He's groomed a much younger man. Some people, homophobically, equate that behaviour with being gay. I'm not surprised some high profile gays are distancing themselves.

I wanted to highlight the fact that some of Phils biggest critics are gay men because a lot of the confusion and distraction is around people debating immorality with criminality.

People are saying "So what", "You wouldn't say this about a man grooming a girl, is it because he's gay?" and this shuts down conversation as people are afraid of saying the wrong thing and being labled homophobic.

The relevance of gay men calling Phil out is to show that it isn't a gay issue, the issue is with Phil grooming and it is not part of gay culture.

Secondly, most people don’t tend to support much older men befriending a child, creating an imbalance of power and then forming a relationship at 18. The title is clumsy and suggests gay men may support this it’s a bit homophobic. Judging by MN - it’s middle class and middle aged women who support it because he’s “brave.”

Ive heard this from my Dd who has a lot of gay friends. When they were at university she was very shocked by what she witnessed in some clubs.

I've read lots of posts on this issue. I don't think I've seen any saying that the condemnation of PS is due to homophobia. The basic premise of the op seems thin, to say the least.

I imagine gay men are just as likely to condemn what happened as anyone else.

But so many gay men seem to be in this situation - much younger man/ teenager with a much older partner. You see it time and time again.

It’s extra annoying because remember he came out when he was starting to get in trouble. Like Kevin spacey you know. They do dodgy things then go ‘I’m gay so it’s ok poor me’. Like a front if you know what I mean. That was so badly explained 😂

You also see similar heterosexual relationships. The issue is that PS used his celebrity position to impress, groom and take advantage of a very young teenager, people feel the same if older men groom and take advantage of their position re very young female teenagers, see Weinstein, Epstein, Prince Andrew et al.

Maybe some of the gay men you have mentioned have been abused or groomed or used in the same way that Matthew McGreavy was by Schofe, and so this story resonates with them. Just a thought.

Of course gay men are condemning him. They know that if they don’t they will - completely unfairly - be tarred with the same brush.

Just wait until the next time a gay man lands a high profile media gig. “Look what happened with Phillip Schofield, they’re all paedos” will be the first cry of the protesting homophobes.
