To ask for a MN hug...my pony was PTS this morning

My darling pony who was 28 years old had to be PTS this morning. Sadly he had colic which had caused a displaced colon. The only possible option would have been surgery costing thousands and thousands which he would have been unlikely to survive given his age, and I couldn't bear for him to suffer.

I had him over 10 years, and my DD11 literally grew up with him.

It was very peaceful, but we're all devastated and I don't know how to face going to the yard tomorrow and seeing an empty stable and unused head collar hanging outside 😭😭

That's a great photo. He knew exactly what he was doing. I know it was awful but you had the privilege of ensuring he had no more pain. It sounds like he always did his job well for you, you did the same for him. This morning will feel absolutely bloody awful but it will get better from here.

So sorry for your loss , he was gorgeous 😍 take comfort in the fact you gave him a good life and you were bravein making the right call in the end.

Ponies and horses are different, it's not an age thing. It's down to size I think, if they're under 14.2hh they're a pony, if over, they're a horse. 28 is a good old age, he clearly had a lovely life.
