gift to us all …yuk …yeah puts me off a pub completely

TheBucketWoman · 29/05/2023 17:57

It's so common now.

Extremely common.

RightOnTheEdge · 29/05/2023 17:59

It's actually not allowed in Spoons and anyone topless wouldn't get served and would be asked to put a top on where I work.

BiggerBoat1 · 29/05/2023 18:01

Go to better pubs. I don't think I've ever seen this in a pub garden.

JorisBonson · 29/05/2023 18:02

I've just been to a shitty pub in a shit area and saw no nipples 🤷🏻‍♀️

Alwayswonderedwhy · 29/05/2023 18:04

I think you're going to the wrong pubs.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 29/05/2023 18:06

Well you get a large number of topless men but you also get a large number of women in crop tops and shorts that really aren't shorts but more like knickers often with a belly hanging over the top of them, neither is particularly pleasant to look at but you would get slaughtered for complaining about what the woman was wearing. Would it make any difference if the bloke was wearing a vest?

isthismylifenow · 29/05/2023 18:07

I have to say this was one of the strangest sights that stayed with me as a visitor to the UK in the summer.

I totally get having a BBQ next to a pool or beach or that sort out thing. Of course, get some sun on the body when it's appropriate. But men were walking in town / at the market etc with no shirts on. I even remember someone being asked to put on their shirt to enter a shop. Why would someone even think it's ok to go into a shop top naked.

And this was years ago so clearly it's not changed much since.

Pottedpalm · 29/05/2023 18:09

Move to a smarter area/find a better pub. No one allowed in topless round here.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 29/05/2023 18:10

How about this?

GinBlossom94 · 29/05/2023 18:13

"Manky bodies"? I guess all bodies are summer bodies only applies to women then?

Anyway, yes loud drunk people are annoying, but life is for living, it's clearly not the pub for you

ILikePizzas · 29/05/2023 18:19

I think I see far fewer shirtless men than I did in the 80s.

I wonder if more men are more body conscious and/or respectful than then?

Inthebathagain · 29/05/2023 18:21

Beer garden I was in with DP yesterday had a woman with a massive cleavage on show and most of her side tits.

DP changed sides of the table so his eyes stopped being drawn to the display. My eyes kept being drawn to them too, but it was more acceptable for me as a female to accidentally keep staring at her boobs.

She was part of a loud table of girls who rivaled beery groups of lads.

Excess skin out in general in the summer turns my stomach.

Ringmaster27 · 29/05/2023 18:22

I work in a pub…and it’s not know to be the most sophisticated of establishments to put it mildly. And I’m dreading the summer for this exact reason.

FigTreeInEurope · 29/05/2023 18:24

I'm in Italy, and I got told off for being without a shirt at the council tip the other day! I wouldn't dream of going to a bar or restaurant without a shirt. Strictly in the garden, and on the beach. Seems fair enough.

OrbandSpectacle · 29/05/2023 18:30

sweeneytoddsrazor · 29/05/2023 18:10

How about this?

Wearing a vest like that will result in an interesting tan!😆

LakieLady · 29/05/2023 18:33

I've never seen a topless bloke in any of the pubs/pub gardens where I live. Either they don't allow it, or it's something the locals don't go in for, which is possible in a town full of Guardian-reading wokerati.*

I don't give a fuck about the swearing though. It's nothing you don't hear on tv.

*of which I am a fully paid-up member

MinxieMax · 29/05/2023 18:36

There is none of that where I go. None I tell you, that's because I'm retired now and drinks in a pub garden is confined to term time and NEVER on a weekend or Bank Holiday. I have no idea what goes on when I'm not there.

Smug git.
