AIBU to ask for your help to spoil bf's surprise?

Binningtonianrose · 26/05/2023 12:16

Hi, first world problem I need help with please.
Bf is taking me away and has a two day 'surprise' for me, in Cholet, France.
He says I 'll love it, but that I ll be on my feet all day.
Last surprise he did for me was a disaster. I had to guess what to wear and it was super awkward and freezing, and lasted hours.

Do any AIBU sleuths know of a two day event next weekend in Cholet? I'll feign surprise as necessary. I just can't end up wearing high heels and a girlie dress at a freezing muddy rock concert again 😂

Why don't you ask him for more information?

ladydimitrescu · 26/05/2023 12:20

We don't know what your interests are so hard to look, have a Google?

Binningtonianrose · 26/05/2023 12:28

I've tried all these already, which is why I'm appealing to the Mumsnet Hive Mind for help

Just ask him what you should wear?

Or to tell you exactly what it is as you don't want a surprise

He's already told you you'll be on your feet all day so wear trainers

🤷‍♀️

Lcb123 · 26/05/2023 12:41

just ask him for specifics and / or show him your choice so he can advise if it's OK. i'd hate this!

username98765 · 26/05/2023 12:43

Just ask what you need to pack!

TheOrigRights · 26/05/2023 12:43

Has he reassured you that he's take on board why his last surprise was a disaster and taken measures to ensure this one isn't?

CovetedAsFuck · 26/05/2023 12:45

Surprises are the fucking worst. LTB

innerspace · 26/05/2023 12:45

So just tell him you don’t like surprises, and you won’t go unless he tells you. I’d hate that.

MinnieGirl · 26/05/2023 12:46

I would refuse to go. I hate surprises. I need to know where I’m going, what is happening and what to pack etc.
I would say that you appreciate he’s gone to some trouble but you really stress over surprises so can he please tell you exactly what’s happening.
Why do people do this?

Cas112 · 26/05/2023 12:53

Ask him for the dress code

Simple

MessyRaptor · 26/05/2023 12:53

Cholut seems an odd location for a surprise - there's not much there!

It's not that far from Puy du Fou - do you like medieval theme parks?

Binningtonianrose · 26/05/2023 12:59

Oh I would LOVE a medieval theme park for sure

MessyRaptor · 26/05/2023 13:11

Hopefully it's that, and you have a better time than the last surprrise.

lovemelongtime · 26/05/2023 13:18

Surely it's not that hard to ask him what to pack and wear , remind him of last time?

BlackAzalea · 26/05/2023 13:20

I hope he's told you what it is, otherwise look on anjou-tourisme.com/cholet, there seems to be quite a few things going on

Allschoolsareartschools · 26/05/2023 13:36

I had a brilliant surprise weekend once BUT the one thing I insisted on was knowing the dress code, including footwear!

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 26/05/2023 13:38

Surely the dress code won't completely give it away so just ask him.

PurpleParrots · 26/05/2023 13:48

Why can’t you ask him what clothes/shoes you should pack for the surprise. Random strangers on the internet won’t have the foggiest idea of what he’s planned or what you should wear

saltinesandcoffeecups · 26/05/2023 13:58

I’m with the others… just ask what to pack. Mine will surprise me with events or weekends but he always knows to tell me. Pack stuff for lots of walking and one dressy outfit.

you know where you are going so should have an idea of the weather. So bring a few different options and the on the day if he still hasn’t told you. Lay out the ‘walking’ at an event outfit, the cute lunching outfit, the hiking in the terrain outfit and tell him to pick out the most appropriate for the activity. (Make sure you explain the difference in clothes and shoes.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 26/05/2023 14:46

Tell him you also have a surprise for him and then when it's time to leave just go out for the day without telling him. Problem solved.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 26/05/2023 14:54

I’ve had a look at the mayors office, the tourist office and the regional tourist office and I can’t see anything much in Cholet ( unless you are interested in children access to the internet, which is going on all month).

Cholet is a bit meh, I went there a few years ago to see the ITT in the TDF but I wasn’t panting to go back. Let’s hope for the theme park, the French are pretty good at spectacles .

Isheabastard · 26/05/2023 15:19

I’m another one who thinks it could be Puy du Fou.
