Pathological aversion to white trousers. Am I wrong?

Maybe this is more of a Style and Beauty question, but it runs so deep with me, it's almost irrational.

I have long hated the idea of wearing white trousers! I have no problem with them for cricketers, or white jodphurs for riders, but the whole white summer trouser thing makes me quite nauseous.

Perhaps it goes back to worry as a kid that a period might leak and show an embarassing mark? I think they used to advertise sanitary products using women in white trousers, so maybe that's it?

Is it just me who shudders at the thought of white trousers? Am I unreasonable?

Love them on others.

Not for me as I'd inevitably drop curry or red wine on them 😳

Actually, I have a fabulous pair of Versace white jeans in the loft from circa 2003. Wouldn't get them past my knees nowadays 😭

CharlotteStreetW1 · 18/05/2023 19:09

I'm not slim and I think they look okay on me but this thread has made me realise I haven't seen any of my three pairs since last summer... 🤨

EarringsandLipstick · 18/05/2023 19:20

I love white trousers, blazers, t-shirts (not all at once 😂)

I think they brighten up my appearance, say 'summer', can be worn with so many other colours / styles & look smart.

Currently have skinny white M&S jeans for work, wearing with strappy heels, chunky sandals, variety of blazers including taupe, accessorised with chunky, bright jewellery. Feel great in them.

I don't find they get grubby, and I don't tend to drop food / drinks. They obviously need a bit more washing but only by a factor of one less wear

YANBU not to like them yourself tho OP!

ALongHardWinter · 18/05/2023 19:24

Totally with you on this OP. I've noticed that there seems to be a bit of an obsession with women wearing white trousers in TV adverts lately. What's that all about?!

IglesiasPiggl · 18/05/2023 19:26

I wear white trousers and skirts in summer, I really like the crisp look of them. You do need to be more careful when you wear them though, so I wouldn't wear them if I was taking public transport that day, for example. It didn't suit my lifestyle when my DC were small, but now I no longer chase after little ones, or am required to play football, it's do - able. We don't have any pets though.

I’m terrible with a white vest or t-shirt, I put it on at last minute before I go out and still manage to get something on it within 5 mins of being out whether it be a squashed fly or a bit it lipgloss 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a lovely white linen shirt which I like to wear to work in the summer, but I always drink a travel cup of coffee on the drive to work and I ALWAYS slop some when I’m wearing a white shirt. Not if I’m in black, of course.

Wenfy · 18/05/2023 19:43

I’ve never found ones in a thick enough material to not show skin colour / celulite. Even jeans do.

TallTrees78 · 18/05/2023 19:56

I had a pair of cream linen trousers that I loved. Was at an event one day and, when I went to the toilet after several hours of sitting down, saw that I'd very suddenly started a heavy period early. There was quite a lot of staining and I was absolutely mortified. I had a cardigan with me so tied that around my waist and went home. Will never ever risk wearing cream or white trousers again after that.

WellTidy · 18/05/2023 20:36

I bought some white jeans s after losing weight last year and finally feeling confident in them. They were the best thing I bought all summer as I wore them with all my t-shirts. I do t know if the fit helped - they were straight leg and I wore them casually with flat sandals and a belt.

or maybe I’m just reliving the early 2000s ….

Doyouthinktheyknow · 18/05/2023 20:45

I cannot keep clean so white trousers are an absolute no for me!

I don’t have periods anymore so it’s not that specifically, its just general grubbiness.

Love a White t shirt though😍

Tangled123 · 18/05/2023 20:51

I think they can look really smart and dressy on other people, but I’m not brave enough to wear them. I can’t even keep light blue jeans clean, never mind white ones.

WandaWonder · 18/05/2023 20:58

I don't like them but just don't wear them, I can't say it bothers me though

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 18/05/2023 21:06

It's absolutely never occurred to me to wear such a thing, but then I generally live in black, green or navy. White anything is far too high-maintenance for me. I don't even have any white underwear.

escapingthecity · 18/05/2023 22:20

There's no way I could keep them clean

Berlinlover · 18/05/2023 22:25

I have fibroids so white trousers are out of the question.

BlueKaftan · 19/05/2023 03:48

I love being a middle aged woman wearing white jeans. And not giving a fuck what anyone thinks.

LadyMargaretDevereux · 19/05/2023 04:38

This has reminded me to get my cream jeans out.

fajitaaa · 19/05/2023 06:17

It's just a bit eurovision

GreenwichOrTwicks · 19/05/2023 06:21

Where I live there are so many dogs with pathetic owners that let them come bounding up putting muddy paws on people so not practical.

beachwhirly · 19/05/2023 08:21

I'm with you for the reasons you state but also because they're awful!
