To ask for a MN hug...my pony was PTS this morning

My darling pony who was 28 years old had to be PTS this morning. Sadly he had colic which had caused a displaced colon. The only possible option would have been surgery costing thousands and thousands which he would have been unlikely to survive given his age, and I couldn't bear for him to suffer.

I had him over 10 years, and my DD11 literally grew up with him.

It was very peaceful, but we're all devastated and I don't know how to face going to the yard tomorrow and seeing an empty stable and unused head collar hanging outside 😭😭

Take some time to grieve, don't push yourself to do anything too quickly either.

I’m so sorry. I lost my horse a few weeks ago in a freak field accident and it’s so hard.

Colic is a real bastard, it doesn't make any discrimination old , young , fit or fat .

Massive hugs from me. I lost my beautiful girl in similar circumstances about 20 years ago. Try to remember all the good times. I often regale my children with lovely tales about her now, and I’m lucky I live not far from where we kept her so always have a smile driving past a familiar hacking route and remembering all the fab times we had together. Xxx

I'm so sorry! I understand how awful it is. Had to do the same with my Quarter horse when she broke her leg. Gut wrenching. 💐

Thanks so much guys. It really helps. He just wasn't him this morning - which I guess made the decision easier in a way.

It is sad that your pony didn't make it into adulthood to become a horse. At what age do they do that, btw? 28 sounds quite old for a horse let alone a pony.

I'm so sorry. I had to make the same decision 18 years ago; it's not easy, is it. He looked a fine boy!
